How the internet has always been the enemy of the Kenya government

Politics and the Kenyan media: This political tool is much more powerful than most realize

In 1999, the internet was still in its’ infancy. It was definitely not what it is today. And yet it played a key role in the politics of that country that is not very different from a third world nation like our beloved Kenya.
Part of the evil Kosovo government strategy then was to control information (the Narc government is doing a lot of this, currently) so that people did not know what was going on. Foreign journalists were deported out of the country and newspapers and radio stations shut down. The local media that remained had everything carefully censored. One of the radio stations shut down was the popular station in Belgrade, B92. The brave journalists here quickly went underground and launched a website. They began to broadcast video, text, and audio. This website provided up-to-the-minute news to the population. The government could not shut down the website because its’ location was unknown. And even if they happen to locate it and shut it down, another server could be used to host the site and get it back online in minutes.
The internet has grown considerably since 1999 and what is more, millions of Kenyans have access to internet facilities all over the country. It is the perfect tool for the new generation of Kenyans to use to liberate our beloved country and get it back on track.

You will be amazed at how word can get even to those without internet facilities in remote villages through word of mouth.

Play your part and make sure that you send out the letter you find at this link:

to a minimum of 5 other Kenyans that you know personally. Send the same letter to every media house you can. Here are the addresses of a few that we have put together. Act now and play your part in helping to liberate our motherland from the hands of individuals who are only interested in their own personal gain and enrichment.

How free is the media in Kenya today?

While Kenyans rejoice that the days of Nyayo House torture terror are over and our media appears to be fairly free an uncensored, the truth is very different.

Actually a new kind of censoring and control of the press has come into place that is much more dangerous and effective than the one we saw in the old days and which this writer also suffered in the hands of.

One dangerous aspect is that in the dark Kanu days of press censorship everybody knew what was going on and Kenyans looked for information from other sources, like the BBC. Today everything seems to be okay and therefore Kenyans swallow everything fed to them by the press, hook line and sinker.

Remember the political analyst who was so critical of the Kibaki administration, Mutahi Ngunyi? What happened to his popular column in the Sunday Nation? Forget any official story issued by a PR department. What really happened?

Why has the Narc government announced that they want to draft a new bill to control the media?

And never forget that media houses are businesses and there are numerous stories that are “killed” every day because of the “wider commercial implications”.

The time has come for Kenyans to wise up and to absorb all the news they receive with an analytical mind and to embrace modern technology that gives the power of the media back to the people through websites, blogs and email. Remember what a critical and major part blogs played in the last American presidential elections?

Then let us not forget the kind of corruption going on in Kenya today. Any person who believes that it does not reach the media, is being extremely naive. More so now, when so much is at stake and some people want to hold on to power at all costs.

The executive decision to retire the old Kshs 1,000 note resulted in a loss of billions of shillings from the personal kitty election war chest of the then DP Ruto.

Most Kenyans were not aware of it, but the appointment of the new director of public prosecutions Noordin Haji to be Ruto's first National Intelligence Services Director General was very significant for anybody following up on clues to answer many disturbing questions concerning what exactly happened last August during the mysterious Presidential elections. John Jomo succeeded in his prayers to the court and Justice Jairus Ngaah issued an injunction prohibiting the agency from requiring Jomo Kenyatta junior to surrender his pistol without first going through the laid down legal process. But how will the Ruto government respond? Here are a few possible "crazy" scenarios.

Those who saw Hussein Mohamed during his distinguished career as a Citizen TV journalist may be excused for feeling pity for him watching his body language a few hours ago as he fielded a question about Raila's claim that President Ruto invited the Tanzanian president to Kenya to mediate talks between him and Raila Odinga, only to snub her. President Samia Suluhu Hassan then left the country after two nights at a Nairobi hotel waiting in vain.

Mohamed started off laughing nervously when the question was posed. He then followed it up with his shifty answer which hardly made sense.

In just a handful of days, what happened in Nyalenda, Kisumu recently has moved from being highly sensitive to the Ruto government to something being discussed openly. And surprisingly, the international media and community are suddenly leading the discussions and showing great concern.

Raila Odinga in a press conference with the international press in Nairobi yesterday even went on to use the phrase “ethnic cleansing” and made comparisons with similar happenings from the past from all over the world.
