While ODM drowns in victory after winning the latest two by-elections, a poignant message lost in the celebratory heat is the above-fray leadership shown by President Kibaki. He left PNU to its own devices and chose not to reduce himself to petty and partisan politicking.
True leadership from the front and by example is practiced and not preached. And Kibaki has just raised the bar to the sky. In any case after WINNING his final term in 2007, he has no political business to conduct in either Shinyalu or Bomachoge.
PNU chair Prof G. K. K. Saitoti tried his best but fell short. But there is no need cause for alarm since ODM capturing Bomachoge from PNU reverses the political equation to what it was before the former lost Embakassi to the later. Game draw and now we can concentrate on our working nation before another holiday is declared to celebrate census results.
The more things change politically the more they retrogress. Well bloggers here have been waxing patriotic demanding political lullabies in the name of solutions without first dissecting the present rot. The by-elections have provided them with more than enough as evident in the emerging destructive so-called Kalonzo-effect that has just entered out political lexicon.
One thing is for sure, you don’t WIN a presidency at all costs and disturb your peace thereafter with politically inconsequential by-elections. Kenya made the turn in December 2007 and we will never the same again. Sorry to disappoint pretenders in search of evangelism.

Mungiki the Curse of Fraudulent Leadership
The Mungiki menace couldn't have come at worse time for Kibaki. The only thing going for Mwai Kibaki since he became Kenya’s president in 2002 is serial jumps from one crisis to another. You don’t have to be superstitious to see the jinx starting from being sworn in at Uhuru Park on a wheel chair to the tumultuous 2003/4 following his trashing of the MOU. The referendum in 2005 was the icing of the crisis cake. Kibaki’s deceptive ways have made him a magnet of bad lack.
Nature truly pays handsomely and promptly in kind. You don’t sup with the devil only to turn around and disown the master of hell. The present Mungiki outrage is chicken coming home to roast. The murder of Mrs Njenga was the much-needed spark to vent anger on a deal gone sour. The poor folks cannot allow themselves to be flashed down the toilet loyally playing MACHETE men in the post election violence.
Fraud props jinxes
Nobody can trust the Kenyan police force anymore given their selective pumping of live bullets in particular sections of the country. Their penchant to execute is well documented. But your guess is as good as mine who between the police and Mungiki would rape and behead a woman. Mrs Njenga’ slaying bears all the hallmark of Mungiki’s grotesque and nefarious murderous orgies.
Calamities, jinxes and bad omen often have higher affinity to visit willing souls weaned on deception and indecision. Mungiki is no ragtag militia as Kibaki would want us to believe. The recent clandestine move by the government to recruit them into the police force is akin to sharpening the very knife whose blades will soon severe the veins of your throat. But this is Kenya where Maina Kiai can only be a hero if he keeps quiet at the sight of electoral theft.
Leaders worth their name lead from the front anf by example. Following institutionalized impunity by none other than the president himself who outrightly raped Kenyans via ELECTORAL THEFT, you cannot expect any justice from any law enforcement arm. The policemen would resort to illegal shortcuts to save themselves time and resources. One thing if for sure: the kidnapping of Mrs Njenga was too complex for ordinary thugs.
Mungiki couldn't have asked for a weighty, dependable and moneyed patronage than a whole deputy prime minister. We haven’t seen the last fangs and bloodletting from Mungiki. The monster is already mutating to maul her own. They can cool their heels through extortion when prudent and calm but remain on the ready to be called to political duty when necessary. It is called scratch my back and I scratch yours. Today’s extra-judicial killing must be the collateral damage in this evil scheme of Kenyan politics.

Lean, Clean Cabinet or Mirage?
So it had to take both US and UK to impress upon Kibaki and Raila to retreat one-to-one to agree on forming a cabinet? Well, these are the same powers bloggers here and politicians selective accuse of neo-colonialism too. We have the initiative of one Michael Rannenberger (late 'saviour' Smith Hempstone reincarnated?) to thank if Kibaki allows the present deal to hold.
The icing on the rumour cake is the clincher that the agreed cabinet will be as lean as 20. Well, the time-tested adage and truism WHEN THE DEAL IS TOO GOOD already comes ringing a loud. Whatever the shape of that cabinet one thing remains irrefutable. Given the amount of mistrust displayed so far would, one would be incurably optimistic and overtly generous to bet a tissue paper on a cordial and mutual working relationship between the two parties.
Well, the day is almost over and tomorrow is soon here knocking. The battered benefit of doubt is often squeezed in desperate time and Kenyans need it in abundance for the next few hours. No matter the outcome, Kenyans are in for a very ROUGH political ride. The premise is so weak to serve as a foundation of any meaningful and substantial progress. But then half a loaf is always better than none provided it is not poisonous.
The hitherto political pong Kenyan has thoroughly neutered our sense of pride jubilation. News that Kibaki and Raila have at long last agreed to constitute the overdue cabinet has left Kenyan in their traditional wait-and-see posture. The last 40 days has seen any trace of hope of Kenyans butchered at infancy. Only Kibaki’s rare commitment will determine whether today’s so-called deal will stand the test of the day (no need of more time).

The Curse of Military Rule

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda made a startling suggestion in prescribing military rule for Kenya. Even journalists covering him were left with their jaws agape wondering what a heap of poison the ‘youthful’ Kagame was prescribing to Kenyans.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The era of military rule midwifing democracy from a political fallout or dictatorship belongs to the last Century. True, desperate moments calls for desperate measures but tasking the Kenya army with leadership is to unwittingly invite full blown anarchy on our shores.
Our military is a product of political manipulations. The Kenyan men (and women) in the barracks simply lack the intellectual capacity to govern. They have no minds of their own and woe unto you in the army if any trace of independence betrays your thinking. Our military officers owe their positions to their political masters. They are nothing better than political sycophants albeit in uniform.
Kenya is no Rwanda. While Rwanda has only two tribes (Hutus and Tutsis), Kenya a kaleidoscope of ethnic competition that only requires the faintest spark to explode. Both Kenyatta and Moi packed the forces with their military cheerleaders. In the last five years Kibaki has no disappointed by promptly but systematically replacing the military top brass by his henchmen and compliant soldiers.
Competing ethnic interest makes our military a very risky business to premise our country’s salvation. The barracks are not spared Kenya’s tribal tensions. Paranoia is the stock in trade in the barracks where any intellectual challenge is promptly nipped in the bud.
Kibaki’s trip to Ethiopia was singularly purposed to pass a latent message of no vulnerability to military putsch. Even if the Kalenjins and Kambas still constitute a significant proportion of foot soldiers, Kibaki is safe and at peace in the knowledge that military top guns owes him their positions.
Kagame may have meant well for Kenya and her people. But his suggestions is a POISONED CHALICE particularly for Kenya. His idea can be contrasted to our old generation suffering about of nostalgia in which they uncritically and shamelessly claim to miss colonialism. Granted, the colonialists were 'humane' and intellectual in their brutality compared to our present day indigenous colonialists.
Lethal precedent
Allowing the military to take over Kenya will set a very costly and deadly precedent. In addition to disenfranchising Kenyan voters forever, it will trash all our democratic credentials and history. And worst or it will be a perpetuation of the present day slavery to HELL-FOR-LEATHER rulership and absolutely no leadership. Two wrongs never made a right.
The lives of those Kenyans lost in the present war against ELECTORAL THEFT and DECEPTION must not be trivialized neither abused by succumbing to rule by the barrel of the gun. If in doubt just cast your eyes up north and the scenes from the streets of Djamena in Chad are not pleasant, or are they? The bottom line is power not only corrupts but it is also intoxicating.
Kenya is crying for politico-economic justice which the military CANNOT deliver. It is therefore not only suicidal but also reckless and STUPID to entrust such an audacious quest to gun wielders while still smarting from fractures and amputations from machetes. We cannot afford to engage is such an expensive and FATAL gamble.
