Update On Insecurity And Escalating Crime In Kenya: Ali's Radical Ideas Start Emerging

The increased power that police commissioner Maj Gen Ali has finally started to enjoy, is now clearly being illustrated by the radical but highly creative new ideas now emerging.

In a move designed to arrest the runaway crime rate in the country, the police are now offering cash rewards for the recovery of weapons in a move that is meant to entice the public to report those keeping illicit firearms which are the ones doing all the damage.

For the recovery of a rifle, a Sh 50,000 reward awaits the person who will give information that will lead to its discovery while Sh 20,000 goes the same way for information leading to the recovery of a pistol.

This is an ingenious idea on the side of the police in a country where the crime rate is rising hand in hand with poverty levels. However it will also take courage on the part of the 'snitches' to make this operation a success.

It is also common knowledge that those who keep illegal weapons are known by members of the public but the same public chooses to keep quiet on the grounds that 'it is none of their business' while others can't imagine what could happen to them if they reported the culprits to the police and were discovered to have done so by criminals.

A friend of mine once told me that he visited a bar in Kayole in broad daylight to play pool and to his amazement, most of those who were 'shooting' were carrying concealed firearms which were visible when they bent down to shoot the balls, apparently, they were not police officers and were all barely 18 years old. Actually my friend suddenly lost his appetite for the pool game and had to find an excuse to leave immediately after quickly playing himself out of the first game.

Sh 50,000 is quite a 'large' amount of cash in Kenya today, about US$ 700 and this might just do the trick in bringing in the numerous AK-47 assault rifles that are in the wrong hands while Sh 20,000 is a modest enticement to report one having a pistol which he or she should not have. Interestingly an AK-47 rifle costs about Sh 50,000 in the black market while a pistol goes for between Sh 15,000-25,000, figures similar to what the police are offering for the recovery of the same. There is a high possibility that the reward money will quickly be compensated for by what would have been the government budget to purchase these weapons from the world market for the growing police force.

These offers come a day after top security chiefs met in Nairobi to discuss the upsurge of high profile crimes including bank robberies and the gunning down of police officers and it is most likely that the idea of offering rewards to members of the public on the recovery of illegal weapons was mooted here. Ali himself made it very clear in a Televised interview on NTV that his main target will be illicit fire arms and even proposed that much stiffer sentences be mooted in the Kenyan law for those found in possession of illegal arms. It is therefore clear where all these radical but very workable ideas are coming from.

This fact alone should render the recovery of illicit weapons a big success and hopefully the nightmare that has been insecurity will be dealt with once and for all.

The really sad thing is how politics has kept these ideas from emerging much earlier. Imagine the number of Kenyan lives that would have been saved.

Masai African Tribe Sexual Secrets: Maasai Sex Tourism And The Nude Tribe That Attracts White Women Tourists Like A Magnet | Maasai dating secrets

Believe it or not most Kenyans who are fellow countrymen to the Maasai tribe know very little about this African tribe in comparison to white women and westerners in general who have discovered certain amazing Maasai secrets through mainly word of mouth. Local fellow Kenyans who don't belong to the Masai tribe don't have the slightest clue about these Masai top secrets.

The reason is not too difficult to guess. Many Africans who believe that they are civilized usually look down on the Masai tribe and dismiss them as primitive, uneducated and backward. They therefore have no need to understand this unique African tribe's culture. So finding out what many women in the west have discovered about the Masai tribe is virtually impossible for them.

What you are about to read will shock you. And most of all this information will answer a burning question that has arisen in recent
times where white women tourists on holiday have come to Kenya with only one objective on their minds—to find a lover from the Masai tribe. An even more disturbing trend has arisen where women who manage to accomplish this weird objective are hooked for life and some have even left their families, husbands and financial security, to settle for life with their new-found penniless Masai lovers.

In one widely publicized case in Britain, not too long ago, the rather odd couple soon got into such serious financial problems that the woman was forced to sell "her story" to the notorious British tabloid, The News Of The World. Basically what readers wanted to be told in great detail was what kind of lover from black Africa would cause an intelligent, sophisticated white woman to forget herself. The woman had abandoned her teenage children and puzzled British husband for her young "stupid looking" Masai lover. One even wondered what they discussed—if they were able to have a discussion of any length that is. Sadly the British public did not even get to hear half the story. Well, here is it is just for you with all the gory details.

Firstly it is important to note that Masais are very secretive and will hardly ever openly reveal some of these secrets you are about to read. That is why puzzled tourists have often arrived in Africa and asked locals certain questions, only to receive blank looks in response. They just don't know anything about the Masai.

SEE ALSO: African Tribe Secrets: Bizarre Masai Sex Traditions

To start with the Masai are probably the most promiscuous tribe in East Africa and beyond. Their culture allows them to have any woman in the village as a lover, as long as she is married to their age mate or a person of the same age. In other words a man they were circumcised on the same day with. All you need to do is bury your spear at the entrance of the "bedroom" (usually low mud huts that the Masai live in that resemble Eskimo igloos). So if the man of the house happens to come back home at the end of a long hard day looking forward to some quality time with his new wife but finds a spear buried in the ground outside his house, what do you think they do? They take a walk. I kid you not. They are forced by circumstances to go in search of some other agemates' house where they can bury their spear for the night (literally). The Masai have been practicing this weird custom for centuries, but things do sometimes go terribly wrong. (Read this amazing story of how this custom sometimes leads to murder).

All Masai women circumcise (the brutal practice of FGM—female genital mutilation) and it is unthinkable for any woman not to. But the Masai have a way of arousing their circumcised women. This is accomplished in the way they circumcise their men. They will usually leave some heavy skin hanging downwards around the most sensitive part of the penis. This accomplishes two important objectives, it prolongs lovemaking tremendously (premature ejaculation is probably unheard of amongst the Masai, but more importantly it allows for much more "friction" (and in the right places) which tremendously arouses even a woman whose clitoris has been butchered. This is the Masai secret that makes this African tribe so exceptional in lovemaking. It is the real reason why white tourist women who make love to a Masai completely go crazy and stop thinking straight.

There are some other minor additional factors that further enhance the attractiveness of Masai warriors as lovers, like the fact that the Masai are well endowed. Size does matter. This is partly because they do not wear trousers all their life. Masai warriors literally move around in the nude with only a flimsy bright red cloth covering the front and back. By standing strategically so as to get a side view anybody will be able to see and inspect a Masai warrior's member dangling bravely in the African savannah wind. Secondly in a world that is increasingly full of wimps pretending to be men, the Masai are real men. Part of their initiation into manhood usually involves them in the killing of a full-grown lion in the wild. This is definitely not something for the faint hearted (see other article on the Masai tribe for details). Many men are not aware of the fact that the biggest turn off for a woman is a man who is really just a wimp. Which means that a real man who has killed a lion and fears nothing can be a real turn on.

Interestingly some beach boys in Mombasa who have noted the tourists' preference for Masai lovers have taken the trouble to change their appearance so as to pass for Masai's to the eager white women tourists who have no problem paying handsomely for services rendered. Only that these "fake Masais" are not "genuine merchandise" and any woman who has had a Masai before will be able to tell immediately that it is not the "real thing."

It is time that Kenyans woke up to exactly what is happening on their tourist circuit in their very own country so as to make the decision if we really want to continue attracting these sort of tourists.

Be Warned; Masai folks and other Africans are usually furious when their deepest secrets are revealed to foreigners. Hence some of the hostile comments below. The author would like to assure all readers that this article is factual and very well researched and there is even plenty of evidence to support the amazing claims made here.

Tony Gachoka: Gigolo Or Shrewd Operator With No Morals?

Most Kenyans first came to hear of Tony Gachoka during the late 80's and early 90's when he published an alternative press publication known as the Sunday Post.

What majority of Kenyans don’t know is the fact that the fast talking gigolo turned politician has such a sordid past that it could make a great script for a Hollywood thriller.

'TG' as he is popularly known by the ladies has been a fun loving guy from an early age and at one time, he used to hang out with Uhuru Kenyatta and Gideon Moi, two popular philanderers and playboys who's limits were boundless

In a bid to sustain his big spending habits, Gachoka laid his hands on the title deed of the family's coffee plantation and secured himself a big loan from the bank and went ahead to rent a full floor in a prestigious city building to conduct 'business'.

One of the businesses he did was the publication of the notorious Sunday Post where his contacts with Gideon Moi proved useful because he was able to identify corrupt Asians, most of whom paid him handsomely to keep their stories out of his rag.

In between his business, 'TG' could usually take time off and fly to South Africa with the Moi and Kenyatta siblings for lunch or even a weekend and carry along beautiful young women who were in abundant supply for the trio, with the kind of money that was flowing.

Gachoka's family only came to know of the loan when the bank attached their property for auction for nonpayment on the loan in a saga that resulted to Tony being cursed by the mother.

In a desperate bid to make money after the saga, Gachoka started preying on rich and lonely women and where best to find them than inside parliament and classy restaurants in exclusive suburbs.

He managed to catch the eye of Charity Ngilu while she was still in the opposition and an affair started soon after as her elderly husband, Engineer Ngilu was already senile and sick not to mention his terrible drinking habits. He died in December last year.

The rich engineer had already contracted high blood pressure and diabetes, two diseases that are known to quickly kill libido.

During this same period, Gachoka was also having other affairs with rich women in Nairobi, some even married as he struggled to maintain his big spending lifestyle by 'borrowing' lots of cash from his lovers.

His big break came when NARC came to power and Ngilu was appointed health minister. Gachoka o date been awarded lucrative tenders worth millions of shillings to ironically publicize the HIV-AIDS scourge.

The philanderer has made so much money that he has now opted to plunge into politics and he is contesting the Embakasi parliamentary seat on an ODM-Kenya ticket.

Unfortunately, most Kenyans in leadership positions know the story of Tony Gachoka very well and it will remain to be seen whether the high profile Gigolo will secure the ODM ticket.

Like any good, selfish opportunist, he has already made friends with ODM kingpin Raila Odinga and has even assured him that he is capable of securing votes for him from central province, a near impossible feat which Raila himself does not believe but again, with politics, 'yote yawezekana' which means everything is possible.

Security Minister Comes Under Fire For Misusing The Provincial Administration: Is It Michuki Or Me-Chuki?

It seems that internal security and provincial administration minister John Michuki will always be in the limelight as long as he keeps up his outrageous and outdated utterances that have greatly dented the image of the Kibaki administration.

The former colonial district officer recently fell short of telling chiefs and their assistants that they had an obligation to campaign for the ruling coalition during the forthcoming general elections.

This was shortly after the government increased the salaries of the chiefs and improved their terms of service to the extent where a chief can rise to be a district commissioner, something that was not only unthinkable in the past but also impossible.

Michuki and his energy counterpart Kiraitu Murungi are on record during their days in the opposition as saying that the provincial administration should be scrapped as it simply drained public resources and was not necessary.

Now that the two have undergone a mysterious overnight transformation, read power, they are now saying the provincial administration is here to stay and they should be in the forefront in spreading the 'governments' gospel'

It is obvious that those in power now have realized how an important tool of campaign the provincial administration can be. Look at it this way, here is an established network right from the grass root to the top and fully maintained by the tax payer yet at the whims of the ruling elite. What better form of an effective grassroots campaign tool can one get?

Moi managed to use the provincial administration effectively, which assured him victories in the 1992 and 1997 multi party polls and one major reason why Kanu lost the 2002 polls was the fact that the provincial administration abandoned Kanu at the moment of need, mainly due to the urging of the many major personalities who left the party after Moi declared Uhuru the party's presidential candidate.

Michuki, Murungi and their likes know very well what the provincial administration is capable of doing for them in a campaign but what they should also note is that, if Kenyans feel that they have had enough of the Kibaki administration, they will be voted out with or without the support of the provincial administration.

Reckless Teenage Sex Among Kenyan Girls On The Rise Despite Alarming Aids Figures

Shocking research findings have revealed that girls are engaging in sex at a very young age with 70% of girls between 12-25 years having had sex with cases of some as young as 9 years old.

What is even more shocking is that 47% of girls in the same age group have had an abortion with 40% of them saying they would do it again if they got pregnant.

This statistics go a long way in showing how promiscuous our society has become mainly due to amorous older boys and men who are preying on the young and innocent girls fueled by the popular myth that the younger the girl, the less the chances she could have contracted the deadly HIV-AIDs virus.

If the current economic disparities and poverty is anything to go by, the situation is bound to worsen as most of these young girls engage in sex for commercial reasons with some being so poor that they sell their bodies to raise money for food.

A recent survey by UNICEF in Kenya revealed that there were over 14,000 girls of 15 years and under who are currently engaging in child prostitution countrywide and called on the government to step in and do something about it.

What these researches do not tell us is who exactly is having sex with these underage girls? And again why are men increasingly preferring sex with children, some as young as 9 years and not mature girls as has been the norm. And most important of all, why are men still engaging in unprotected sex yet they know the risks involved?

Unfortunately, the initial research revealed that after their first sexual encounter, the girls start engaging in unprotected sex with their initial partners and it is always the boys who will decide whether a condom will be used or not.

In this era of HIV/AIDS, this is a most dangerous trend which will wipe out the gains made in controlling the scourge which unfortunately hits hardest among the most productive age group in society which is the youth.

Many have argued that declining moral standards are as a result of alarming poverty levels and if the government intended to cultivate a society of probity, uplifting the economic standards of the population is a pre-requisite. This is highly unlikely with the a government that is stuck in a time warp that favors ideas that would have been better suited for the easy-going, sleepy 1970s.

A Real Life Maasai Story From Kenya: What To Do When Your Neighbor Falls Madly In Love With Your Wife

I had heard talk about this amazing Masai story before, but just recently it was confirmed to me by a genuine Masai warrior based in Mombasa, Kenya and whose real reason for being so far away from Masai country and so close to where all the tourists flock, I could not verify immediately.

The Masai culture allows a man to have any married woman in the village and beyond as long as she is married to a person of the same age group. So what happens when a warrior falls in love with somebody else's wife (as is inevitably bound to happen) and wants more of her than is permissible in Masai culture? And the husband naturally gets wind of what is going on and feels the need to make a point? The husband does exactly what some men do the world over, they murder the damned "wife snatcher". Only that murder in this case is accomplished fairly "technically" so that there is no suspicion.

One of the chief chores of a Masai warrior in the community is to help hunt down rogue lions that sometimes attack their herds of cattle. Cows are valued above anything else by the meat-loving Masai tribe. It is the currency that proves a person's real wealth in the community.

Watching the Masai hunt down a lion is not for the faint hearted. A group of about six warriors or more will corner a lion and surround it. They will then begin to hurl spears at it. Inevitably the lion will strike out with its' paws during the encounter and badly injure or even kill one or two of the warriors before it finally succumbs to the numerous spears embedded in it's body. The victorious survivors in the ordeal will then carry the carcass back to the village as they break into song and dance. Little wonder that most times when a lion catches the scent of a Masai, it will flee and try to get as far away possible as it can possibly get. However sometimes it succumbs to hunger and the promise of easy prey and very soft succulent meat that a Masai herd promises. Alas, the lion will almost always have to pay with it's life for this moment of sheer "culinary pleasure".

So this Masai warrior (we shall call him Ole Randy Warrior) falls head over heels in love with the wife of his age mate (we shall call him Ole Jealous Husband). What really bowls him over about her is the natural wide gap in her front teeth. Masai men believe any woman with such a gap is some insanely "hot chic" and an exceptional lover (we shall call Ole Jealous Husband's wife, Hot Number). Ole Randy Warrior's spear ends up being seen at the entrance to Ole Jealous Husband's bedroom too many times. And poor Jealous Husband cannot help seeing the glow that appears in his wife's face when he leaves for the bush every morning. It is obvious that Hot Number is looking forward to much more than the usual chores of the day. It is all too much for the Masai warrior.

So Jealous Husband pretends that he has no clue as to what is going on and becomes very friendly to Randy Warrior. Meanwhile he waits patiently for his opportunity to commit murder. It presents itself soon enough. Jealous Husband's excitement reaches fever pitch one day as he find himself in hot pursuit, alongside Randy Warrior, of a rogue lion that has attacked and fed on several cows belonging to the village. The warriors have been looking for this particular lion for months. Now the animal is within their grasp and they will not allow it to escape. Jealous Husband positions himself strategically right next to Randy Warrior as they surround the huge animal.

The roar of a lion alone causes the ground to shake and would make most men pass urine on themselves just from hearing it. But these are Masai warriors, the roar just excites them.

It is critical in moments like this that everybody throws they spear at about the same time. Anybody who throws theirs a split second earlier will most probably end up dead because the wounded lion will hurl itself in that direction first and kill the warrior instantly with a powerful swipe from it's paw which breaks the neck. Death comes instantaneously. Driven by jealousy and revenge, two extremely strong emotions, even in Masai country, Jealous husband releases his spear a split second earlier and even as it flies through the air, he pretends to slip and fall forward, and conveniently out of the way, leaving Randy Warrior in the clear path of the lion that leaps so fast that the warriors only see it when it's deadly paws swipes at Randy Warrior killing him instantly.

As the warriors victoriously carry the carcass of the dead lion back to the village, they are very suspicious. Murder is not allowed even amongst the Masai. But nobody can prove anything. Even Hot Number is very suspicious but like all Masai women she fears her husband and does not dare say anything. Jealous Husband knows that her "wound" at losing her favorite lover will heal with time.

This is not fiction.

African Tribe Secrets: Bizarre Masai Sex Traditions

Many early writers who have studied African tribe secrets in detail (like Ford and Beach on Page 188 of their 1951 classic) label the Masai tribe “permissive” and with good reason. Observe the following about this fascinating African tribe;

* Although men are strictly forbidden to have sex with a circumcised women (a man must wait until they are circumcised. If they are caught breaking this law, the person will be fined as well as their father, mother. And not only that the village circumciser will take a cow from the person as punishment).

* The Masai are said to believe that the breasts of a girl can only develop when a man has had sex with her. (Von Mitzlaff, 1988 [1994:p80]). For this reason young girls are allowed to

have sex with warriors before they reach puberty and before they are circumcizedwhich also means that they cannot get pregnant. “The Maasai have a widely held belief that semen
helps a girl to develop physically. Morans (young warriors) are considered the epitome of
healthiness, therefore their sperm is best for pre-pubescent girls. The public ceremony associated with “choosing” a Moran for a young girl involves the girl giving the Moran milk to drink. “The exchange of milk and semen, two body fluids with inherent regenerative capacity, symbolizes a complementary, although not equal, relationship.”

* There is free sexual access of a husband’s age mates to a fellow man's wife or wives. The warrior just goes in to her on her marital bed and simply buries a spear at the entrance to keep her husband and other age mates away during the act.

* In the sexual intercourse of warriors with immature girls [ditos] a warrior chooses a dito he fancies, and showers her mother with numerous gifts but since it is not a marriage he gives neither cattle nor goats. Equally, Johnston (1902, II:p824) wrote that Masai girls aged 8 to 13 are picked out by young warriors, after which they have intercourse, “which is considered in no way to be immoral, because the girls are under age, and therefore cannot conceive”.
Girls are often promised in marriage at a young age, even before their birth!”. Leakey (1930:p197-8) writes that Kenyan Masai girls of brothers living in manyattas sleep “from a very early age- long before puberty- on the same beds as couples indulging in sexual intercourse; and even those girls who live in the home villages learn all about such matters at a very early age owing to the fact that they always sleep in their mother’s bed. As soon as ever the first signs of puberty are noticeable, girls may be asked by the warriors to sleep with them, and the question of whether there is complete intercourse or not rests then entirely with the girls. Moreover, the uninitiated boys, and especially those who tour the villages as candidates for initiation, expect any young girls who are not already attached to the warriors to sleep with them. In fact, we may say that for the girls sex life starts before puberty and continues (with no such period of sexual prohibition as the boys have during the novice stage) until they are initiated”. BUT strictly no circumcised youth is permitted to have connection with a circumcised woman, but no objection exists to his having connection with any uncircumcised girl”.

Talk about bizarre African tribe customs.

Fight Against Escalating Crime In Kenya: Why Major General Ali's Contract Will Now Be Renewed

One of the biggest failures of the Kibaki administration is that there is no such thing as planning ahead and instead the government always ends up reacting to a crisis or situation. Crisis management it is called.

This is clearly illustrated by the fact that we are now seeing some action right on the eve of the forthcoming general elections when what is being done now should have actually been done in 2003 or at the very latest the beginning of 2004.

The most recent example of a good thing that this government has done rather late in the day, is the action being planned to revamp and reorganize security agencies in the country to combat rising insecurity and crime. It seems that finally, after so much loss of life, Police Commissioner Maj Gen Ali has finally gotten enough authority to make an impact on things.

In a statement that was released after a high level security meeting yesterday that involved the chief of general staff, head of intelligence, CID boss, principal immigration officer and Police commissioner Ali, as well as head of public service, a number of recommendation were approved for action. One of them was to give Major General Ali full authority to revamp special units and even create new ones where he feels they may be necessary in order to bring the rising crime wave under control. It has taken three years of power struggles (for instance with former CID boss, Kamau) and frustrations from people like Internal security minister John Michuki for Ali to finally get enough "teeth" to have a fighting chance of getting his job done.

It is instructive that a security meeting that has involved such high level attendance right across the board, and especially that of the Chief of general staff is unprecedented in the history of the country. But so is the current wave of escalating crime.

It is now clear that Ali, whose contract expires at the end of March, will most probably get an extension to complete the many new things that we will now see.

It is all a terrible pity because Ali is the first indigenous Kenyan police commissioner in post independent Kenya to be appointed on merit and qualifications. All others before him right from the late Bernard Hinga (who was related to President Kenyatta) right up to people like Kilonzo and Nyaseda had their appointments influenced by powerful politicians.

Interestingly there was a time when some Nation reporters tried to discredit Ali's qualifications on the grounds that he did not go beyond the old Form Four system. Kenya is now infested with people who do not believe that a person can be qualified for any job unless they have a university degree. Hogwash really when you consider that we are now well into the information age where the required skills have changed dramatically and anybody can access any information they want to the point of being an instant expert, on the Internet. Not to mention the fact that Ali has undergone elite Special Forces training in the United States and prior to being seconded to the police was heading a crack military unit of paratroopers. Not to mention the experience the man has had which makes him the perfect choice to deal with the sophisticated criminals that the police are now finding themselves up against.

Ali is also in a unique position to make a difference because the government has finally understood one fundamental aspect of security. And that is the fact that it involves much more than just the police force. The presence for instance of the principal immigration officer in yesterday's high level security meeting seems to address the crux of the whole problem of escalating crime in Kenya. And that is the influx of dangerous arms and dangerous criminals from neighboring war-torn countries like Somalia.

Maj General Ali appeared on the Showdown TV programme last night on NTV and side-stepped many sensitive security questions. The truth is that criminals also watch TV keenly especially where they can glean information on the latest strategy being hatched to combat them. Ali was keenly aware of this and must have greatly disappointed them and probably frustrated some Kenyans keen to know exactly what the police plan to do to combat escalating crime in the country.

One of the questions that kept on coming up concerns the old myth that the police do not have enough fire power to combat sophisticated weaponry from criminals who almost always carry automatic weapons these days. Ali simply said it is not true. What he did not say, probably for security reasons, is that since he arrived at Vigilance house the police armory has seen major changes and the Kenya police are now at an advantage because criminals have to conceal the weapons they carry which limits them in comparison to the new weapons that the police have acquired which they do not need to conceal when they go out to face criminals.

There are also indications that the suggestion from ODM-Kenya's Raila Odinga that the military be brought in has been taken up and one of the crack units that is bound to be formed by Ali will most probably resemble the American SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics). In all likelihood it will include sharp shooters and commandos from the Kenya Army. Not good news at all for the youngsters who have been on a rob-kill-and-rape orgy in recent times.

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru Court Case: Wedding Now Halted By High Court

The high court yesterday halted the wedding plans of one of the most successful television evangelists in Kenya, Bishop (Dr) Margaret Wanjiru to her South African suitor after an injunction filed by her alleged husband, Jimmy Kamangu, a nobody who rose to the limelight recently after claiming he was Wanjiru's husband and had sired two boys with her.

In a saga that reads like a popular Mexican soap opera, Kenyans have been keenly following the story of the Jesus Is Alive Ministries evangelist who has more often than not made 'ungodly' comments about Kamangu to the extent of telling him to "go and hung himself and we will do a funeral".

So far, what many Kenyans have concluded is that this is a case where an ambitious wife left her hopeless husband and made it big by becoming rich and famous only to be haunted by her past as she went ahead with her life and opted to remarry without legally ending her first marriage.

Kamangu on the other hand is a changed man. In the initial interviews when he claimed that he was Wanjiru's legally wedded husband, the man from Gachie near Nairobi could easily pass for a manual laborer with his threadbare jackets and worn out shoes that had seen better days.

Of late, he only wears new clothes and walks around with a brief case not to mention self appointed bodyguards hence raising questions whether the man is being financed by unknown persons, probably "enemies" of Wanjiru. How else could the man have financed his going to court yet the cost of litigation in Kenya is not cheap notwithstanding that Kamangu is unemployed and just another 'rural fellow' surviving from hand to mouth.

Now that the TV evangelist Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has declared her interest in plunging into competitive politics, and in particularly contesting the Starehe parliamentary seat, it is not difficult to imagine why Kamangu has 'come up' now after his silence of several years. The man had even remarried but his second wife also left him a few years ago.

And make no mistake about it, Wanjiru is truly in politics. During the court hearing yesterday, hundreds of her supporters staged a peaceful demonstration outside the court in support of her and waved placards heaped with praises for the evangelist whose favorite opening remarks in her sermons is, "the glory of the Lord is here."

Kenyans are now anxiously waiting for the court ruling as the soap opera continues but the turning point will be when the paternity of Wanjiru's two boys is confirmed through a DNA test as she has in the past denied that she did not sire the boys with Kamangu though the resemblance between them and the 'man from Gachie' is striking, but again, looks can be deceiving.

New Travel Advisory Against Kenya: United States Uses Isolated Incident To Caution Citizens Against Traveling To Kenya

Following the death of two American missionaries gunned down somewhere on the Nairobi-Naivasha road last week, the US government has issued another advisory warning its citizens against visiting Kenya.

This is not only unfair but also hypocritical considering that several people including foreigners violently meet their deaths in the streets of New York, Washington and even Los Angeles in the US yet their home countries don’t issue travel advisories against visiting that violent country.

There is no way that the US can convince anyone that the upsurge in violent crime in Kenya rivals what is happening in America today, the terrorist threat notwithstanding.

After the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center where over 5,000 people were killed in one day, it was obvious that the US had become one of the most dangerous places to visit on earth yet no country issued advisories against it and now that two of its citizens are gunned down in Kenya, they rush to say the country is unsafe.

For starters, the Americans who met their deaths in Nairobi had stopped and parked their car in a spot notoriously known for hijackings and having a sports utility vehicle, they increased their vulnerability without knowing and being white people in a deserted highway, they became easy prey for gangsters who always assume foreigners carry plenty of cash with them all the time.

The travel advisory will adversely affect the tourism industry in Kenya this year at a time when the country was expecting a record number of visitors but it is comforting to note that American tourists to Kenya are negligible as most of the visitors usually come from Europe.

What would really be worrying is if major European countries were to borrow a leaf from the US and issue travel advisories against Kenya. Mercifully, this is unlikely as the only European state known to side with America without thinking twice is the United Kingdom.

US is definitely a more dangerous place to live in than Kenya has ever been and the American authorities should know that gone are the days they could easily dismiss an African country and everybody in the west would believe them.

Legislator Norman Nyagah Humiliated As He Visits His Kamukunji Constituency Ahead Of General Elections

Kamukunji MP and government chief whip Norman Nyaga will not forget yesterday in a hurry.

He was booed and heckled as he received a hostile reception in his own constituency where he went to visit development projects initiated by the constituency development fund popularly known as the CDF.

This incident was significant because it is just the first sign of things to come. More similar incidences are expected countrywide as current MPs who are in the habit of ignoring their constituencies until election time visit ahead of the general elections. And as they meet a more enlightened voter population who are daring enough to take them to task and even dismiss them in their faces.

It is no secret that a majority of the current 210 elected MPs will not see the doors of parliament again considering their selfishness and poor track record in serving the people who elected them with such high expectations.

In many other constituencies, the MPs literally hide from their constituents and usually sneak in at night in their heavily tinted sports utility vehicles and leave early in the morning for the city after consulting with a few confidants and hanger's on who 'brief' them on what is going on in the constituency.

However, why Kenyans love to hate the current crop of legislators is due to the fact that they have increased their salaries and allowances tremendously in a span of five years and now carry home about Sh 700,000 monthly which is equivalent to US$ 10,000 making them amongst the best paid lawmakers in the world.

This was done despite the fact that Kenya is among the poorest countries in the world where the gap between the rich and the poor is obscene leave alone the fact that about 70% of the population live below the poverty line.

My guess is that 80% of the current members of parliament will be voted out in the forthcoming general elections and what happened to Nyagah in Kamukunji is just a small glimpse of what MPs should expect when they return to their constituencies to ask for votes.

The insensitive legislators are also planning to pass another motion when parliament resumes to award themselves a Sh 1.5 million 'golden handshake' to carry home for serving for five years. Talk of raising campaign money from public funds.

This ploy will not work since the president rejected a hefty salary increase proposed by the MPs last year but again these selfish men and women will definitely think up another way of fleecing the poverty stricken tax payers before they are finally kicked out of parliament for good.

Nation Media Group Staff Tell Management, 'Without A University Degree You Are Automatically Incompetent': True Or False?

The recent troubles at the Nation media group that were mainly triggered by the management's attempts to downsize the editorial department but which led to the exposure of an alleged sex-for-promotion scandal highlights the arrogance of many university graduates in Kenya today.

One of the complaints in the open letter that was posted on the Internet was that some staff members did not see the sense in reporting to news editors who were "Form Six graduates". It was clear that they found it demeaning for them to do so when they were degree holders themselves.

In fact this attitude is rampant in Kenyan companies and organizations.

With the kind of attitude those junior reporters have at the Nation Media Group, chances are that they will never make a mark in the journalism profession or in any other profession. If for example they cared to investigate carefully the tradition of great and exceptional Fleet Street journalists in the United Kingdom, they would quickly realize that many of the best never saw the inside of a university.

In a way I had the same prejudice when I undertook a consultancy mission at a major corporate company in Kenya to build a new marketing department from scratch, about four years ago. The CEO asked my opinion on what hiring policy I though was best. Without thinking I blurted out that I would consider university graduates only. Several people present at the meeting immediately shot down that suggestion with examples of various star performers in the company who were NOT university graduates. As I embarked on the project, I quickly discovered that they were absolutely right. University graduates in Kenya are extremely arrogant and you can hardly learn anything when you are carrying around a "swollen head." Not to mention the fact that the cost of education in Kenya is such that a high number of these proud graduates were educated with corruption money and embezzled public funds (nothing to be proud about there).

This arrogance seeped through an article written by a Nation reporter on Police commissioner Ali soon after his appointment that emphasized (in a subtle way) the fact that he did not go beyond the old Form four. Yet the current chief of police is the most qualified Kenyan to ever hold that office.

Sadly many people in decision-making positions in Kenya today have the same attitude I had four years ago and are very strict about not employing non-graduates. The result is that a huge industry in forged certificates and degrees has emerged in the country today. And these managers miss a lot of raw talent out there that would have greatly impacted their bottom line.

The truth of the matter is that we are in the information age and the information order has been altered dramatically. For example search engine culture is such that anybody with Internet access has access to any information they may need at any time of the day or night. And they can get it in milliseconds. What this means is that basic talent and intelligence can be much more effective out there in the market place than just a university degree.

It is instructive that the richest man in the world today, Bill Gates did not complete his degree at Harvard and instead dropped out to launch his Microsoft empire.

A colleague has just cheekily reminded me that according to him the primary school educated President Moi was a much more efficient and crafty president than London School of Economics and Makerere University alumni President Kibaki has been. The latter cannot even do corruption efficiently like Moi did and was caught with his pants down over the Anglo Leasing saga. Moi's detractors have been hard pressed to link him to Goldenberg.

LOL! That's funny.

Evil Crime That Still Goes Un-reported

Even as Kenyans face the rapidly increasing incident of crime that is threatening to make life in Kenya unbearable, this writer yesterday made a shocking discovery. There are some very serious crimes taking place in Nairobi virtually daily that go unreported for unexplained reasons.

Here we are referring to the carjackings of matatus. What makes matters worse is that a vast majority of these matatu carjackings end up in the rape of all women passengers. This is very serious. Yet you will never see any news of these incidents that take place almost daily in Nairobi these days. Not a word in the daily newspapers. No hint on radio or TV.

But why?

Talking to several Nairobi residents last night, one told this writer that in the last month alone he has heard of at least 10 carjackings that took place in Nairobi where all the women passengers were raped! This was just unbelievable and so several more Nairobians were interviewed who all confirmed and repeated more or less what the first person whom this writer talked to said.

The reports came from many different matatu routes all over the city, namely Dandora, Umoja, Thika Road and so on. The result is that for a long time now Nairobians have been getting into matatus and not being sure if they will get home safely.

The pattern in these terrible matatu crimes has been fairly consistent. The carjackers board the vehicle and sit strategically with one at the front, close to the driver and two or more at the back with the rest of the passengers. When the vehicle gets to an appropriately lonely stretch of the road. One of the carjackers still posing as a commuter will ask the driver to stop the vehicle so that they get off. The moment the Matatu stops, the gang will usually show their guns and take control of the matatu which is then driven off the main road to some deserted stretch of road. There the passengers will be robbed of cash, valuables and mobile phones. They will also be asked to strip naked and the thugs will then gather all their clothing in one heap to escape with, so as to prevent them raising the alarm too quickly and before the gang has made good their escape. It is at this moment that the carjackers will rape the women passengers of the vehicle at gunpoint. Quite often they will use condoms but on many other occasions, they will not.

In one chilling encounter that took place in a matatu that was bound for Nyeri but which was carjacked not far after Karatina, the carjackers ordered male passengers to have sex with the female passengers in the matatu at gun point. One can imagine what could have happened to some poor Kenyan who happened to be traveling with their daughter, wife or mother.

Why do these terrible heinous crimes go unreported? Why is this information kept away from the public? To stop widespread panic? To help create the impression that crime is under control? As it is Nairobians and indeed many Kenyans are hardly fooled.

Any serious fight against crime must start with the truth and a true and accurate analysis of the state of affairs. Do we not have a government in Kenya? And if we do have one, is it powerless to protect the lives, property and dignity of Kenyans? Or is this government just good at calling press conferences, spreading propaganda and convincing Kenyans that blatant lies are actually the truth?
