Narc Kenya Loyalists Threaten To Defect

Cabinet minister Kipruto arap Kirwa and assistant minister Danson Mungatana have threatened to defect from Narc Kenya if the party does not hold its elections within the month.

The two claim that a clique of politicians from one region, read mount Kenya have impressed upon the president to stop the party going to the polls maybe until after the general elections expected in December.

It is easy to understand why mount Kenya politicians do not want the party polls soon and would prefer if they were done after the general elections or never done at all.

Common sense says that every parliamentary aspirant from mount Kenya region will fight for the party nomination since it’s the most popular outfit in the region. It is this potentially very stiff competition that incumbent MPs greatly fear in that they could lose in the nomination stages and in effect end their political careers.

A taste of things to come was witnessed in Kipipiri a few weeks when the incumbent Amos Kimunya who is also finance minister was booed , heckled and almost thrown out of a party consultation meeting and was quick to accuse his rival, Mwangi Githiomi of engineering the entire episode.

Just like any other region in the country, majority of the Mount Kenya legislators will not be re-elected to parliament, even those in the current cabinet, and the only way to survive politically is to have them given direct party nominations ahead of the general elections. This is possible but if the electorate wants nothing to do with you, you will lose to your rival irrespective of his or her party affiliation.

With more than he can handle as far as problems are concerned, President Mwai Kibaki will probably never call for the party elections in a bid to avert a split, which could cost him his re-election.

Chances are that Narc Kenya may never hold elections as long as Kibaki is in charge and chances are there will be a major split in the party as a result of his refusal to hold the those polls.

In fact, the failure of Narc Kenya to hold internal elections may result in its defeat in the general elections but president Kibaki's arrogant and selfish advisers don’t seem to see that or maybe, they are too drunk with power to see beyond their noses.

I hate to say it but this is just the chicken coming home to roost. What did Kirwa and Mungatana expect from the house of Mumbi? The presidency? I wonder how Mungatana now feels, seeing as he has to eat his words...after hurling abuses left, right and center, all in the name of Kibabki and his clique? Malipo ni papa hapa, na iwe funzo kwa wengine: NEVER TRUST A KYUK.
