Majority Of Kenyans Favored Senator Obama’s Remarks, Poll Reveals

A recent online poll has clearly shown the sentiments of the Kenyan people towards Senator Barack Obama and the remarks he made in Nairobi which seem to have greatly angered the Kenyan government.

The poll results clearly portray a government that is directly not in sync with the thinking of the very electorate that brough them into power and from which they will seek votes once more in the December 2007 polls. It is clear evidence that the Kibaki administration has completely los touch with the ordinary people of Kenya, whom the senator seems to have a much better understanding of.

Here are the results of the online poll;

(Based on 684 votes)
Poll Question: Was Senator Barack Obama's speech in Nairobi justified?

Yes 81.0%

No 19.0%

The online poll is ongoing at the Nation media group site.

  1. The Senator came and went, apparently after raising a dust storm. Allow me Chris to make a few observations:

We would all agree that his sentiments and political observations were accurate.

But I am very sceptical of 'foreigners' claiming to have blanket antidotes for our political ailments. Obama by the way is an American citizen, not a Kenyan.

Do not get me wrong, I am not a Kibaki apologist. I am an African apologist. It would be good to see Kenyans, one day, telling these former colonialists and imperialists to stick their 'constructive criticism' and advice where it is dark.

There is no perfect society in this world and it is time we appreciated this fact of life. Even these so called models are wanting. Current example is the ridicule Tony Blair is been subjected to. You would ask, why should Gordon Brown 'inherit' the Prime Ministership in the so called citadel of democracy? Remember the American election with cooked up registers in Florida? How come I don't hear the Chinese been lectured on 'democratic principles'?

Even when they were castigating Moi it still irked me to see Kenyans supporting them during the onslaught. Kenyans have become prostitutes and quite cheap ones at that. Mesmerised by anything western, foreign and glittering.

I would like to see the day a Kenyan parliamentarian conducts a series of talks in USA criticizing American involvement in Iraq, CIA secret prisons, Guantanamo etc. That will never happen because they will not allow it, so why should we?

I will never support the way we prostrate ourselves in front of these foreigners. It is repugnant and we should take a leaf from the Nigerians who don't entertain such nonsense in their midst.

Even if we have an ogre or prophet as our leader, these countries should respect us, unconditionally!!!

Even if Agwambo becomes the president and makes his blunders, I will never support a foreigner coming to criticise my country in my face.

Slavery and colonialism are historical footnotes.

FYI the Americans are extremely hostile to the Kibaki government because he sought alternatives and refused to sign that shameful treaty they wanted to push down our throats.

Kenyans, please salvage your pride as Africans!!

  2. This government has been given the benefit of two strikes... three and they are out.

    • The resounding "NO" in the 2005 Referendum. I remember after hearing the results I said out loud..."These people won't see the point. They won't see that the people are fed up and want change. Instead they will blame the No people for subortaging their "successful" campaign to give us a constitution. They will blame Kenyans for rejecting something they've always wanted and decide that the NO means Kenyans are ok with the current constitution. Strike one...

    • The hope that people welcomed Senator Obama. Did you see their eyes when he spoke, when they looked at him...when he walked among them in Kibera? They were looking at him as they had looked at the current crop of politicians in 2002. I wonder how stupid this govt is... it's like seeing your wife admire another man right in front of you... and you still deny what is going on.
It's not that Sen. Obama means anything - and I agree that we should be able to tell foreigners to email their opinions to nowhere@wedon'tcare.com - but Obama was just a symbol of hope that we've lost in our govt and its opposition. They are unable to see that either... Strike Two...

    • Strike three - If they don't watch out that will be in Dec 2007...and they are out!!
