Here is a widely circulated email that has been doing the rounds, highlighting Kibaki tribal appointments. The President's handlers should not ignore this trend now emerging (which is exactly what happened in the run up to referendum) where anti-Kibaki emails are beginning to circulate with a vengeance. They have to come up with a counter-strategy that is not tribal and they have to do so pronto.
Dear Friends,
Please give me a minute......
Since the days of the great economist Adam Smith, it has come to be accepted globally that there cannot be true development without participation of the people. Any approach that exclusively concentrates on statistics at the expense of the people would result into 'human beings being seen only as instruments of production rather than as free entities for whose welfare and cultural advance the increased production is intended...' (See Five-Year Perspective, 1960- 1964, UN Doc. E/3347/Rev. 1, Para. 90 (1960))
In Kenya, unfortunately, we have hyped so much the statistical 5.8 economic growth without asking ourselves who is participating in and therefore benefiting from that growth!! In deed you don't have to be a special branch (or is it NSIS) agent to know the beneficiaries of the Kenyan economy. A close look at the public service appointments and the buyers of privatised public institutions will tell you how Kibaki is using his entrusted position to sell Kenya to his tribesmen at the expense of the rest of Kenyans!! (see below)
And yet he claims to be an economist-------
Even moi who was a non-economist tried to involve all Kenyans in the little development in the KANU era!....
It is no wonder that the people selling the statistical development record of Kibaki as a campaign tool are the very beneficiary from Kibaki's tribe!....
Kenya is for all of us!! We must all benefit equally from the rich resources that God has endowed our country with. We must therefore stand up and say no to tribalists like Kibaki who believe that Kenya is made up of only his tribesmen!!
Kenya is for Kenyans of all tribes, colour and creed not just Kikuyus or people from Central or GEMA! Shame on Kibaki. Atoke kabisa! We have no more space for tribalists.
And just for those who may dismiss this piece as mere propaganda see the FACTs below!!

A Little creativity made Kenyan man $1,000 in daily profits
This woman has never heard sex, the reason will shock you.
It is sad as it is absolutely appalling. However, one cannot lay blame an entire community on inappropriate action by a few misguided individuals. These appointments are certainly not coincidental and cannot be justified in a multi ethnic society like Kenya.
ReplyDeleteTo add on to what you already listed, you forgot to mention; the people behind CITI HOPPA, Double M and Commuter Train - public transportation companies are all Kikuyus. These companies have been "conveniently" licenced to operate within the CBD at the expense of KBS and other able operators. You will remember at least the Moi regime tried to tame matatu madness with the Nyayo Buses managed by NYS. Not tribal outfits!!
It is an open secret which group of people enriched themselves by embezzling funds from public enterprises in the 1960s and 1970s. The effect of that eventually led to the collapse of some like Kenacto Taxis and Uchumi Supermarkets. While this government is very keen on reviving Uchumi Supermarkets (whose CEO is a Kikuyu) with loans from the treasury, nobody wants to pay attention to KBS, Muhoroni & Miwani Sugar Mills, Kicomi & Rivatex, to name but a few parastatals which directly benefited thousands of Kenyan families when in operation. Talk about sharing the national cake! Talk about majimbo!
It is a
ReplyDeleteIt is surprising that on one hand we preach that tribalism should be irradicated in Kenya and on the other hand lament about appointments that are geared towards one tribe. I think the question to ask is " are these fellows qualified for the work they have been given?" If the answer is yes, then who gives a F*@#K what tride they are?
ReplyDeleteYou are simply perpetuating bias against kikuyus by regurgitating this meaningless email of kikuyu appointees. You as an educated and inetlligent person, the author of this weblog, ought to add some balance and objective critique to the post. If at all you want to prove that kibaki is "only appointing kikuyus" then you MUST show us appointments of non-kikuyus in the rest of the governemnt. Let us see how the other ministries are doing, finance and education does not prove any point.
ReplyDeleteFinally, I think the discussion should be centered on finding solutions to this critical issue of appointment of senior civil servants. THERE OUGHT TO BE AN ACCEPTABLE PROCESS IN PLACE. If not, the next president will continue in the same Moi and Kibaki manner and we will be back here posting biased emails about tribalism in appointments.
Peter Kenneth is a white man. Or half-cast to make it sound better. How many Kalenjins were placed in strategic positions to supress kikuyus. Your bias is uncaled for. How many road engineers were promoted when Raila Odinga was minister for roads. Peter Kenneth He rose up there because was close to a Kalenjin woman, then powerful in the Moi system. Why dont you give credit to the jobs created by the Kikuyu businessmen.
ReplyDeleteMois uppressed the Kikuyu press, Citizen, People and even Nation (remember the transmission licence). Now the businesses are thriving. Is it wrong. How many has your Molasses plant employed?
All the comments above have some bias in them. In my other post I pointed out how we should compare kikuyus vis a vis other tribes and not try to bring a guided discussion for debate. I believe the blogger has a duty to present the case in a not so guided manner. It is also important to look at the ministry of energy in 2001. It was full of luos just like the ministry of health is full of kambas today. If these ministers are already filling their ministries with their cousins girlfriends and boyfriends what will happen when (or is it if) they become president?
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand we should not only read bias in the discussion. The number of these kikuyus also raises questions. As much as most of them including Karume are qualified for these jobs we also have professors like Njenga Karum,e scattered all over the country not only in Cenral province. Appointments should include every tribe albeit not in the same proportions.
First, Chris, are you part of the Mollases franchasise as implied above? I hope not otherwise your cover is blown. That said, you can discern from the vitrol directed in your direction that you have hit raw nerves (read the truth).
ReplyDeleteAti qualified, my foot. Well, I amy be the fool here since Njenga Karume has a PhD in military science. Besides, Evans Gicheru was the most qualified professor of law (please spare me the barage of experience at the bench). Even governor Jeb Bush knew he had to forgo or postpone some of his ambitions given the blood relations with the incumbent. Give us another coloured lie and we will be more tha n happy to make it a rainbow.
Now with the tongue out of the cheek, all I see are red herrings hanged out to dry in shame. We have the rersources and manpower. The problem: not equitably and proportionally distributed. Result? Discontentment and less optimal output - no pulling together. No lectures, no postering, no brinkmanship nor grandstanding, pure and simple.
Vikii,
ReplyDeleteThe person/people presenting employment figures for Kikuyus only is just as bad as the problem he/she is trying to inform the world about.
Whomever is sending this kikuyu hate mail needs to show us employment data for all other tribes in Kenya. In addition, we need to know which kikuyus were appoiunted by Kibaki because there are many who were in government even before NARC came to power.
In the absence of a well defined and acceptable hiring process for senior govt officials - anything goes - unfortunately .....
The question is - what should the hiring process be?.
Most opposition politicians will not address this question because they are waiting their turn to grab the levers of power so that they cant appoint their kinsmen .... we shall be here next year saying the same thing ....
Taabu missed Vikii's reference of Karume as Professor Mwana Nichi. Guys this is funny. It is the bomb
ReplyDeleteits such a pity that as we try to eradicate tribalism some guys in here are fueeling in it. I augur with Karimi, how many people were apponited to these position before 2002. Have we looked at the credentials of these people, are they performing etc etc. Lets be critical in our arguments and observation.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, i am starting to lose faith in this blog - its wise to check facts before putting such stuff on the public domain. P. Njuki is not the chairman of Consolidated bank anymore. KISS FM is not,and has never been owned by the Kittony's, Kittony Jnr is just a director by virtue of his financial input. Citi Hoppa and Double M came in after the lapse of KBS's monopoly ti operate in town, not because the owners are Kikuyu!!! Man, lets check out facts, and avoid ignorance at all costs
Pls let us not be economical with the facts.
ReplyDelete1) The reason why the Kitonnys got a substantial share in KissFM is because that was the only way the outfit could get licensed in the Moi era. There was NO cash investment. I have my facts, my brother.
2) You make it sound like the Citi Hoppa license to operate in Nairobi was available to anybody with the money. Is this really true? Have you forgotten about the contract between KBS and the City Council that was breached in giving Citi Hoppa a licence? Actually Citi Hopa contributed to the collapse of KBS in a big way.
-Kumekucha-
methinks some of the arguments used here are similar to Hitlers demonization of the jews i.e pointing to a few jews in powerful positions to justify his anti-semitic actions. Aren't there plenty of other Kenyans in leadership positions and BTW isn't Githongo a Kikuyu?
ReplyDeleteThank you Chris. You may also remind anonymous about the people behind the "fastest growing" indigenous banks in Kenya today. Is it genuine growth? or government depositors have been forced to put their money there?
ReplyDeleteI agree with the many peace loving kenyans out there that this blog is starting to stink!!! We clearly need the figures on how many of these positions were created from 2003 and out of that how many of these appointees were not in line to take over those positions. We as well need to know who holds what position in other ministries.
ReplyDeleteI don't like getting into tribal politics but i have to mention that when ochilo ayacko was in min of energy most luos rose thru the ranks at kplc at such blindening speed people didnt know what had hit them. Stories are told of how many people quit their jobs in frustration because they couldnt stand watching people who were 3-4 levels their juniors taking over their positions. The same trickled over to the ministry of health when Ngilu took over. All the kaleos who were once permanent residents at MTC were replaced with kaos.
As much as we would want to believe that kikuyus are the only tribalists in the country the arguement wont hold much water. We the 'now' generation should work at transending the kind of tribal animosty being exhibited in this blog!
Haki iwe ngao na mlinzi na tukae kwa undugu.. amani na upendo....

you make it seem as if these professionals who just happen to be kikuyu were taken from the village gishagi and appointed to these posts.most if not all joined there ministries decades ago, kinyua joined the finance ministry in the 80s or early 90s as a clerk or some low accountant and has risen through the ranks because of his hardwork not tribe.Waweru has been in the kra for many years and has risen via the ranks same as the managers of other corporations. if you have worked had and are appointed to a position you should not apologize just because someone is jelous of your career achievments, it is fovour from our father GOD. One does not choose to be born kikuyu but you do choose where to end. hating and castigating people because of there name is not Godly, what the blogger should be focusing on is are the respective ministries and corporations performing, are they delivreing services to KENYANS.If you are appointed whether kamba, kale, sappere, jango, taita, maasai, meru e.t.c doesnt matter. What matters is are u making sure that our economy is growing, promoting entreprenuers via sustained policies,is our country able to compete with other countries.I compare such sentiments like in the Bible when Jesus going on with his ministry healing, feeding the hungry, raising the dead, sight to the blind and performing all sorts of miracles and all the Pharisees thought of is how to kill Him and that He had the power of the devil.ON the Citihoppa and double M and local banks issue, since when did we condemn enterprenuers who have started and run succesful businesses on basis of tribe, we should rather be congratulating them sporting a need in the market and maximizing to the full, for creating jobs to thousands of Kenyans who would otherwise be unemployed or criminals. We should ecourage Kenyans to emulate if not be better than them. This is what will take our country forward economically not hatred towards others and being pessimists
ReplyDeleteIn case you might e-mail me with a couple of options on just the way you made your blog look this excellent, I'd be grateful.
