General Elections 2007: Who Will Be Raila Odinga's Running Mate? Surprise, Surprise

In view of the strategy that Narc Kenya are bound to use against Raila Odinga, if he stands for president, the choice of his vice presidential running mate, will be critical.

It is the opinion of this writer that Raila Odinga is unstoppable and will win the ODM-Kenya nomination without breaking into a sweat. The real challenge he will face will however be beating the incumbent, President Mwai Kibaki. Narc-Kenya are widely expected to fan anti-Luo tribal sentiments promoted by the Kenyatta administation in the 60s and 70s.

Interestingly most analysts agree that only one candidate is best suited to serve Agwambo's political interests well and give him a higher chance of winning the presidency. And assuming that this particular person accepts to be his running mate, then they will be in a position to revive their own political career, which now seems to be in dire straits. That man's name is of course Uhuru Kenyatta.

Uhuru Kenyatta has been official leader of the opposition but is only beginning to cut his teeth as his own man after being under the shadow of retired President Moi for too long. However he has shown great promise and great potential.

There are those who believe that Uhuru will have minimal influence over the Kikuyu vote as a vice presidential running mate of Raila, a Luo. Still, there is no doubt that it is the best option open to Raila at the moment, more so because the number of youth voters across tribal lines in the country who will be quick to identify with Uhuru is huge.

In the past Uhuru and Agwambo have always worked very well together, as was evidenced during the New Constitution referendum in November 2005. Can they work together to get President Kibaki out of State House?

  1. Have to agree with u on that. But it would mean no placve for Kalonzo mwana Musyoka and that then becomes the big issue because it would loose ODm the Eastern province vote

  2. I will tell u something about Raila Odinga. But first I agree when u say that Agwambo's nomination as the ODM-K Presidential candidate is a foregone conclusion. The issue of his running mate may not be an issue to him; he passed that signpost a long time ago. He is going to create a broad power structure at the cabinet level that will apease all the contenders viz/ Uhuru VP, Ruto PM, Musalia Deputy PM, Kalonzo Deputy PM 2. To Agwambo, it will not matter if Kalonzo opts out of ODM-k for whatever reasons. As long as he will have Rift Valley, Central Kenya, Western, Nyanza and Coast Provinces,he is home and dry. Steadman polls have given Kalonzo false promises and he will soon prove it after the nomination. Kalonzo was a Raila creation since the days of the fall-out in Narc. Him and his supporters had fallen prey to Raila propaganda networks that marketed him as the 'Tosha' candidate after the fallout and he believed it. The beauty about Agwambo is that he is so smart that he is able to destroy what he builts when he wants to.
I will assure you this- If Kalonzo does not play his cards right after the ODM-K nominations and chooses to walk out on Raila Odinga, then that will mark the begining of the end of his ambition to occupy this country's leadership. Raila Odinga knows how to pay back to those who double cross him. Moi did it and everyone sees what became of him and his Project. Kibaki also did it and I swear as the east is from the west, he is about to taste the dose that Moi was given in 2002. That is why the wisest in the constelation of ODM-K presidential aspirants will capture the opportunity and act like playing the Kingmaker role to Agwambo in the coming election and that person will surely inherit his mantle when his term expires. I have one reason to back this prophesy - Luos fanatically supports Amolo Odinga like nothing. They have shown it before and they will show it as long as he lives. Anyone who stands with Amolo at this time will surely be rewarded with support in future.

As for Kalonzo, I can see his pride going into his head and he seems to believe on the Steadman more than reading the political dynamics of the day. He has lost his chance of rising higher in future. If I were him, I would have declared my support to Agwambo a long time ago and this rygmerole of ODM-K nominations would be long gone!
