Amb. Whitman has gone way overboard in her zeal. Teaching us how to perceive our own political dilemma is beyond her pay grade. It would be better to keep off that role of a self-appointed moral and political arbiter. There is something about diplomacy:- one must strive to be understated, to be nuanced, above everything else. She is saying the quiet part out loud and probably doing damage even to her own country in these circumstances.

Being gung-ho and in-your-face the way Meg Whitman carries herself around in Kenya, is the very epitome of coercion, or lack of manners (in polite society). She can support Ruto all she wants, in her personal capacity, or as an envoy, but the way she does it matters.
The speech in Eldoret can easily be understood to mean giving the just commenced national dialogue the middle finger, by falsely encouraging Ruto to believe that his political position is unassailable, because he has tacit and overt American support.
But, Ruto should savor this political succor from Meg Whitman with extreme care, because while that support may look impregnable in TV talk rooms and discussion fora like this, in a rapidly deteriorating political situation in the near future, it won't count for much, and may even prove to be a costly liability.
That support is perceptional, so overstretching it to mean that Ruto can do anything he pleases, because Americans support him, is probably the wrong interpretation of it. But knowing Ruto and Gachagua, their only available interpretation is that they have a Carte blanch to do as they please.
The Kenyan people, to them, are but a background issue taken for granted. And therein, lies their fatal miscalculation.
When people say; Ruto open the servers...
When people say:- "Ruto, open the servers, they don't mean that he is the one literally hiding the servers somewhere and refusing access. What is meant is that he has influence over the so-called "Independent" body IEBC, and also, he is one of the parties in the contested server matter, opposed to an audit. And, contrary to the other side, he is doing all he can to pretend there is nothing to see here, which is a mind-boggling sign of dishonesty.
It takes both sides to want that final clarity and then involve the IEBC, through whichever appropriate legal route. By opposing even a discussion, is a clear sign of impropriety and intention to sweep everything under the rug, because it's inconvenient.
The pedestrian arguments, like the ones UDA sycophants have been peddling, simply can't fly, because at their very core, they are mendacious and they seek to take everybody for abject fools.
The following statements, for example, (which we hear every so often), are meaningless gibberish meant for low-information fools:-
"I don't own servers!; what are servers, anyway?; servers were already opened in Bomas last year, where were you then?; Elections are over and we are concerned with delivering on our mandate rather than servers, so don't disturb us!"
How will having a full impartial audit disturb the current President?
And for your information, the word "independent", with reference to the IEBC and other bodies, doesn't mean "unresponsive" and not answerable to anybody; or a thing unto itself, which does whatsoever, howsoever and whenever it wants.
Just to remind you, the IEBC is bound by applicable and current statutes to conduct a full and complete audit after every election as a matter of law and routine.
At the burial of Brian Muendo, 18, (in Makueni county on 15th August) a victim of police brutality during July anti-government demonstrations , Raila revealed that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) former commissioners Irene Masit and Juliana Cherera left the country whilst greatly fearing for their lives and safety.
