Skirmishes In Naivasha: Latest Update

I talked to my people on the ground this morning at 6am and I could hear gunshots over tha phone. They are fine though. Till now (its now 9.20am) bado there are gunshots.

Guys are still burning other people's things. I have been told that they are taking the things outside the houses and burning them. Already two of my friends houses are down.

A police friend just told me that things are very bad ... and the fightings are spreading further into tha rural areas like a place called Kongoni (the place is in the south past the lake). Here there are many from the west and its confirmed its the Mungiki. He could not give me much info, its like he was running, he said he will call back ... will update you.

  1. The fatalities in Naivasha are against Luos. Including 19 who were burnt to death in a shanty.

  2. I am watching with dismay these developments in Kenya and I am also disappointed that the 'men at the top' can do nothing else than just throwing accusations at each other.

Besides, Annan is not the right man to put any sense into their heads. He has been too long 'out of Africa' and has lost the African touch as he has proved when being Head of the UN - not only with regard to the Rwanda crisis but also regarding Darfur and the Congo. He was always more interested to listen to the US, British, EU, Russia and China Governments than to the needs of Africa.

And I also fear that everything proposed by an outsider, will be rejected by the Kenyan People - half of them (since almost the same amount voted for Kibaki like the other half voted for Ondinga) will always want to see 'their' candidate at the top.

So I come to the conclusion that it is these two who have to find the solution - and only them together with some non-political chiefs of each tribe to demonstrate that Kenya is ONE .... and not the property and playground (and now even the killingfield) of a few, no matter to which tribe they belong.

If this does not work during the next few days, I would suggest that somebody starts destroying or at least damaging the properties of these two. Like Kibaki's farm and house in Othaya and Odinga's Molasses Plant in Kisumu .... but without having to kill or injure people.

Just give them a lesson how it feels to loose their own properties.

And then also continue with the private properties of Moi, Ruto, Uhuru, Kalonzo, Saitoti, and all the others .......

I am sure if they are hurt themselves and not like right now 'only' the poor, it will finally let them realize what this is all about:

It's not about power and political influence, not about ' how to increase their anyway filled pockets'......

It's about the fate and future of those who have trusted and elected them .... it's about building a Kenya in which ALL can live in peace.

But I fear that those who should read and hear this have closed their eyes and ears already.....

Otherwise they would have heard the screaming of injured and dying women, men and children during these last weeks .... it should have kept them awake day and night ..... it should have told them that they are responsible for all this misery in their country.

So maybe there is only one way left.... as I said before: go and destroy their own properties, their own houses ... their own farms .... and you will see how fast they become 'sensitive to the needs of the people of Kenya ..... i.e. to their own needs.....

That - I am sorry to say this - is for me the only way out of this present situation and not some 'roundtable' talks with Annan and all the other 'mediators' who should first put their own countries in order before teaching these two Kenyan 'leaders' what to do.

  3. The crisis here on the ground has taken a new turn.
What I am reporting here right now is what I have personally witnessed in Nakuru, Naivasha & other parts of the country.
Has anybody wondered why it has taken Kikuyu’s so long to retaliate for deaths of there own in Rift valley? Strategy.
First, to make sure that all the Kikuyu’s in rift & Nyanza are in safer grounds.
Attack strategies are very well planned as we speak. Yesterday (Sunday 27th) I witnessed a fund Raiser in Limuru where more than 7.5 million shillings was raised to fund the attacks against Luo’s & Kale’s. In this meeting (posed as helping the displaced) everybody including women & religious leaders agreed that Revenge was a must and that they could never let the kale’s (who sold most of there land to Kikuyu’s ) have it back for free.
Elderly men were seen sharing their Mau Mau experiences with the youths whom they asked not to let them down. After the meeting the youths were seen demonstrating chanting “ RUTO MUST DIE
What happened yesterday in Naivasha (where more than 15 people were killed) was just “testing the waters”. To see how the rest of the country will react. And it worked well coz Monday morning violence erupted afresh in kisumu & rift valley.
Unless something is done (I don’t have an ideal what) things are going to get much worse.
The message from the displaced camping at Kamirithu in Limuru and in Nakuru is that they had been warned of attacks even before the elections. A such to them the violence in Rift valley had nothing to do with elections. To them even if Raila had won the attacks would have been there. The displaced also claimed that the attackers were being paid sh.500 for every house they torch & sh.1000 for every Kikuyu they kill and a share of the land left by the Kikuyu’s
I strongly advice any one with relative in the following areas to ask them to take great care: Limuru, Ruiru, THIKA, Nyahururu, Kiambu, parts of Nairobi Nakuru, Narok (there are plans to ferry youths there coz it’s not far from naivasha) & other parts of the central.
Are you part of the problem or solution.

  4. Breaking New in the German Television:

Two Germans (one a businessman living in Kenya and a friend who visited him) were hacked to death when rioters followed them into their holiday resort 5 miles south of Mombasa, overran the sercurity and followed them into their house where after some resistance, they were hacked to death ......

This is bringing the whole matter to a totally new dimension since it is not anymore a tribal issue but an obvious demonstration that certain criminals have now entered the scene.

As the BBC outlined, it looks like there are organized crime gangs now participating - on both sides, both out to discriminte the other.

  5. Helloo, you got this prediction wrong before, and it looks like you are getting it wrong again. I think the election of Raila in Lang'ata will survive the governments petition by proxy. Plus, mungiki are already alienating western communities from the government and in the event of a re-election, seems like only mungiki allies will want to vote with Livondo.

  8. Kumekucha:

What do you consider the odds of the violence spreading to Nairobi in a way where the 'government' will have no alternative but to deploy the army and civil war more or less breaking out. It seems Limuru and Kiambu has laready fallen under the violence. In fact, the only way out of Nairobi is Magadi?

Please be sincere and let's avoid any incitement.

Thanks in advance for all opinions. This is my last post.

  9. oh how we analyse naivasha and nakuru?how come we dont do the same for molo, kuresoi, timboroa, burnt forest, kipkellion, kapsabet etc etc.is the death of kikuyus that much less important?is it a non-issue?were the children who were burnt to death in eldoret less humans than the kids in that naivasha house?Even the politicians.Anyang was horrified at naivasha and nakuru.not so,for kipkellion molo timboroa which also flared up over the weekend.or for the priest in kapsabet.
My heart bleeds with every death.especially the children, who dont even know yet what tribe they belong to.
Buts lets not be that inhumanely partial.
