Is there a link between the Strengthening Kenyan Shilling And Mungiki Violence?

archive

In recent weeks as the Mungiki violence has escalated, so has the value of the Kenyan shilling. The Kenyan shillings has strengthened remarkably and is now firmly between the Kshs 65 and Kshs 66 band against the American dollar.

I can’t help thinking that there could be a link. To start with it has already been established that the killings are linked to politics. By the way yesterday there were more beheadings when a Matatu was hijacked by Mungiki in Maragua. It was the driver who lost his head). Golly, this is beginning to sound like another Baghdad, is it not? I think the president should look for a new internal security minister, John Michuki looks like he’s drowning… in the blood of innocent Kenyans.

Anyway, we already know that just now there is a lot of political activity in the country and quite a few people are taking advantage of a weak laid back president to do all sorts of crazy things. A lot of this activity involves huge funds. We have also seen the Nairobi stock exchange index fall dramatically, which would suggest that there could have been a large amount of stocks cashed in. This is a brilliant way to keep campaign funds, is it not. Plug it into the stock exchange in 2003 when there was a very dramatic appreciation of share prices, and then dump them in 2007, taking a huge profit (the prices have fallen but not crashed because there were many new genuine investors who were attracted into the bourse in 2003.)

Now could it be that whoever is funding Mungiki is bringing in their cash from their secret accounts abroad? Cashing in dollars in large quantities would have the effect of weakening the green buck in this market. Is this what is happening?

And then we hear that Kanu has called an extra-ordinary delegates conference and rumours are flying all over the place that they are going to make a big announcement. I am not accusing anybody but I can’t help thinking that these events may just be linked in some way.

I concur with the reader who suggested here that this Mungiki thing is adversely affecting Narc-Kenya the most, which is confusing because all the people who have been linked to Mungiki in the past are Narc-Kenya. But then it has been said that Mungiki are for hire and so it would appear that a new master has hired them.

Yours truly is keeping his ear very much on the ground and will keep you informed.

  1. My question remains 'why the indifference and loud silence on this Mungiki thing'? Silence only succeeds in preparing a fertile ground for rumours, the anchor for chaos. Man forget about the delat kidnappings at least they demand ransom and free their hostages. Ours if the African Baghdad pure and simple. All the objective apologies wont wash it boils down to some SUPERIORITY SIMPLEX. But who will save us from ourselves? Take your pick among the wolves and dinosaurs.
