In controversial utterances in public, President William Ruto has accused his former boss Uhuru Kenyatta of instigating protests against his rule.
Without naming the former president specifically, Ruto accused ODM leader Raila Odinga and "his handshake brother" of instigating Kenyans and supporting "chaos and anarchy" against his government because of the country's rising cost of living.
But Ruto emphasized that his government will not be intimidated by the protests, calling them a waste of time because they do not offer a remedy for the high cost of living.
"To the brothers of the handshake, I know you well. I am aware of the funding you are providing to organize turmoil and bloodshed in order to subjugate the country. Ruto made fun of his predecessor and ODM leader Odinga, declaring, "You will not succeed.
In Kiuti County's Ciampiu, Tharaka ward, where he distributed 10,000 title deeds to locals, Ruto was giving a speech.
Because of the strategic measures he has implemented to combat youth unemployment, hunger, and poverty, he alleged that Uhuru and Raila had concocted a plot to overthrow his government.
"They have turned to financing chaos and anarchy because they know that if they give me a little time, they would never catch up, and they do this in order to keep the area impoverished. They want us to stay tied to these issues, but we will break free regardless of their feelings, he stated.
The opposition, in notably Raila and the former president, were urged by the president to refrain from attempting to topple him and allow Kenyans to assess his administration's performance.
"They tried, but they failed. They only succeeded in drowning the nation in debt, but Kenya will advance because the country is ripe and ready for change, he said.
According to Ruto, his administration will collaborate with all elected officials, including those in the opposition, to advance the development agenda.
The president praised Kitui Governor Julius Malombe for providing a sizeable budget for water projects and promised that his administration will work with the county government to increase investment in the initiatives in an effort to ensure the security of the region's supply of water.
He also responded to the governor's requests for the restoration of the Wikithuki irrigation system in Mwingi North and the completion of the tarmac construction for the Migwani-Mbondoni segment of the Kibwezi-Kitui-Mwingi route.
In honor of the late chairman of the Committee of Experts who played a major role in the birth of the Constitution 2010, the national government would also work with the county administration to build the proposed Nzamba Kitonga hospital at Mutitu in Kitui East.
