Kenyans are notorious for ignoring what is happening in their very own backyard.
A sign of things to come in Kenya? Congo's most successful President to date was sworn in when he was only 29 years old. His major challenger in the ongoing elections is 44 years old. What will either candidates discuss with the 75 year old tribalistic grand fathers currently leading Kenya?
While many may be aware of the fact that the Presidential elections in Congo have just been completed, few will have noted that the two front runners so far are a 44 year old (Jean-Pierre Bemba) and the incumbent, President Joseph Kabila who is 35 and assumed the presidency on the death of his father in January 26th 2001 at the age of 29!
Incidentally President Kabila has been what many term as the most successful president of Congo so far.
Now what can the President of Congo discuss with the 75 year old Kenyan President (Mwai Kibaki)? With all due respect I don’t see the folks from Congo having much to discuss with other hopefuls including Kalonzo Musyoka (53) Raila Odinga (61). These guys are too old. They have put the country in a mess and left Kenya more tribal than it was at independence in 1963.
It seems that the winds of change are truly blowing across Africa now and beckoning for a young Kenyan man somewhere definitely not older than Bemba (44) to take over the reigns of power in 2007.
Strategically Congo is extremely important to Kenya and indeed the whole of Africa. Rich in minerals and the size of Western Europe geographically, the story of Congo is a sad one of continuous foreign interference. We can not expect a low crime rate in Kenya when there is no stability in the region.
The time for the youth of Kenya to get going to put one of our own in State House, is now.

Kumekucha For President: Two Initiatives That Will Have Tremendous Impact On The Lives of Kenyans
The much-talked-about-and-looked-for photograph of Winnie Wangui Mwai that has now been circulating via email for a long time, has finally surfaced at some photography blog.

I hear you... but out of all the contenders who do you think in your opinion can hold their ground in the elections next year without being in a coalition??? Who has been given a chance and done something with it? Who can we trust with the next five years? Who do you see us queing to vote in... not cause of who he is but because of what he stands for...???????
ReplyDeleteThen it's really disturbing that the 75 year old Kibaki started off on the Cabinet as the youngest (dunno how old he was)... Just goes to show how selfish the older generation are, by refusing to move on and letting there be space for us to step onto the plate... so now we'll just have to heave-ho them out of there... but I ask again... who is suitable for us to chose in 2007?
Vee,
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good point about the current crop of leaders including President Kibaki who got on the cabinet when they were in their late 20s but now do not want to leave and give a chance to a younger generation.
Vee, I consider you an insider and part and parcel of this blog. To answer your question. It will happen only if YOU do something. The problem with us Kenyans is that we always leave it to "somebody else" to do something. There is nobody else, just YOU.
This blog may look like a small step, but it gets read by many people, and in the days to come it will be read by millions of Kenyans. I am personally prepared to do everything possible in my power to get a younger man into State House in 2007, even using whatever money I may have to support their campaign.
Now here is what YOU can do. Today I have launched a special forum/mailing list group whose sole intention is to get a younger President into State House in 2007 even if it is this blogger (born a few days after independence 1963).
I am extending a personal invitation to you, my dear to be the first after myself to join a brand new mailing list for Kenyans where we will push forward this initiative and I am confident that we can get a younger person into State House in 2007. (It does not have to be this blogger).
Many minds are better than one and I have a number of initiatives we can implement and we have plenty of other brilliant Kenyans out there. Let us join forces and you will be surprised what we can achieve together.
Forget the current Contenders. Vee, Kumekucha and company are coming (even if you do not believe it now, please lean on my faith and confidence).
Read the details about joining the group in the next post, below.
