In a previous video on the Kumekucha Chris channel, I shared the story of a journalist from Homa Bay, Kenya, who narrowly escaped his kidnappers by leaping out of a speeding car. At that time, I mentioned that a woman in the car was connected to a senior county official in Migori. Her name was Cheryl, but her full identity wasn’t known. Tragically, we now know her full name: Sharon Otieno. Sadly, her mutilated body was found in Kodera Forest, Homa Bay. Sharon was seven months pregnant, making this case not just a murder but a double homicide.
Journalist Barrack Oduor, who narrowly escaped death, has understandably been cautious about sharing details. However, this case is no longer just about his attempted abduction—it has escalated to murder. This story centers around Sharon Otieno, and it is this investigation that landed Oduor in trouble. While Oduor typically reports on Homa Bay, he was following a significant story tied to Migori, involving Sharon and a senior county official.
The key detail emerging is that Sharon Otieno was allegedly impregnated by a senior Migori official. In his initial statement, Oduor hinted that this official was the Migori Governor, Okoth Obado. Oduor had reportedly gone to Migori to meet the governor's personal assistant, Michael Oyamo, in connection to Sharon's case. It appears the story Oduor was chasing was monumental—so significant that it nearly cost him his life.
In cases involving powerful individuals, pregnancies often lead to attempts to silence victims. When bribes fail, some resort to violence. In this instance, the suspected plan was to kill both Oduor and Sharon, leaving their bodies in Kodera Forest to erase any evidence. However, their plan unraveled when Oduor escaped from the moving car, taking crucial information with him.
This raises an important question: why proceed with Sharon's murder knowing there was a witness? The answer lies in panic and poor judgment. The abductors likely contacted their employer after Oduor's escape, only to receive frantic instructions to proceed with Sharon's murder, fearing exposure.
Michael Oyamo, the governor's assistant, has since been arrested, and police suspect his involvement in Sharon's death. This arrest may have led to the discovery of Sharon's body, suggesting the investigation is progressing rapidly. While nothing can bring Sharon back, there is hope for justice.
Finally, a word of caution: there has been a string of botched assassination attempts tied to high-profile individuals in recent years, both in Kenya and neighboring countries. From the Idris Mukhtar case to Bobby Wine’s near-death experience, these incidents show that attempting to silence people through murder is becoming increasingly risky. To anyone involved in such acts: this is not the season for getting away with it.
