Strange "Outer-space" Being Discovered In South Africa

These are eerie photographs (courtesy of The Huffington Post) of a strange animal found in South Africa recently. Really creepy aren't they?

What really is it? A being from outer space? Some "accident" from all the chemicals and abuse being visited upon our planet? The discovery has caused a lot of fear and all kinds of superstitious talk amongst Africans who are quick to look into the super natural for explanations to strange events, sightings and happenings.

The mystery has deepened with the explanation of some experts that it is a baby baboon that died and was carried around by the mother too long. It certainly does not look like a plausible explanation to anybody applying their intellect to these crazy crazy photographs.

Kenya Immigration Handles First Racist Complaint After Decades Of Ignoring Abuses

For ordinary Kenyans the immigration department has always been the guys who give out passports (albeit with great difficulty) Period. Those Kenyans who have travelled know that the immigration department in any country has got lots of other stuff to do.

Now the Kenyan immigration department has made history by summoning a senior director at East African Breweries over allegations of racism at the workplace. It is the very first time anything like this has happened.

For decades Indian and European immigrants (many of them arriving in the country penniless only to become overnight millionaires) have abused and harassed locals with abandon. The folks at immigration have always responded by promptly renewing the work permits of these abusers of human rights and even granting some of them citizenship illegally and at lightning speed.

Over the years I have only seen one case where a local took their revenge in their own way. The incident happened at a Ngong Road based company about 10 years ago. The watchman hatched a plot to get his revenge on his racist white European boss who never missed an opportunity to shout at him (always calling him a monkey who would be better off living in trees). He put his fresh feces in the water tank reserved for drinking on the property and then promptly resigned his position. The boss (and other senior mzungu managers at the company) drunk water spiced with his solid human waste for weeks before it was discovered where the "strange taste in the water" was coming from. But I digress.

On Tuesday this week the East African Breweries Finance director Tracey Barnes (pictured above) appeared before the Director of Immigrations and Registration of Persons to answer to allegations of mistreating and intimidating black Kenyans working in the company in favor of foreigners and whites. The kind of accusations that are strong enough grounds for the immediate revocation of a work permit if proven. The senior management at the majority foreign owned Brewery is populated with white South Africans. Read more about this fascinating first.

This is not the first time heavy handed white South African managers have found themselves in racial troubles in East Africa. In 2003 a full fledged fist fight erupted at Air Tanzania offices in Dar-es-salaam between local junior managers and white South African senior managers over claims of racism. This led to a careful reorganization of management personnel which included the appointment of a black South African figure-head CEO who in reality still answered to a white Financial director. This cooled down temperatures somewhat.

Incidentally Tanzanians are much less tolerant to racism than long suffering Kenyans and older Tanzanians even openly discriminate against whites at every opportunity in public. This may be difficult for somebody unfamiliar with the country to believe with the close cordial relationship between the two governments still firmly in place. In fact a white South African will always acquire a Tanzanian work permit much faster than a black Kenyan who will usually have to wait for months and give numerous bribes before getting the valuable document which in many cases is a license to print money in the impoverished nation filled with money-making opportunities.

Will Plain Cigarette Packaging Come To Kenya Soon?

Tobacco companies have been very effective in staying in the game despite the rising tide of anti-smoking campaigns all over the world. In their arsenal of effective weapons are clever ad campaigns and attractive packaging.

However, now it seems that things are set to change dramatically. Yesterday the UK became the first country in the EU to pass a law decreeing plain packaging for cigarettes. A similar law was passed in Australia 4 years ago and figures show that smoking rates have fallen in that country as a result. Cigarette companies insist that the drop in sales is as a result of tax hikes a view most observers do not concur with.

The UK law will come into effect in May 2016.

Will we see the same law in Kenya soon?

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says that tobacco kills nearly six million people every year globally. Over five million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use, whilst more than 600,000 are non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.

Mystery of Kiambu MCA Kidnap And James-Bond-Escape

Samuel Gitau Munene's (pictured) kidnap and escape story is straight out of some action thriller like James Bond or the famous 24 TV series.

The Kiambu Juja ward MCA vanished without trace for 8 long days. He was last seen in Juja but last Sunday was found in Naivasha at a place called Kinungi. He was incoherent, weak and injured. The little that was gathered from him on his way yo hospital was that he had been kidnapped and held for the entire time without food or water. He then somehow managed to escape by kicking open the boot of a moving car he was in and jumped onto the tarmac road. After a few metres his abductors noticed that he had escaped, stopped briefly and then sped away.

Police are now waiting for the MCA to be treated and to recover enough to answer their questions.

But even as the poor man recovers from what must have been a horrifying ordeal, tongues are wagging and some loud-mouthed Kenyans are suggesting that his so-called kidnap ordeal was stage-managed. Other self-proclaimed experts are insisting that his story does not add up. No possible motives have been advanced as to why an MCA would want to stage-manage their own kidnapping in such a horrifying ordeal complete with serious injury to themselves.

Still there are a few facts that can be established thus far;

* The condition in which the MCA was found including serious injuries contradicts the theory that the kidnap was stage managed.

* When it comes to survival humans have been known to go to great and usually unbelievable lengths to survive.

* Kiambu county is one of leading counties in the entire country when it comes to serious crimes like kidnaps and murders.

* Many Kiambu constituents greatly fear some of their own leaders some of whom have in the past been linked to organized crime and drug trafficking.

Taking all these facts into account, it is highly unlikely that anybody stage managed anything and it is much more plausible that the MCA was indeed kidnapped. It is highly likely that the whole incident was linked to politics. It is also most probable according to security experts I have talked to that the abductors did not want to murder but were rather more interested in scaring the MCA for reasons that are still unknown.

Nairobi Water Services Have Been Taken Over By Drug Cartels, Says Kidero

Image result for Evans Kidero
In his most daring and controversial public statement ever Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero (pictured) has claimed that some un-named people connected to the illegal drug trade have taken over the provision of services that are the meant to be run by the county government.

The statement may have been spurred by the fact that the Nairobi governor is currently under intense pressure from his critics over corruption allegations linked to him. Among his harshest critics is Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, who has accused him of misappropriation of funds at the Nairobi County Government and also failing to fulfill his election pledges.
