An excited Raila Odinga fan based in Mombasa got in touch with me this morning and very excitedly revealed that a popular radio station on Mombasa did a call-in survey to measure the popularity of three of the leading presidential candidates, namely Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Mwai Kibaki. Raila got...

Bombshell Revelation on Both The Kenyatta Family And Moi Family Corruption Rackets

A very knowledgeable and credible source who was close to the inner workings of the Kenyatta administration and then the Moi presidency as well has made a bombshell of a revelation into the way things have been run in Kenya for a long time.
Makes one wonder about the mysterious 5 per cent Safaricom ownership, does it not?

The nation will mark the 25th anniversary of the failed Kenyan coup attempt of 1982 this August in the face of a number of unresolved

Innocent Kenyans Who Lost Their Lives In Mungiki Crackdown In Mathare
archive
Kumekucha has come across the chilling story on the Mathare massacre. The first-hand account of how the Mathare killings started is sickening to say the least and has been supplied by impeccable soures who also helped me cross check certain critical details.
Other shocking revelations include:
1) How a well-known victim was abducted by a police squad, executed along Mombasa road and his body dumped in the Nairobi game park so that wild animals eat it, thus leaving no trace of him.
2) The crackdown on Mungiki has so far claimed more than 1,000 youths and majority of them are innocent!
3) Contrary to the figure of 27 given by the police, 60 youths were killed in the Murang'a massacre. Six of them were innocent pupils.
Don’t miss this amazing Kumekucha exclusive, here tomorrow.

Why Do Kibaki, Raila And Kalonzo Want To Rule On Borrowed Time?

Fellow Kenyans, countrymen, lend me your ears and please leave your hearts out of this weighty matter before us.
Let us start with the facts. Tony Blair took over as Prime Minister of one of the major Western powers of this planet in 1994 when he was a tender 41 years old. Looking at his tenure and even despite criticism, he has done a reasonably good job. Mr Blair is now retired at the age of 54. That age in Kenya is way too young to become president.
Bill Clinton was 47 when he was inaugurated as the 42nd President of the most powerful nation on earth in 1993. To date he is one of the most successful democratic party presidents in the history of
This November 15th Mwai Kibaki, baptized Emilio Stanley by Italian missionaries (but he never uses those names), will be 76. If elected to another term as President of an almost obscure 3rd world country, he will complete that second term at the age of 81. Age is nothing but a number, but surely@#! Assuming that we do this thing the Kenyan way where the presidency is some sort of monarchy that hands down power to the VP (that’s why George Saitoti was so angry that Moi did not hand over the presidency) then Moody Awori should expect to receive the instruments of power in 2012. He will be a “youthful” 85 years old.

Can You Recognize Any Of These Mombasa Swimmers?
This unique photograph was brought to the attention of yours truly by a friend of Kumekucha. I’ve stared at it for a long time.
archive
Extreme left Dr Njoroge Mungai close relative and personal physician to President Jomo Kenyatta. Also foreigh minister responsible for bringing major UN office to Nairobi which remains to date. On the dark side a member of the Kenyatta Kitchen cabinet when Mboya was assassinated. Next is Johnstone Kamau himself, better known to the world as Jomo Kenyatta. Next is Mwinga Chokwe from Mombasa, a one time speaker of the senate in those days. Extreme right, the man Kenya wants to forget but Kumekucha is refusing, Tom Mboya.
I wonder what would have happened if somebody would have stepped in from the future and described the chaotic Kenya of today. Would they have felt guilt, would it have changed anything?
It is difficult to estimate exactly when this photo was taken, but my guess is that it was taken shortly before independence in 1963.

How Corruption Was Launched At State House Nakuru
archive
Some Kenyans believe that it is impossible to ever bring down corruption to manageable levels in the country. It would be useful at this juncture to take a closer look at the two incidents both approved by the executive that launched serious corruption in Kenya.
The first is the much-talked about Ndegwa commission that recommended that civil servants be allowed to indulge in business. The excuse of course was that there weren't too many qualified Kenyans then and the idea was to speed up development. What followed was chaos. How many civil servants since independence have become multi-millionaires by influencing the dishing out of key contracts to their own companies?
The second happened in parliament where an MP asked the government to release the names of those involved in a Cloves smuggling scandal...

Sudden Smoking And Plastic Ban Are Clear Proof That This Government Is Disorganized...
...and doesn't care
archive
The reason why Kenya is in a mess became abundantly clear last week when several things that impact on the common man all happened at the same time.
The government had already increased taxes on the plastic paper bags that have become a nuisance to our environment during Kimunya's latest budget speech in June. The new excise duty is however supposed to become applicable in October thus jacking up the prices of virtually every consumer product that you can think of (but that is a story for another day). But before consumers and manufacturers of the nuisance products that employ and support hundreds of thousands of Kenyan across the nation could recover, the Nairobi City Council banned the plastic bags in the city and its' environs.

Men, it is said are really babies who never grow up. I am a man but unfortunately there is too much evidence to support that allegation.
The excuses wives come up with to avoid submitting to their husbands' conjugal rights are centered on the nagging headache that magically and conveniently appears the moment the man of the house wants to get "heavily romantic."

A Second Term For Kibaki?
archive
President Kibaki's declaration that he will now seek a second term in office is yet another betrayal of the NARC ideology in which he had assured his NAK partners that he, as DP Chairman, would be strictly a one term president. Michael Kijana Wamalwa must be turning in his grave!
This is not to mean that Kibaki does not have a constitutional right to go for the second term. But we must ask ourselves, what is it that has motivated Kibaki to reiterate his desire for a 2nd term? Does he have any new policies to introduce to the nation? Or does he want to continue the legacy of his first term? Either way, it is still not a foregone conclusion that he will be re-elected, although he does enter the race as a front runner with a clear head start...

Do You Know The Political Party To Beat In Elections 2007?

Here's a quick quiz for you.
Which is the party to beat in 2007?
My good friend Phil will say that the answer is obvious. It is ODM-Kenya.
Wrong!
There are those who see Narc-Kenya as the party to beat. What with all the resources of the provincial administration that reaches every little tiny village in the republic fully behind it. Surely this is the political party that will easily grab the vast majority of seats in parliament.
Wrong!
Both political parties are missing a vital ingredient for winning at anything and not just elections. Unity and in this case, party unity.

Violent Teachers And The Cane
archive
Guest post By Ritchie
Of late, there have been cases of teachers accused of inflicting untold suffering and injuries on students and pupils. Instrument of torture? The good old cane.
One is left wondering what the intention of the teacher was prior to the 'accident'. Did the teacher intend to correct a misdoing (by use of corporal punishment) or to maim the student to show that he/she is in control of the class. These thoughts are doing their rounds in my head.
I remember when I was in school in the eighties, the cane was the trademark of any 'proper' school. In other words, cane and school were twin brothers. When I was in Standard Four, for instance, my Mathematics teacher used to 'burst' into class, a nyahunyo (Maasai whip made from car tyres)...

Resume Writing Services: Little Known Free Online Service That Will Help You Secure That Position
Article directory
By Faith McCoy
Some folks are not aware of the fact that there are free online resume writing services that make a big difference in helping you secure that all important position that you have been desiring.
What is a resume and what difference does it make for anybody seeking a job?
A resume or curriculum vitae (CV) in other parts of the world usually makes all the difference between landing and losing a job. That is how important it is. This is the tool that sells you to prospective employers. It is therefore hardly surprising that resume writing services are so popular these days.
The big secret you need to know about resume writing is that if you can manage to show how you will solve the problems the employer wants to solve by filling the position, then it matters little how high the competition for the position is, it will go to you. And yet accomplishing this feat is not as difficult as it may seem at first.
One way to accomplish it is to hire the services of a skilled professional resume writer. Still there is nothing that can stop you being your own highly skilled professional resume writer. All you need to understand are a few basics.
Start by carefully reading the job description for the vacant position several times and making the effort to understand it. The most common mistake people make is to read the job title and make all their conclusions. Remember that companies are different and usually have different priorities and different systems in place. Besides there are many times when positions are created specifically to deal with certain emerging problems in an organization and what they do is scurry around for the job title that comes closest to describing the position. When you are aware of all these facts, you will definitely have a head start over many others.
The truth of the matter is that to secure most desirable jobs and positions these days, you will have just have to find a way of doing some research. Naturally you will need to be very careful about this because some organizations disqualify candidates who call in seeking further information. So what this means is that you have to use any inside information you get very wisely so that it does not look like you have the information in the first place.
But let me emphasize from experience that any trouble you take to do research will more often than not pay dividends for you many times over. It will help get your resume fished out of the heap and carefully kept aside. It will help you land the job interview and ultimately, if you play your cards right, will help you secure that highly desirable but extremely competitive position.
And after you have gathered all the information you need, this wonderful free online resume writing service will help you organize an impressive job-winning professional resume.

Trial Of Man Who Shot Mboya Should Have Been Declared a Mis-trial, New Evidence Now Reveals

I have been forced to delete the post that was "attacked" earlier today and I have re-posted here complete with the comments. These guys do not want Kenyans to know the truth about these scandals involving huge sums of money.

Scandal Bigger Than Anglo Leasing
For legal reasons I cannot say very much about this scandal that has been dubbed bigger than Anglo Leasing. But I will be able to do so very soon. The plot in question is a huge chunk hived off the world famous Masai Mara game reserve. If you are in a position to, just check details of the plot Talek 155.
Even a Google search on Telek 155 yields this link to a story that appeared in one of the dailies.
Several very prominent people in the current administration have been named as beneficiaries of this controversial allocation. This is probably the reason why no action has been taken over the petition lodged almost a year ago (see article for details).

Magothe, there is no judge here. Please, as you have said it in unrelated, I maintain and I believe Chris will also say it that it is a totally unrelated topic and James Mwangi should find a better way of fending off his enemies. This was a matter that came up in parliament and I would not like to challenge that or comment on the contrary, but the privileges that it has within the august house will remain respectful to some extent, from me.
Now, the best thing to do is to contact Assam for a better answer or check with Mwangi if your chances of getting the truth can be settled.
I believe that Chris only opines and has no authority, legal or otherwise to draw conclusions on Trade Bank and associates.
Kindly observe protocol. Did Mwangi sleep with dogs? Believe you me, he will rise with fleas!

Come on guys allow people to differ with you without being emotional. That is not asking for to much, or is it? Bring them on.

Red Alert: Kumekucha Under Attack!!
archive
This is an important notice to all our readers.
When former ethics PS John Githongo posted the famous David Mwiraria Anglo Leasing tapes online, his blog was attacked by some nut who posted masses of government documents in the comments area. The idea was to stop any genuine comments by Kenyans getting through and they succeeded.
Kumekucha is under a similar attack which started the minute I posted a story about some grabbed land right in the middle of the Masai Mara. Some of you may have seen a lengthy pornographic post intended to divert attention away from this issue of national importance which for legal reasons I cannot say very much about. For some strange reason I am having difficulties technical difficulties deleteing it (but I am working on it). I have also been informed by my sources that there is already great fear within the administration insiders over this scandal (which involves various big names in the Kibaki administration) being revealed.
I have therefore moved quickly and taken a number of precautions. If the attack persists, I will have no option but to moderate comments before they appear. I know that we have all enjoyed the chats here a lot, and I sincerely hope that it will not come to this. Obviously they are very determined that the truth does not come out.
I am closely monitoring the situation.
Why Is Hon Michuki bullying his youthful challenger?
The photographs Kumekucha feared to publish.
Horror of Kenyan with female sex organ sharing cell with men at Kamiti Prison

Major Earthquake in Nairobi Imminent?
archive
Over the last 36 hours or so, residents of Nairobi and it’s environs have reported experiencing earth tremors and violent shocks. Indeed it has been reported by geological experts that most of the seismic activity is originating from around the lake Natron area. Lake Natron is in neighboring Tanzania and within the Rift Valley that also sweeps across Kenya and is fairly close to Nairobi.
Now those who have heard the prophecy of a bearded professor of molecular biology turned prophet, Dr David Awuor must be getting the jitters...

President Kibaki's Secret Election—Winning Strategy
archive
I hope all you good folks know who Mutahi Ngunyi is. It is very important that you know because he is at the center of an election campaign winning strategy that has been carefully implemented even before the chaotic referendum of 2005 that is designed to see the ailing sickly President Kibaki back in power for another 5 years term.
Mutahi Ngunyi is that guy in specs who used to make cutting edge analysis in the run up to the 2002 general elections, mostly on KTN TV. He has admitted himself that during those elections he also did some consultancy work for the Kibaki team (which he says in one column that was published in the Daily Nation, candidate Kibaki at that time did not appreciate and arrogantly wondered whether he (Ngunyi) knew what he was talking about.)
In the early years of the Kibaki administration Mutahi Ngunyi's column in the Sunday Nation had become a must-read, especially because of his biting, but well-researched...

Why This Luo Thing Hurts Me So…
archive
Today's posts are all dedicated to the closest friend I ever had, the late Ger Nyanjom, whose life was brutally cut short before he could achieve his dreams. The man who shot him at point blank range in a Nairobi office and stole nothing in 2005 has never been arrested to this day. Circumstances point to the fact that my friend "G" as he was fondly known to those who were close to him, lost his life because he was a Luo (sorry, I can't give details).
Thank you "G" for being there for me when I was down and out. I will not rest until all the Luo propaganda, that has caused so much anguish to this community and which was partly to blame for your death, is reversed and all Kenyans reach a place where they understand and appreciate the Luo community as precious Kenyans whose contribution to our beloved motherland has always been downplayed and undermined. I dream that one day soon, a popular Luo president will be elected in Kenya and the electorate will not even notice that he is a Luo…
I was born in Kisumu and yet strangely enough my parents were not residents of this beautiful Luo Nyanza lakeside city. They were in fact traveling and Kumekucha just couldn't wait to get into this world—if only I knew the nature of this world then, I would not have been in such a hurry.

How Jaramogi Odinga Denied Kenya A Leadership Free Of Tribalism
archive
Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in a moment of jealous rage denied Kenya the perfect non-tribal beginning she deserved and at the same time took away the presidency from his own Luo community and handed it over to another Kenyan community.
The spiritual implications of this action make it difficult for the community to win back the presidency that was there's in the first place but was given away and more so the man's son Raila, (who is as different from his father as light is to day). Something you give away to frustrate your own is not easy to get back.
This is what happened…

Dangerous Presidents-In-Waiting…
It is amazing how very few Kenyans are able to see the ticking time bomb that is in the country today. Even now when it is before our very eyes in increased violence and unexplainable crime wave levels.
One of the things that the Moi administration did was to dramatically increase the number of university graduates the country churns out every year. This is both a good thing and also a very bad thing. A good thing in that Kenya is now reaping dividends in massive foreign exchange inflows from professionals working abroad. In fact repatriated cash from Kenyans working in virtually every country of the world you can think of is the highest foreign exchange earner currently.
It is a bad thing in that a lot of these highly educated young people are jobless and frustrated. The most dangerous thing for Kenya is the fact that we have too many people who are frustrated and have nothing to lose. That is one of the reasons why the Mungiki terror gang continues to recruit in large numbers.
There is nothing more dangerous than having millions of people who go around mostly hungry and have no idea where their next meal is going to come from. These are extremely dangerous masses to have because they really have nothing to lose. The situation exactly shortly before the bloody French Revolution.
Yet none of the men who want to be president has seriously addressed this issue which is already breaking up the country. And if they have, it is to suggest that the people eat cakes if bread is scarce...

Bizarre Kenyan Economy: Shilling Strengthens But Prices Rise Steeply
One does not need to be an economist to grasp a simple truth.
When the currency of a country strengthens against major foreign currencies, it means that imported inputs become cheaper and costs of production and distribution of products and services should fall (and this impacts everybody because goods also need to be transported and a stronger shilling means that we need less shillings to buy petrol for example). In other words it is rather obvious that prices should fall.
But look at the situation in Kenya today. As the shilling continues to strengthen, the prices continue to go up.
So what's wrong?

Kalonzo Musyoka’s Worst Nightmare Comes True
From the latest Steadmann Polls, we now know why Kalonzo Musyoka wanted the ODM presidential candidate decided early. What his handlers feared would happen has come to pass, at least according to the latest poll where he has continued to slip further behind as Raila surges ahead.
We also know that amongst the “lies peddled by current prominent ODM luminaries was that Kalonzo would be the opposition’s presidential candidate. That would explain the sudden popularity of the Mwingi North MP and his high score even in Luo Nyanza for the presidency. But now that the rift within ODM has become common knowledge, it seems that the popularity of the candidate is melting fast before our very eyes.

Kalonzo Musyoka And The Top Kenyan Who Failed Badly In A Recent Job Interview
Kenyans are renowned for their job interview skills.
In fact I have personally witnessed situations where Kenyans are so good at the job interview that they end up being disappointing at the actual job because they showed more promise than they actually possessed at the job interview. In the job market we refer to such candidates as "job interview professionals". So good at landing jobs, but hopeless when it comes to doing the actual work they landed a position to do.
The Mwingi North MP has sent an implication to a prospective employer for the position of CEO and recently in one of the interviews with his prospective employer he did what you never, EVER do at a job interview. He lost his temper. I once went to a job interview where the Italian executive did everything possible, and came very close to succeeding, in making me lose my temper. He made fun of my qualifications, mimicked something of the things I said in a comical jeering manner. Said things about my upbringing etc.

A Time And A Chance For Change In Kenya
Bill Gates, until recently the richest man in the world and founder of Microsoft, once said that the reason why he did the sort of thing that if he were a Kenyan would have resulted in a curse from the clan (that is dropping out of Harvard) was because he saw a window of opportunity. And he took it.
Obviously windows of opportunity do not remain open indefinitely and had Mr Gates waited and finished his degree in Harvard, Microsoft and his fortunes would never have been.
This is the reason why I have made an impassioned plea to our brothers who would rather wait for 2012 to get involved in any initiative to bring about change in Kenya. We have a unique window of opportunity now because...

The 4th President Project Update No 1
It is amazing what happens when two or three minds get together. You can imagine what will happen when our numbers reach 2 or 3 million, which will be very soon. As I write this I already have very workable detailed strategic action plans of how to meet our objective here that have arrived via email.
I take this opportunity to thank all those who have already volunteered to "get their hands dirty" towards meeting our 4th-President-project whose objective is to put a president of our choice into State house. I really like what Jeff said in a comment elsewhere in this blog. I have reproduced his comments below. The most striking thing is that things have already started happening and if anything comes out of this we can never claim to be the ones who started it. Kenyans everywhere are already fed up and have decided to do something about it.

Myth On The Presidency That Has Fooled Even Intelligent Kenyans
How two unqualified chaps fooled a nation, the third simply appended his signature
The last time I checked, Kenya is not a kingdom. And yet that is precisely how even highly educated Kenyans some of whom read this blog treat the office of the president. This is proving to be a big obstacle in the search by ordinary Kenyans for the right candidate.
For those who are unaware, a King owns all their subjects and everything that they have. You breathe and live at the pleasure of your King. (An interesting aside here is that in our country all civil servants still serve at the pleasure of the president and that is why President Moi was within his constitutional rights one day when he instructed at a public meeting; Nikifika Nakuru sitaki nione hio nyangau English translation; "When I reach Nakuru, I do not want to see that animal in office." The Kings's word is not just final, it is the law...

Kidnapped 3 Year Old Child's Severed Head And Hands Found On The Banks Of Nairobi River
As the police supposedly continue to win their war against crime, a child disappeared on Sunday in the Baba Dogo area of Nairobi and the mother has been looking everywhere for the 3 year old boy.
Her search ended yesterday on the banks of Nairobi River when a hawker in search of maize to sell stumbled upon the body parts of what remained of the boy. It is not clear who informed the mother and she arrived at the scene before the police arrived to remove the body, to confirm that the head was indeed that of her missing son. Naturally she could not be consoled.

Publishing Books Will Enable You To Do What You Enjoy Most

By Faith McCoy
Nothing opens doors for people like publishing books related to their expertise. And I have even bigger news for you; there has never been a better time in history for you to publish a book based on yourself and what you like to do. Yes, yes, I hear you point to the massive unlimited free information available online. Yes, I hear you point to the fact that all sorts of media, which drives folks crazy and should also be driving them away from books, bombard us all.
But let me tell you a short story to get my point across. In the early days of radio, nobody wanted his or her songs aired on radio. Many were sure that radio spelt doom and would inevitably bring down the music industry. Instead radio opened the door for mega-hits and mega stars like Michael Jackson. And these days people are desperately fighting to get their songs on radio. So, what happened? You see it was assumed that if somebody heard your song on the radio, they would not feel the need to buy your records (in those days). But instead the very opposite happened. Tens of thousands of people who would otherwise never have heard your song, hear it and a substantial percentage can't get enough of it and therefore troop to the store to purchase your tracks.
Books are enjoying a similar boom courtesy of the Internet. That is one of the reasons why Amazon.com is so big and prosperous. However many other smaller book selling operations are doing roaring business on the World Wide Web. You see the web opens up a market of tens of millions of potential readers who would never have heard of your book in hundred years. The truth is that apart from getting to do what you enjoy most by publishing a book on your life experience, you can also very easily make quite a bundle, while you are at it.
Why Are The People Publishing Books Getting Such High Sales?
Why should books sell in millions when we have so much free information floating around on the net? The answer is simple. The information available on the World Wide Web often creates more hunger for information, which can only be satisfied by detailed books. Just like radio still creates more hunger for the songs aired.
In fact the problem is that most of those publishing books have not yet learnt how to make full use of the Internet—the most powerful book promotion tool ever invented. You'll agree with me on this by the time you finish reading this article.
What Should You Write About?
Publishing books is an excellent way to promote your business and unique skills. Books quickly make you an expert in the eyes of the public and is a brilliant and effective way to launch a career as a consultant in whatever it is you are so good at doing. This is exactly how so many have ended up being able to do what they enjoy most for a living. Usually even the books themselves end up being a significant profit center in a consultant's career. For example they can be sold at the back of the room every time you are invited to speak somewhere. Alternatively you can refer to it when giving free consultancy services online at forums (as a strategy to promote your services). There are numerous other ways to promote both your consultancy services and your book.
Promoting Your Book With Popular Keywords And (SEO) Search Engine Optimized Articles
Publishing books is one thing but selling them is quite another. The secret lies in exposing it to your target market and hottest prospects. When you do this you will usually make it all look very easy. It is very easy to do this online because all you need to do is use the right keywords and a little seo (search engine optimization) skills. In fact you don't need to do it yourself, you can just look for a ghost writer who understands books and how to promote them online.
Publishing And Selling Books Is Easier With Blogs
Blogs are the most wonderful and effective promotional tool for selling books. You can publish excerpts as the book is in progress, or you can publish teaser posts once your book is out. There are actually numerous ways to use blogs to guarantee that publishing books is a rewarding and lucrative cash cow for you.
Conclusion
It really does not matter how humble your vocation is, as the saying goes everybody has at least one book in them. Therefore you must seriously consider publishing books on what you know or love.

Kumekucha Reorganizes
You will have noticed that there are a lot of changes at this site.
For a number of reasons, I have had to re-organize this Kumekucha site, basically changing the location of things but none of this will in any way interfere with your enjoyment of this highly popular and addictive site. If anything your pleasurable experience will be enhanced because you will now have access to a lot more than just Kenyan politics and news.
Although the main page will remain here, I will be re-directing Kenyan politics and news traffic to our sister Kumekucha site. One of the things that has happened recently is that we have detected attempts to hack into our main site and I feel that it is prudent at this time that we take precautions against such an eventuality. This main site will now feature the headlines and a brief summary before linking to the actual stories. This main site will now also take up the role of being an article directory to store quality articles and information as well as help people direct targeted traffic to their sites. So in case you have a site that you would like to direct loads of tagetted traffic to, then this is a good site to post educative and informative articles with links leading back to your site. They have to be approved of course because we want to maintain high standards.
Meanwhile you will still be able to enjoy quality kumekucha content both here and at Kumekucha1.blogspot.com, and I will feel much more secure and more prepared to face any emergency or adversary in future.
Thank you and ENJOY.

How Rampant Lawlessness In Kenya Today Started From The Top

Yesterday a mysterious fire broke out at a primary school in Kawangware. Despite several frantic calls to the fire department and their assurance that they were on the way, they did not arrive until well over an hour when the fire had already done a lot of damage. The mob that had gathered around went berserk and started throwing stones at the fire engine and pelting the firemen with everything they could lay their hands on.
Most of readers pointed out quite correctly the inhuman manner in which an adulterous woman and her lover were paraded stark naked in the streets in broad daylight after being caught red handed in the act. (see photographs...

Why Posting Your Original Articles In Blogs Will Get You Loads Of Traffic
Article Directory Special
You need to understand why blogs are generally so much more effective in generating traffic than websites. Why blogs always tend to rank higher than web sites in search engines results for popular keywords and why blogs have made many more millionaires much more quickly than websites ever did.
Grasping and understanding the blog advantage will mean much more traffic for you and all the sites you ever promote using articles;
1. Linking comes naturally in the blogosphere and these links rapidly accumulate to a high number and directs colossal chunks of traffic from one blog to another. There are blogs out there that have never featured significantly in any search engine but enjoy daily six-figure traffic, all coming in through links from other blogs. Your article posted at the right blog has a decent chance of rapidly attracting links and traffic.
2. However it is also true that the high number of links inevitably takes blogs right to the top of search engine results for popular keywords, which causes even more traffic to pour in for a long time to come. Articles that you post in blogs that get liked and thus attract lots of links will be pushed right to the top with very little or no further effort from you.
3. The giant Google-owned blogger.com, which is by far the largest host of blogs on the web usually lists recently posted article and interesting new blogs in its' home page. This sites home page receives millions of visitors daily and this gives any article posted in a blog extra publicity and visibility and a chance of getting noticed.
4. Google also have a blog search engine called Google blog search that is getting more and more popular by the day. In fact traffic to this blog search tool is exploding. And it is not too difficult to figure out why. Searching for most information is a lot easier at the blog search engine than it is at the conventional search engine. You're usually looking for as much content as possible and the content is in blogs. When your article is posted at some blog, you dramatically increase the chances of somebody finding you using the blog search tool.
5. Remember that even when a blog that does not link to your article gets traffic, chances are high that the traffic will end up at your blog site. How many times have you followed links three or four times across several blogs? That's how the blogosphere operates and you'd be crazy not to look for a way to cash in on this as soon as possible.

Is Stephen Muiruri In Trouble Again Over A Mere Letter To MPs?
archive
Within a few hours of publishing former Nation crime editor’s letter here, it seems that the whole episode has stirred up a hornet’s nest.
Personally I find this whole episode ridiculous and rather strange, especially when we know that the same letter we published here was sent to all MPs. So what is the fuss all about?
Kumekucha has been contacted by some desperate-sounding persons claiming that top policemen are plotting to arrest Muiruri again or at the very least harass him over the letter which certain interests are extremely furious about. More so the ones he exposes in the letter.
Had I not received this other communication, I would have dismissed the following comment as something from one of the nuts who linger around this blog. However based on the information that I now have I sense that there could be more to this strange comment which I have reproduced at the end of this post (the original can be found at the post of the Muiruri letter to MPs.)
What does Muiruri know that makes these guys go ballistic every time he writes a harmless open letter? Would Mr Stephen Muiruri dare to shed light on this?
So what is my opinion on the proposed Media Bill, Phil asks? I agree with the readers here who make an interesting observation. That getting a conviction based on the bill would be highly unlikely because it contradicts several key constitutional rights.
But my attention is drawn to a bigger question;
Why is the government so keen on a media bill so much so that other much more important and pressing matters have been swept aside to make room for the passing of this media bill? Even key constitutional reforms are not as important as the medis bill. WHY??? What is the government frightened of? Another scandal about to be revealed that is bigger than Anglo Leasing? (keep your eyes on this space)?
Still the fact that Stephen Muiruri has been harassed by a hypocritical mainstream press who want press freedom for the mainstream media and then turn round and condemn the very alternative press where they get some of their best leads from is worth noting. Sometimes these “respectable” media houses even go out of their way to ask their members of staff to stay away from Kumekucha. With this in mind, maybe it would be a good idea for the Media bill to be passed so that it hinders the work of the hypocritical and highly selective mainstream chaps. We can then all start fighting for press freedom all over again and this time without hypocrisies or double standards. Sometimes when you build a house and it has major flaws, the best way round the problem is to bring it down and start over.

Chris, am a police officer based at Police Hqs, Nairobi. I attended a meeting where the issue of Muiruri's letter on the media bill, which you have posted on your blog was discussed. I had to sneak from the office to go to the cyber to read the letter. Compo (Ali) is very mad with the article and Muiruri might fall in deep trouble soon. Please do something to save this guy. He used to be the solo voice of police officers when he was at Nation but all those he left behind have been heavily compromised by Compo and the press if full of lies these days. Police officers are suffering now there's no one to speak for them. Crime has sykrocketted and all the media happy to report are lies. We are not happy when our colleagues and Kenyans are being killed. Use your influential blog to save Muiruri.

The 4th President Of Kenya
archive
The charade in Mombasa involving presidential hopeful Kalonzo Musyoka and a highly charged jeering crowd and the rest of the high drama revolving around ODM's selection of a presidential candidate is really occupying many Kenyans. One of the reasons for this is that many believe that if ODM sticks together and supports one candidate for the presidency, they will win the presidency hands down.
What we have all failed to do is to soberly look at the work that needs to be done so that we may seek the candidate best suited for the office of president. Many Kenyans choose to be "realists" instead and in the process we fall neatly into the plans of the political ruling class. I urge all you "realists" out there to spare a moment to read this article and also our guest post by a Michael Mundia Kamau. It is my hope that your eyes will be opened.
At the very least I beg you to think outside the box. Because we have some extraordinary challenges and problems facing us in Kenya just now, which cannot be solved using the same old tricks which have failed us in the past.
Many times, my ideas here have been dismissed and I have been called a dreamer. And yet the saddest thing that can ever happened to a human being is for them to stop dreaming. I once met an old man in his late 60s at a jua kali garage where I had taken my ramshackle of a vehicle for repairs. It was a time in my life when I was facing so many problems and auctioneers were around the corner waiting to pounce on my car at any time. The man looked at my car admiringly and said to the mechanic in Kikuyu that in his entire life he had never owned a car. That’s statement struck me and I realized that every little kid dreams of owning a car, but what happens along the way? Many of them become "realists" and they lose the dream and in many cases the chance to own their own car. I hope I am not getting too deep when I say that life gives only that which you demand and nothing more, nothing less. What a man can dream of having, deeply desire and even imagine having, life will always give. But "realists" true to their realism receive only what is within their realistic reasoning.
My question here has always been; even after the harsh reality and hard knocks of this life, can you dare dream? Are you man enough to dream of something bigger than a car? Can you dream big dreams? Like a just government led by a fearless courageous president (preferably not older than 45) ready to give all for the cause of a better Kenya? Can you dare dream of playing a part in installing such a president as the fourth president of Kenya?
But let us start with a job description. What is the job on hand waiting for the 4th president of Kenya? Here is a short list;
1) Must be courageous enough to constitute a truth and reconciliation commission to bury all the skeletons in Kenya's closet because that is the only way we can have a truly new beginning.
2) Be courageous enough to take some tough decisions that will be politically unpopular but will be for the greater good of the country, like 1) above which will mean various popular tribal chiefs confessing their terrible sins and thus destroying their future political careers to stay out of prison. Others will refuse to confess and will have to be jailed or punished according to the law.
3) Be courageous enough to end corruption from the top. President Kibaki sounded very determined making his acceptance speech shortly after being sworn in as the 3rd President on that unforgettable December day, 2002. So what happened after that? I will tell you. Powerful forces came into play and the president had to survive. He had to abandon the dream and be a realist. Kenya cannot afford a repeat in the fourth president, we are rapidly running out of time here.
4) Be courageous enough to tackle tribalism head-on. For starters by appointing persons from as many different tribes across the country as possible to key positions. And also by passing laws that will clamp down hard on tribalism and any future administration that will "want to do things the way they have always been done."
5) Courageous enough to tackle the huge land crisis which is a time bomb waiting to blow this country into many tiny fragments if it is not dealt with quickly, like yesterday.
6) Courageous enough to implement new creative (out of the box) ideas that will make use of the resources that we have in plenty lying idle in the country while Kenyans suffer. Resources like lots of idle land and idle labour (Kenya's labor force is the most highly skilled and qualified on the continent today). We also have plenty of sun that can be turned into electricity. Enough rain to end all our water problems with the right rain harvest and storage strategy and policies etc.
7) But most of all courageous enough to start their administration with one priority. To get Kenyans working whether it is abroad or locally, to create laws and policies that encourage existing employers to employ more people and also to grow small businesses dramatically with a lot of help from the government because small businesses are the largest creators of employment in the world (not big foreign investors establishing factories in Kenya. Did you see what happened with the EPZ's.)
With all due respect to my dear readers and their preferred presidential candidates, let us remember that what we are doing here is not the same thing as naming our favorite soccer striker in the English premiership. Or our favorite ice-cream flavor. This is a matter of grave importance. A matter of life or death for many ordinary voiceless Kenyans. In fact the lives of millions of Kenyans hangs on it and that of your children and great grand children many generations to come. We cannot afford to get it wrong this time. Resigning ourselves to 2012 is suicide because one wrong move and we will not have a country left by 2009 let alone 2012. Can't you see the writing on the wall?
With this in mind I respectfully disqualify the following candidates;
Raila Odinga: does not qualify because despite his demonstrated courage, there is no way he will be able to deal with corruption with the current structure in ODM because many (if not all) of his tribal chiefs he is relying on to corner votes in various parts of the country are suspects of grand corruption. William Ruto should tell us how he made his wealth. Sally Kosgei whom Raila has been warning up to also has scandals linked to her. Musalia Mudavadi knows a thing or two about Goldenberg (the single scum that impoverished and killed the largest number of Kenyans in the history of our country). The same thing that happened to President Kibaki's resolve is bound to happen to his come March 2008 when the pressure will be unbearable.
Kalonzo Musyoka: I do not want to repeat that it is a fact that he hid in the National assembly toilets to avoid voting on important matters of national importance in parliament. Mr Musyoka told the Sunday Nation that he is a revolutionary. I'm sorry but that is laughable. These are not the Kanu days when mere words and slogans were peddled countrywise as the gospel truth and Kenyans were forced to swallow it hook line and sinker or else… I have tried very hard to look for something courageous that this fellow tribes-mate of mine has done in his life and the only one that comes close was his attendance of the controversial ODM rally in Mombasa last weekend. And the fact that he asked a hammer wielding charged, emotional man in the crowd to pass the hammer to him. That was brave.
I can't imagine this guy driving out the influential drug Lords who control Kenya at the moment and have made the country one of the major transit points in the world for all sorts of illicit drugs. Or saying "No" to the corrupt moneyed and very dangerous individuals who are the real rulers of Kenya.
Let me stop there and drop names of two individuals who have proved their bravery and ability to risk everything on a matter or principal. This is what we badly need in Kenya today.
John Githongo: John Githongo's Dad is a close friend of the President. Imagine that! Githongo was so principled that he was willing to say "No" to his own family and close friends. In fact many Kikuyus view him as an enemy instead of the national hero that he is. Believe me it would have been very easy for John to just turn the other way and play ball and he would have been a very wealthy man today and comfortably living in his own country instead of in exile. And amongst other things his father's outstanding bank loan would have quickly been paid off a long time ago. It is not an impossible dream to get John Githongo elected the 4th President of Kenya. It can be done. All we need to do is agree and the means will be found quicker that you think.
I dream of a Githongo presidency that will give Kenya the true new beginning that we all seek.
Stephen Muiruri: The former Nation crime editor is an example of the kind of character that we should be thinking of for this high office. Don't laugh. Remember we agreed to think outside the box here. If you carefully study the kind of wars this brother of ours is fighting, you will begin to understand where I am going with this.
The 4th president will need to be a courageous fighter. This is not the time to dream of long motorcades and everybody calling you "your excellency" which is what the ODM brigade and everybody else is dreaming about.
I bet you none of them are thinking about the ordinary Kenyans who have lost all hope and now have to face the prospect of losing their head even when they are desperately confronting the challenge of putting food on the table amid record economic growth figures.
Somebody has put it in the minds of Kenyans, and sadly including readers of this blog that to be president somebody needs to be very well known and already a politician. I put it to you that as per the current constitution anybody can become president. ANYBODY. All he needs are votes. Al we need is a people-driven wave to sweep our chosen candidate to victory. We can put anybody we want on that seat as long as enough of us have unity of purpose. All we have to do is reach across all the imaginary tribal boundaries like we are starting to do in this blog and seat down and agree.
I dream of a situation where the Nark-Kenya brigade will be busy fighting amongst themselves over parliamentary seat nominees for the party as ODM holds endless discussions over which one of them will be the party's presidential candidate (the reason why they can't decide is because of GREED, nothing else) and meanwhile we ordinary folks say enough is enough and make our own plans. After all it is we who have the voting cards, is it not?
The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.
There is nothing, which the mind of a man can imagine and dream about that cannot be turned into a reality.
Most of all my friends, I dream of the day when all of you will abandon your preferred presidential candidate for us to join together to change our country.
Why Is Hon Michuki bullying his youthful challenger?
The photographs Kumekucha feared to publish.

Mungiki Violence Continues: Line Between Organized Crime, Big Business And Government Is Extremely Blurred

Nairobi, Kenya
President Mwai Kibaki’s Madaraka Day outburst against the Mungiki sect was an act of escapism and hollow bravado, geared at glossing over much deeper and wider societal problems. Even in passing, his Madaraka Day remarks cannot be treated with any shred of seriousness, given the failure of his Government to take any action on the perpetrators of the multi-billion shilling Anglo-Leasing scam of 2004 and equally, the failure of his Government to take action on the criminals who caused damage to the offices and press of the Standard Group in the high profile March 2006 raid, among just two still outstanding matters.
Two of the alleged masterminds of the Standard Group raid, foreigners no less, continued to operate with impunity in the country thereafter, before being belatedly deported following another high profile holdup at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport, yet the president chose to insult the people of Kenya on Madaraka Day by declaring that his Government would not tolerate or harbour any kinds of criminal activity. Were Anglo-Leasing and the Standard Group raid the work of "Mungiki"?
Moreover, and tragically so, Mungiki is just part reflection of the near absolute manner in which this country is now overrun by marauding gangs and murderous militia, whose actions are seldom known to
the wider public. Just before the crush of KQ 507 in May of this year, a gang of thugs gunned down 11 people near Kitale town in inexplicable gangland manner. This matter was quickly overshadowed by the KQ
507 plane crush, and has not been addressed since.
Incidences such as this have in any case been happening in all parts of the country for several years now.
Numerous militia now control and administer different parts of the country, terrorizing, maiming, stealing and raping, and are no different from Congo based militia such as "Intarahamwe" or "Banyamulenge". The security apparatus in all parts of the country have
been heavily compromised by these gangs and militia, or are overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude, in areas where the security apparatus has resisted being compromised. A case in point are the July 2005 killings in Marsabit district where there stands proof of repeated memos to the central Government, both describing a deteriorating situation and appealing for assistance.
In areas such as Nairobi’s peri-urban Ngong division, it is a known fact that inebriated gangs operate in groups of up to one hundred at night and implore residents to scream as much as they want during break-ins. This only makes things worse, and co-operation is often the best defense. Numerous overwhelmed residents in areas such as Ngong have now chosen to either sell their properties, shift, leave their gates and main entrances open at night to lessen the damage, or opted to pay protection money to the gangs or militia. It is a state of futility that the vast majority find themselves in, and it is in extremely poor taste for President Kibaki to brush all this aside and instead make bombastic remarks about only part of a much more serious and much wider phenomenon.
In any case, groupings such as "Mungiki" are the result of extreme societal chauvinism, inequality, insensitivity and prejudice, going back several years.
They have grown from strength to strength, fueled by society’s failure to adapt to changing times and changing realities. The terms in generous use at the moment, such as "crush Mungiki" and "deal with Mungiki once and for all" are in themselves a grim and sordid reflection of how detached we are from reality.
"Mungiki" and other similar groupings, are the Kenyan equivalent of organised crime elsewhere in the world, such as the Sicilian Mafia, the Italian Mafia, the Mafia in America "The Mob", "Commora", the Russian
Mafia and "Yakuza" in Japan. These are powerful and lethal organisations with wide and far reaching tentacles. If the American and Italian Governments have been unable to "crush the Mafia" and/or "deal
with the Mafia once and for all," it is futile for President Kibaki to declare that he will squarely deal with "Mungiki".
The line between organized crime, big business and Government is in any case extremely blurred. One of the most celebrated cases of this involves the high profile Kennedy dynasty in America. The Mob played a
key role in the fortune that family patriarch Ambassador Joseph Kennedy made in the motion picture industry in Hollywood. Ambassador Kennedy also got heavy support from The Mob in the 1960 election victory of his son, former President John F. Kennedy.
It doesn’t stop there. Despite the Warren Commission’s dismissal of a conspiracy in the assassination of President Kennedy and the ridiculous adoption by the same commission of the zigzag trajectory of the bullet
that eventually killed Kennedy, a strong conspiracy theory of the Mafia’s role in the assassination still looms, the motive being that Kennedy had made up his mind to bring down the Mafia. What’s more is that Kennedy shared a mistress, Judith Exner, with then Chicago Mafia boss Sam Giancana, and Judith was said to be one of the key moles that the Mafia had in the White House. Besides, the Zapruder tape taken by an amateur cameraman on the day of Kennedy’s assassination, 22nd November 1963, clearly shows a clear shot to Kennedy’s head, the work of a high calibre rifle even by today’s standards, and certainly
the work of a professional hitman. There is no comparison whatsoever between Ronald Reagan’s attempted assassination in 1981, and John F. Kennedy’s assassination of 1963. Many of us reacted with scornful disbelief when the Kenya Government initially suggested that former Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Ouko had committed suicide following his February 1990 demise, and it is clearly not just the Kenya Government that goofs. One would expect much better from any American Government. What’s more is that John F. Kennedy’s younger brother, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, was known to have even less patience for The
Mob, and had to be stopped even before he became president.
Another example of the large presence of organized crime in society, is the intrigue surrounding the sudden unexpected death of Pope John Paul I in 1978, as captured in David Yallop’s bestseller "In God’s Name". In the said David Yallop classic, one detects a determined effort by Albino Luciano (Pope John Paul I), to rid the Vatican of any Mafia connections and dealings, such as Paul Marcinkus ("God’s Banker"), and collapsed Italian bank, "Banco Ambrosiano". Pope John Paul I paid for this with his life, and Churches in Kenya have no idea what they are talking about when they tell the Kenya Government to immediately crush
"Mungiki".
Comparisons of "Mungiki" with the Sicilian Mafia or the American Mafia do not however start and end there, and this is probably where our greater concern should lie. "Mungiki" clearly also has far-left political leanings and can in this respect be also compared to radical organisations such as Hezbollah, Hamas, Taliban, Tupac Amaru, Fatah al-Islam, Abu Sayyaf and Black September. Mungiki therefore has the combined features of an organised crime outfit such as the Sicilian Mafia, as well left wing rebels with a political cause, such as "Black September", and it is very unfortunate that we have chosen to ignore this fact.
President Kibaki, his Government and indeed all of us, should therefore desist from using terms like "crush" because we are clearly dealing with phenomenon that we clearly don't understand. We should rather engage the likes of Mungiki in talks and discussions, in the same way that the Israelis engaged the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), and in the same way that the Colombian Government engaged the Colombian drug cartels, including Pablo Escobar’s Medellin cartel.
"Mungiki" is not a fairy tale, but grim reality that can tear this country apart in ways that we never imagined. Half of this country is under the siege of "Mungiki" type militia and the other half has
put it’s money into collapsing pyramid schemes, and the best that President Kibaki can offer are hollow threats and a disputable 6.1 % economic growth rate. This country is in a terrible crisis and we are not helping matters by living in denial.
On Valentine’s Day 1929, another high profile, well known and ruthless Chicago mobster, Al Capone, ordered high profile executions on a rival gang, in what has come to be known as "The St. Valentine’s Day
Massacre", and what certainly ranks as one of the most brutal warnings and statements of intent of all time.
Mungiki has done precisely this with it’s recent beheadings and none of us should make things worse by further provoking them.

I Found This In My Email Inbox: Very Funny
Raila, Kibaki, Ngilu and Martha Karua are traveling in a train.
The train suddenly goes thru a tunnel and it gets completely dark. Suddenly there is a kissing sound and then a slap! The train comes out of the tunnel. Ngilu and Raila are sitting there looking perplexed. Kibaki is bent over holding his face, which is red from an apparent slap.
All of them remain diplomatic and nobody says anything.
Ngilu is thinking: "These men are all crazy after Martha Karua. Kibaki must have tried to kiss her in the tunnel. Very proper that she slapped him."
Martha Karua is thinking: "kibaki must have moved to kiss me,and kissed Ngilu instead and got slapped."
Kibaki is thinking: "Damn it, Raila must have tried to kiss Martha Karua, she thought it was me and slapped me."
Raila is thinking: "If this train goes through another tunnel, I could make another kissing sound and slap Kibaki again."

Will Mary Wambui Seek Political Office?
archive
We all know who Mary Wambui is don't we?
Officially there is no link between her and the President. But nobody takes that official word seriously. Not with the huge contingent of GSU paramilitary officers who camp at her Lavington home and the security detail that follows her everywhere she goes.
Kumekucha recognizes her as our beloved President's second wife.
Emerging intelligence indicates that contrary to what most Kenyans think, all is not well at the President's campaign team. There are too many inexperienced analysts who think that just because the economy has grown by over 6% and since the President belongs to the house of Mumbi and they are so many in number that they used to give Moi nightmares whenever elections came up, he will automatically win re-election. Naturally these guys don't understand the first thing about human nature let alone politics (I recommend that they start by reading William's Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and then Machiavelli's, The Prince. You can read it online for free HERE).
Fortunately for the president, some of his aides know better and what is upsetting them is the fact that their sums don't add up to the total they are looking for. Yet they did just a few months ago. But then that is the fluid nature of politics anywhere in the world that caused Winston Churchill to say that a week can be a very long time in politics.
It is no secret that the Mungiki troubles and pressure on Kenyans at the grass roots level from the influential but usually ignored Kenyans residing overseas (many of whom religiously read this blog and sometimes leave comments when time allows) has taken its' toll on public opinion on the ground. And thanks to the excellent intelligence service at the beck and call of the president, word has already reached the inner circle that all is not well.
Some action has already been taken. You will notice that the President is being seen much more in public and his spin doctors will be trying very hard to fight the lame duck image that has come to the forefront as the Mungiki violence has exploded countrywide.
But also activities of a key political activis of the president Mary Wambui, have increased tremendously in the last few weeks. In fact looking at the itinerary of the first Lady No 2, one would easily be convinced that the general elections are being held next month and not in December. For example she was in Malindi yesterday, probably to somehow downplay the impact of the ODM rally that was going on too far away on the North Coast.
Mary Wambui is no doubt a seasoned campaigner (she did more good work for President Kibaki than she will ever be recognized for in 2002) and her failure with the infamous referendum of November 2005 can be attributed to poor strategy and infighting in the government side.
Now there are whispers that if push comes to shove, she may seek political office. The truth is that she can win any parliamentary seat she may fancy in most of Central province.
On a lighter note we already know that First Lady Number 1 is standing for a parliamentary seat somewhere (we don't know where yet). Now imagine a situation where the 3 Kibakis make it to parliament but the senior-most Kibaki loses the presidency? I would advice that his Excellency keeps his parliamentary seat and takes his place in the back benches because his chance for revenge will come before you can say "ODM Kenya." With attendance for important debates in parliament sometimes falling to a mere 7, the 3 Kibakis can easily and quietly frustrate and defeat many government bills in the house. A bloc of 3 assured votes can be very powerful if the habits of the 9th parliament persist to the 10th (which will happen for sure if we vote the same guys back).

The Kalonzo-Nyundo Incident At The ODM Rally In Mombasa
archive
It is not my intention to upset any of the radical emotionally-charged supporters of various leading presidential candidates within ODM who will end up reading this, so I will report just the facts (I have evidence on tape of everything that I am going to say here).
The Mombasa ODM political rally this weekend was held at the Khadija grounds, the first time a rally of such magnitude has taken place outside the Tononoka grounds. The turn out was massive and the crowds were charged.
The candidates first had lunch at Najib Balala's house before proceeding to the rally. Interestingly the same strategy used by Narc in 2002 of using the host "tribal chief" was adopted and it is Balala who led the candidates into the grounds waving vigorously to the wildly cheering crowd.
All hell broke lose when Raila stepped forward to address the crowd who punctuated every other sentence with a resounding shout of "Nyundo." He then introduced Kalonzo Musyoka who immediately ran into problems as he was drowned out by shouts of "Nyundo" most of which were coming from the front section of the crowd. Most of his speech was a shouting march between him and the rowdy section of the crowd shouting "Nyundo." At one point Kalonzo appeared to lose his temper as he handed over the microphone to the next speaker, Musalia Mudavadi, without introducing him. No doubt this small incident will not augur well for the "bonding" of the candidates as the day when the party will have to name its' presidential candidate draws nearer and nearer.
At the end of the rally, the massive crowds almost crowded vehicles off the busy Nyali bridge, which links Mombasa island to the North Coast, as they headed back to their humble abodes, towards the island and its' environs.
I just have two comments to make.
Firstly our political leaders should encourage maturity in their supporters. Shouting down a speaker is not democracy although the same kind of behavior has often been seen in this blog and it is clear Kenyans have chosen to ignore the wisdom of the ancient Greeks. Even if you "violently" disagree with what somebody has to say, at least listen carefully so that you will have valid and powerful arguments against them when it is your turn to air your views. Even supporters need to be able to convince others to join their bandwagon with solid arguments of persuasion based on fact and what has literally "come from the horses' mouth". This is preferable to using abusive language which is the thing intellectually challenged persons tend to do. Some very intelligent Kenyans I know also occasionally sink to this level when they decide to have a few rather strong drinks before visiting Kumekucha to make comments (you know yourself--my friend).
Secondly it is clear that ODM has a head start at the Coast and Narc's recent victory in the Magarini by-election by a small handful of votes is not a reflection of how Coast voters will vote in the coming general elections. All this is assuming that the mammoth crowds at the ODM rally and their spheres of influence can be translated into votes on D-Day December 2007.

He then introduced Kalonzo Musyoka who immediately ran into problems as he was drowned out by shouts of "Nyundo" most of which were coming from the front section of the crowd.

Kangema Constituency Countdown To Elections 2007: Youthful Michuki Challenger Harassed By Police
archive
Is This A Sign Of Things To Come?
I have often said in this blog that the older generation of Kenyan politicians only knows how to play dirty in politics and sadly you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. The drama that is unfolding in Kangema Constituency, is a perfect illustration of this.
My heart goes out to Paul Kimani Mugo of Kangema. The 32-year old Nairobi businessman is really feeling the heat of "daring to oppose" the powerful Minister whose docket is internal security. Internal security incase you did not know, includes the police, although it is a well known fact that the Police commissioner Maj General Mohamed Hussein Ali and his boss don't see eye to eye (the latest spat between the two is over what the Minister told his constituents is police harassment under the pretext of smoking out Mungiki suspects—something that is not news to Kumekucha readers). Still, as the infamous raid on Standard newspapers proved, the Minister can bypass the commissioner and give direct orders to policemen at any time he wishes to do so.
Three weeks ago, young Mugo was arrested by police officers on the streets of Nairobi. The policemen had trailed him all the way from Kangema. Mugo was locked up for two days. The charge police were pursuing? You will not believe it. Careless driving.
In the first place it is strange for somebody to be locked up for a traffic offence after being arrested by plain-clothes policemen who most probably were attached to the CID. And then it is also very rare for people to get locked up for traffic offences.
Obviously there was no complainant (apart from probably the officers and maybe the Minister himself). The ordeal only ended when Mugo's family had the sense to hire a lawyer. Still, the last time Kumekucha checked Mugo is still following a police order to report to a city police station daily (what a brilliant way to keep an eye on your political opponent while intimidating them at the same time).
However what is exciting voters in Kangema who see the possibility of a giant-killing feat at the constituency, is the fact that over 60 per cent of the population at the constituency can be classified as "youths." I wonder if any IDs were being issued to youngsters at the constituency during the voter registration period—which ends tomorrow. Mr Mugo comes from a very humble background in Rwathia village within the constituency.
What probably irked the Internal security minister the most is the fact that young Mugo has often been heard describing him to constituents as a "brutal person" (ta nyamu for our Kikuyu speakers). And of course the fact that the aspirant has struck a chord and excited many constituents with his promises to tackle head-on the main problems on the ground including poor payments to coffee and tea farmers. Mugo himself hails from a tea-growing zone.

Congratulations to all you good people from Kumekucha. Thank you for caring and thinking about your fellow Kenyans.
In order to always keep my hand on the pulse of the Nation, I usually ensure that I receive regular news dispatches wherever I happened to be at any particular time. A report on the major news items on Nation TV last night distressed me so much that somebody who was with me at the time asked me why I was so upset.
Two women in Ukunda area, Mombasa were robbed by a gang carrying crude weapons, asked to carry the household goods into the bushes by the thugs and then violently raped. In the same news bulletin there was the touching story of a young mentally-challenged girl in Kibera who was raped on her way from church recently.
Interestingly in the Ukunda case the police commissioner Major General Mohamed Hussein Ali was quick (too quick) to rule out the suspicions that the raid may have been a Mungiki operation.
The saddest thing about violent crime is that it is women who suffer most and bear the brunt. Assuming that all the escalating violence we are seeing in Kenya today is not in any way related to violence my simple question is why does it always happen in the run up to an election since the year 1991?
The reason why I was so upset (and every Kenyan should be) is the fact that nothing is being done to counter these crimes which have become "normal". While it is abundantly clear that the time has come for Kenyans to think out of the box and seek new solutions to these problems, we have a political class bankrupt of ideas who are just keen on retaining power (some of them are well past retirement age and already grandfathers many times over.)
As I publish the first results detailing the performance of our readers in our maiden campaign against politically instigated violence in Kenya, it is a good time to reflect on the general apathy Kenyans have towards doing anything to improve their political environment and especially in demanding good governance from our leaders. It is one of the main reasons why we are in the current crisis that we are facing.
The biiter truth is that talk is cheap and most Kenyans worldwide prefer it to any tangible action. I take this opportunity to urge you all to take some action today. You may think what you are being asked to do is too little but the wise old African said kidogo kidgogo ujaza kibaba (little by little finally fills the till to overflowing).
The Kenyan who has topped our score sheet this week is Ritchie who lives and works in neighboring Tanzania.
