Raila at send off of 18 year old casualty of maandamano in Makueni unleashes revelations about Masit and Cherera

Raila roars in Makueni as governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr reveals that young man victim of maandamano had dreams of going to university and building a dream house for his mother

At the burial of Brian Muendo, 18, (in Makueni county on 15th August) a victim of police brutality during July anti-government demonstrations , Raila revealed that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) former commissioners Irene Masit and Juliana Cherera left the country whilst greatly fearing for their lives and safety.

Raila's Insight on the Electoral Controversy

Addressing the large assembly at the burial, Raila Odinga, the Azimio leader and Orange Democratic Movement party leader, revealed the severity of the post-election crisis. The situation had escalated to such an extent that two of the four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners who disputed Ruto's victory had to flee for their lives. "Juliana Cherera and Irene Masit were forced to run for their dear lives," he disclosed, shedding light on the intense power struggle that followed the controversial election.

Revisiting the Deputy President's Analogy

Fiercely countering Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's analogy, Raila argued that Kenya is not a 'company' divided amongst shareholders. He vehemently disagreed with the notion that voters who supported the current government held more 'shares' than those in opposition. "Every Kenyan citizen has an equal stake in the future of this country, regardless of their political affiliations," he asserted.

Raila also pointed to the recent recruitment exercise at the KRA (Kenya Revenue Authority) where he said a certain tribe had taken 60 per cent of the positions leaving the rest of the tribes to scramble for the remaining 40 per cent. "This is wrong as all Kenyans are paying taxes,” Raila emphasized.

Mutula Kilonzo Jnr's Call for Justice

Adding to the sentiments of the day, local Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr expressed his condolences for the family of the deceased, Brian. He called the killing of the young man, who had dreams of going to university and building a home for his mother, an unfortunate event. He appealed to those involved in negotiations to remember the aspirations of Brian, "His dream house symbolised a peaceful and loving Kenya, a vision we all share," Kilonzo Jnr emphasised.

These revelations and calls for justice underscore the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disputed election and subsequent events. As Azimio leaders continue their quest for electoral justice, these stories shed light on the human cost of political struggles and struggles for justice too.
