Just What Made ODM Postpone Swearing-In Ceremony?

With many internet connections jammed for the last 36 hours, I have not been able to make any post, but congrats Chris and the thousands of Kenyan patriots out there, you have sustained the tempo very well.

After spending the whole day with ODM top brass on new year's eve, I can authoritatively inform the world that this country is headed for a confrontation that will leave deep scars which will last decades to heal. Suggestions of a power sharing deal have been totally rejected by ODM which is demanding that Kibaki concedes defeat and hands over to Raila Odinga. This, according to ODM, is not negotiable. The ODM is working on mobilizing Kenyans to revolt against the PNU so as to force it to resign and give way to the ODM government. This tactic is already working as ALL social and economic actives are presently completely paralyzed. What is making life unbearable for many is that food stocks are running short and the internal security minister has deprived them of information. Food, water and electricity supplies to Kibera have been cut-off and the poor slum dwellers of Kibera are bearing the brunt of Michuki's draconian decrees.

Whereas many will have already dismissed rumors of mass resignations from top public servants, its very true that 80% of them are on the side of ODM, going by the messages of goodwill and solidarity received by the party. The list of ODM well-wishers includes who-is-who in local and global political and business circles. I personally doubt whether Kibaki's PNU composed of the Wekesas, Mungatanas and Kiunjuris of this world will be any match.

When ODM threatened to swear-in the people's president, it took the intervention of top diplomats, world leaders and PNU members known to be close to ODM to forestall what would literally been a creation of a stronger parallel government. Just how was President Raila meant to receive the sword? Who would administer the oath of office? Who were the invited dignitaries? These questions remain unanswered for now, but as someone close to ODM insiders, "everything had elaborately been put in place to ensure a successful official inauguration for Raila."

As the leading political party in this country, the ODM has opted that instead of giving Kenyan security forces an excuse to batter innocent wananchi, it is advising party supporters to follow the law and the ODM yesterday submitted a prerequisite notification to the police of intention to assemble at Uhuru Park on 3rd January 2008 - in what is called the one million protest march. Several resolutions will be made at this rally which will give the general direction which the ODM intends to take in its quest to unseat the PNU.

Many diplomatic and political observers were shocked by the haphazard manner in which Kibaki and his ilk hijacked Kenyan voters. Why you may ask? Well, not only was the vote seen to have been stolen but also for example, during Kibaki's supposed inauguration, THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS NOT PLAYED OR SUNG during the entire ceremony as required by law. Remember for the last fortnight, the Kenyan military have been busy rehearsing an official hand-over ceremony at Nyayo stadium. Although the president is constitutionally also the commander in Chief of the Armed forces, all those important military protocols were thrown out of the window by PNU at State House and this may have upset some military top brass some of whom are seriously contemplating resignations. It seems the PNU are more interested in grabbing political power than following what is the supreme law of the land.

Experts on Kenyan law who read this blog will tell you that the Kibaki presidency is not just a sham but it is in reality a coup de' dat on the Kenyan people.

Diplomats and political observers have offered numerous solutions but these have all been rejected by ODM. This blogger received information that Michuki John Njoroge is now "ruling by proxy" and that there is a group of individuals with connection to Kenya's infamous and powerful corruption networks who have made it their business that the ODM must not be made to take over government at whatever cost.

ODM-K Presidential candidate - perhaps unaware that his past behavior and actions are indirectly responsible for Kenya's sad state of affairs - is now making it his business to contact ODM in a bid to have them "talk" to PNU, the same thing that he himself totally rejected when ODM-K's council of elders and Mrs. Charity Ngilu attempted to do so as to keep the orange families united. In my opinion, Kalonzo Musyoka's political career is moribund and after having roped in the Akamba community into his ill-fated presidential bid, he is the least qualified to act as a mediator in a conflict which pits parties that garnered more than 10 times his own presidential votes. This is made even worse by the fact that Kalonzo's ODM-K took sides at the most crucial point in endorsing a great injustice during the time ODM was making gallant and spirited efforts in stopping a kidnapped ECK Chairman reading illegitimate presidential results. Observers feel the two opposition parties should have been standing in solidarity after blatant robbery of votes from Eastern Province where ironically the ODM-K's presidential candidate hails from.

Meanwhile ODM calls upon its members to remain peaceful in the interim period, but mobilise in their millions to participate in country-wide mass action on Thursday 3rd January 2008. It will be a long and expensive struggle.

  1. Phil you have a big problem that is too big for Kalonzo Musyoka to solve. Please leave him out of your frustration and embarassment. He is not the type to listen to little ogre stories from Raila Odinga and Charity Ngilu.

You are entirely entitled to your non sensical cries but that doesnt mean you should flout simple arithmetic rules. Kalonzo got more than 800000 votes. Now that multiplied by 10 gives you more than 8 million votes which is twice what Raila, Musalia, Ruto and Balala got.(That was a combined vote by the way. Wait until 2012 when these flower boys desert him)) Kalonzo is not responsible for Raila Odinga's loss. If anything he helped him. Had he pretended to back Raila's ill-fated bid, Kibaki would have beaten Raila by more than a million votes. You need to know that and appreciate it.

Kalonzo Musyoka does not need to "mediate" anything. People wasting their time like Raila Odinga will soon start to think. They will do this all by themselves and that is why I am appealing to Kalonzo not to sugar-coat this fellow. Leave him alone and he will grow brains. Kalonzo is not the source of Raila's problems and he will not be the solution.

  2. Can I tell you something for free Phil? Thursday will come and pass and Raila Odinga will be very lucky to get 5000 Kenyans to Uhuru park on Thursday. He can yell the much he likes but the truth is that he lost (Like he always does and always will). We should tune ourselves for more excuses.

Meanwhile, I am waiting for the only thing his supporters understand;INSULTS!

You seem to know alot about democracy. In which world do you live in? Its not about anyone individual, its about preserving the sanctity of democracy. What was done irregardless of who stood for presidency, is that democracy got killed by virtue of some few elite Kenyans who have no place in this democratic country if they flout the rules of the land. No one is bigger than Kenya and its people. So don't start patronizing Kenyan people with your narrow views!

YES KIBAKI STOLE ELECTIONS BUT HOW IS KILLING EACH OTHER GOING TO HELP?
KIBAKI HAS SHOWN HE CARES LITTLE FOR KENYANS BUT RAILA CAN STILL STOP BEING A POLITICIAN AND BE A STATESMAN.
I UNDERSTAND HIS PERSPECTIVE BUT THERE COMES A TIME WHEN THE COUNTRY IS BIGGER THAN INDIVIDUAL AMBITION.
THIS IS A TIME OF LETING SENSE AND REASON PREVAIL.
YOU CAN ADVOCATE MASS PROTESTS BUT WHO WILL GO AND GET KILLED?
KUMEKUCHA YOU HAVE CHILDREN..WHY ARE YOU LETING YOUR BLOG BE USED TO BRING FURTHER CHAOS?
KIBAKI HAS FUCKED UP,RAILA STILL HAS A CHANCE TO BE A BIGGER MAN!
    LET'S PRAY FOR PEACE.
    WE ARE ALL KENYANS.
    GOD BLESS KENYAN!

  7. Vikii, you are entitled to your opinion, but am I entitled to mine too?

Why do you choose to dwell on Kalonzo who occupies only paragraph out of ten? Do you think it was right for a state ceremony that belongs to all Kenyans be conducted in secret at a heavily fortified state house without the protocols observed constitutional?

No so long ago, when asked why he did not stand up to Moi's dictatorial regime, Kalonzo answered " I was a mere cabinet minister". Thirty years from today when recorded history is reviewed, Kalonzo will stand accused of having endorsed a civilian coup against his fellow country men.

Its an open secret that Kalonzo, Kilonzo and the entire ODM-K was Moi's expensive project. Money exchanged hands and even Kalonzo himself knoew he stood NO chance of being elected president. Why did he insist on a wiper miracle??? Because he was, yet again, Moi's errand boy, exactly the same way he was in 1988 at the start of Matiba's problems in KANU Kiharu sub-branch.

Kalonzo's opinion, support or advise is not required by Kenyans. Let him form a coalition with Kibaki and continue his bootlicking with the entire blinded Kamba community behind him.

Meanwhile I challenge you to re-read my post and respond to the issues raised therein.

Anonymous 1 - if I am a fool, then you are an IDIOT. Its better for me to be tear-gased, killed, jailed or detained now so my children and grand-children can have the benefit of living in a free, fair, just, equal and democratic Kenya in future. I am ready for that sacrifice.

  9. NO PUBLIC RALLIES TO BE ALLOWED/ SECURITY SITUATION IMPROVING

Before the General Elections, the Police Commissioner announced that the Government would not allow any public rallies to be held by anybody after the elections. This decision is still in force and will be enforced until the current security situation normalizes.

  10. Phil, I do not see where Kalonzo comes in in Raila's problems. He is not his keeper. While I respect your hallucination of Kalonzo having been a Moi's project, I am persuaded to believe that Moi is Raila's biggest friend because Kalonzo's bid ate into Kibaki's vote. Had he not run,the margin of Raila's defeat would have been multiplied by a very big factor. And while still on it, when Raila Odinga ran in 1997 and got some 600,000 votes, was he a Moi's project? Of course I know your answer because Raila has always been special in every aspect.

I tell you what Phil, Kalonzo was a candidate in this election. He was not the head of the electoral commission, he was not an observer in the election and he is not a judge. That is why he is quiet about the whole thing. Why you expect him to come to your aid, I do not understand.

About my non-response to the other paragraphs, there is nothing to respond to. I choose to wait and see this Raila Odinga might you have always talked about here. And did I tell you something last year? I will burn my passport in the highly unlikely event that he ever becomes president of Kenya, I am waiting.

  11. I am surprised that we are still in the name-calling game. Let me say this: I voted for Mwai Kibaki. He has really disappointed me. I was ready for my side to lose and if this had happened, I would have glady congratulated the many people I know who are in ODM. RIGGING IS WRONG. It is an affront to the intelligence of everybody who went to line up.
I Celebrate NO VICTORY. We are losing as a country and that is the tragedy of all this crap.

    What Kibaki did is WRONG.

But Raila now has a GOLDEN opportunity to win the hearts of all Kenyans, the International Community and...everybody. He can calm his supporters (like the hero he would like to portray himself) and engineer a vote of no confidence in parliament, in good time. By leading a strong opposition, he can bring most of the changes he wanted if he negotiates and uses the power of numbers on the ODM benches.
To forestall the insults that are coming my way soon, I must admit I am no expert in parliamentary business but I think a skilled person like Raila and his comrades should be able to work out a way to paralyze this government without blood letting.

  12. I second the parliament idea although I know Kibaki will try and buy out some ODM MPs.

  13. The Kenyan dream is over for ever, unless you, my country man and woman, react today. We wanted to set up an exemplary democracy and a civilized state compared to none in Africa. Kenyans are intelligent and peace loving.

However Kibaki with the help of his (my) ethnic group has let down the majority of Kenyans as predicted by ODM.

I'm sure Kibaki will never resign to let the legitimately elected President of Kenya, Raila, to take office. Even if he would be willing my people, the Agikuyu, would never never accept it.

As a Kenyan who loves the country above all, I suggest that all Kenyans have to convice the people of Cental Province to accept defeat. The only way to do this PEACEFULLY is to boycott all the bussiness premises and services of this ethnic group in the whole of the country. Kenyans should avoid the banks, hotels, matatus, milk, meat products offered by this community. This is the only way Kenyans can convince them without blood-shed. I'm sure they will force Kibaki to resign within 2 months.

Kenyans protect our hard-earned democracy and prosperity and dont allow any ethnic group to take Kenya back to the dark days. We are not similar to other African nations. We are better! We are all proud to belong to this great nation and no ethnic community has any right to take our pride away.

Vikii, wacha kupigana na hawa jamaa. Kibaki won, he was sworn in and now, it is his third day in office. Kibaki is the president of Kenya. Anybody seekiung to challenge that should seek legal redress and shan the violence that is being witnessed.

  21. Leave Kalonzo alone. The Hooliganism of Raila's supporters is unacceptable in modern society. Raila told BBC in Dholuo that it was time for his community to eat. What a looser and narrow-mindedednedd to appraoch Kenyan presidency. Raila is after power and power only. Let him know that we have not forgotten about the 82 coup, the fraudulently acquired Kisumu Mollasses, the 2 million his father received from the Goldenberg Scandal.

His fanatical supporters will protest whether he wins or looses. I do not support rigging but Raila is not the material to lead Kenya... His rumors of witchcraft, secret deals with moslim are unacceptable. He will make the noises he can make but the writting is on the wall - He will have to try his luck in 2012!!

  22. being a kenyan, i think the kenyan military should show more professionalism like they did when moi and uhuru lost the elections, they should pressure kibaki to resign and allow democratic elected govt to take place. Thats the only way forward ortherwise we will see more bloodshed,Raila should not concede defeat at all, he is the president elect. Kibaki must resign and accept the peoples choice, kenya military can save the situation.

This thing has become like, everybody against the Kikuyu and this so sad.

    and now Kiviutu:

    http://www.eastandard.net/news/?id=1143979833

On claims that he was under undue pressure to declare results, Kivuitu said: "Some PNU (Party of National Unity) and ODM-Kenya leaders put me under pressure by calling me frequently, asking me to announce the results immediately"

  24. You guys please just stop it! whatever kibaki did with his alleys its done and there is no going back to it. We don't want to go back its time we just move on guys. 2012 is not a long way and we can kick him out and elect those we want. How would you feel if a relative of yours was killed in the shoot-outs? do you have any idea how painful it is? all we kenyans want is peace thats all! innocent kenyans are dying for no reason, while others are not even moved by their babaric acts of killing fellow kenyans.
You are fighting for a leader who will not die for you, who does not care how you are or what is the status quo of your welfare, he is not even worth dying or fighting for. Please Kenyans i beg you to please think about the life after that fighting.
    please think about it!!

  25. Hey guys, we ought to realise the country is above all of us. All our leaders, ODM and PNU should own up to their mistakes. Kibaki honorably resigns and Raila calms the crowd and we find a peaceful situation to solve this. It's our country for crying out loud!! I mean you can't govern without people accepting your victory!!

  26. The day Kenyan people will wake up one morning and think they are Kenyans, will be the day they will start thinking what neo-colonialsm is doing in Kenya at the moment.
As my friend from the Caribbean told me, black people suffers from the effects of slavery, colonialism and its the high time "21st century" that we address this issue and stop thinking Jaluo, Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Kamba, Kisii the list goes on to Ibo`s and Zulus etc.
Election only took a day, and the stupidness of uneducated in Kenya sorry to say and Intelectuals abroad have been compromised by two people, Kibaki and Raila "millionaires". They are now spilling poor people’s blood for their own selfishness, greed and power hunger. What do you think they want to accomplish? Protect their ill gotten wealth some of which have been stashed in foreign banks (safe deposits) while poor Kibera voters slaughter one another and others in Eldoret and Nyanza burn their loved neighbours houses, because they are from different tribes. And as we speak, Kibaki and Raila are tossing champagne and shouting loud "cheers". Probably with UK, US and Canadian Ambassadors. They all go to bed together. These guys are crooks, I quote John Kerry when Bush was declared the USA President the second time. After rigging Florida votes where his brother was Governor.

KENYANS, I PLEAD WITH YOU. LET US WORK, STUDY AND GO BACK TO KENYA AND DEVELOP OUR NATION. KIBAKI IS 76 YRS come on, RAILA 62 YEARS hihi getting there, PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK. These people have never experienced poverty and the people dying are hardly 30 years old. ARE WE BUILDING OR DESTROYING OUR FUTURE?
These guys are senile, and the reason i`m saying that is because of the lifestyle they have. Ordinary Kenyans should come together as brothers and sisters and oust these guys out of office and out of our way and take charge of our country.

They have so much money; they can live wherever they want in this world without working until they die.

  27. Vikii, Kalonzo is a none starter so please..spare us. Raila Odinga won thelectons and notby fraud either and there lies the problem. the public (most of whom are class C1) feel cheated and they cannot take their grievances to court so they take t the street and vent on the middle-class Kenyan. The police then try to stop the unrest by killing people from two opposition strongholds (Kisumu & Eldoret but if you're from the right ethnic fold, they let you pass which leads the people to the conlusion that the Govt is practising what is known as Ethnic cleansing which is why they are in turn attacking the Kikuyu's. Secondly, I doubt Ugandan forces are the ones doing the killing in Kisumu..they are on their side of the border but have not crossed over and the border is in fact closed as I type this..surely, someone would have seen their deployment and the International Community would have raised hell. but if there is proof that thy are in Kenya, send it to me and I'll light a fire right in the heart of Kampala where I am.

  28. African elites like to kill their own fellow Africans in order to pretect foreign interests.

    Quote
    "
Kibaki's reassuring elder statesman stature had made him the darling of the Nairobi business world and of foreign investors
    "
    UNQUOTE

This is what is killing kenyans. Kibaki has to protect the investors who have been unable to create jobs. Most young people out of college cannot find employment!

Whenever you see chaos in Africa, the figures behind the scene are foreign something assisted by local elites!!!

The current overt violence and looting is just as ugly as the ones perpetrated by the powerful elite looters behind closed doors. The latter is where you find "Goldberg and Anglo Leasing"; the economic violence of the worst calibre on small country like Kenya. The money lost there could have built some housing for people living in Kibera or Mathare, right VIKII and DEREK?

Tribalism is a control tool employed by the elites in power and their foreign friends to confuse the masses. The looting goes on while chaos is encouraged. Think about it, why is Demcractic Republic of Congo in everlasting turmoil while precious stones worth billions of dollard are being plundered by the western corporations? The minerals from that country empowers the celular phones while poor congolese are killed or fleeing!!

I do not know of anybody more stupid than African elites in power who only know how to create massive slums and butcher the poor living there.
