Can You Recognize Any Of These Mombasa Swimmers?

This unique photograph was brought to the attention of yours truly by a friend of Kumekucha. I’ve stared at it for a long time.

Extreme left Dr Njoroge Mungai close relative and personal physician to President Jomo Kenyatta. Also foreigh minister responsible for bringing major UN office to Nairobi which remains to date. On the dark side a member of the Kenyatta Kitchen cabinet when Mboya was assassinated. Next is Johnstone Kamau himself, better known to the world as Jomo Kenyatta. Next is Mwinga Chokwe from Mombasa, a one time speaker of the senate in those days. Extreme right, the man Kenya wants to forget but Kumekucha is refusing, Tom Mboya.

I wonder what would have happened if somebody would have stepped in from the future and described the chaotic Kenya of today. Would they have felt guilt, would it have changed anything?

It is difficult to estimate exactly when this photo was taken, but my guess is that it was taken shortly before independence in 1963.

  1. May they RIP (R=rot). At the risk of being branded insensitive, the failure by at least 75% to lay a firm foundation for our motherland lies squarely with them.

Makes you think, why is mother nature so kind to scoundrels and nasty to nice people. Before you scream just spare a thought for the child dying from pangs of hunger. And there we are shamelessly bandying academic epithets that inequality doesn't exist in Kenya.

Vikii will tell you (on this one he chose not to) that inequality is simply bias. Once biased no inference is valid, internal or external. So tell me when you want to make decisions (inference) in a biased set up which you conviniently ignore. Akin to building a plastic bungalow, ehe?

Spare sister sue the tirade lest she dismisses all of you with a wave of hand. Egos are fragile sneak smartly to cloud your jugdemen. It is one thing to sound ideal and physophize but messaging the truth of inequality can't wash. Yes, each country have their fair share of the rich families or famous to be POLITICALLY CORRECT. But is that enough reason to overlook the unfair advantage their take over other ordinary mortals. Rake your brains chaps and give and honest answer to yourselves. Only fools don't cha ge their minds and since none of you is, I don't need the answer. Greet weekend Kenyans

NB: BW Vikii, in moderation please, not too much. BB is dutifully watching and can only warn that the resultant fun is both a curse and a blessing. Take your pick.

  2. I think I've stared at this pic longer than anything before. It was probably taken between '65 and '68. To me, it represents a time of great opportunity, a chance to make Kenya a great nation...a chance to make history; an opportunity to make the dreams of a young nation come true. The men in this picture had that chance.

    What happened?
