Kajiado Central Taken By ODM

It was unspeakable joy for ODM supporters when the party managed to retain the Kajiado Central seat in a very tightly contested by-election earlier today (16th March 2015).

ODM candidate Elijah Memusi won with 16,008 votes to beat JAP’s Patrick Tutui who came in second with 15,508 votes.

The Kajiado Central seat fell vacant after former MP Joseph Nkaissery was "poached" by the ruling Jubilee administration by being appointed Interior Cabinet Secretary.

Tension was high amid very high security and was made even worse when the electoral commission delayed releasing results from two polling stations. Later the election body released results from one polling station at about 10.15pm and the final results at about 10.38pm.
Some analysts had earlier predicted that the ruling JAP would "grab" this seat from ODM mostly because the Masai would be appreciative of the cabinet appointment of one of their own. But alas, it was not to be. Fascinatingly this is the only seat in Kajiado that was taken by CORD/ODM in the March 2013 elections.
