Phew, Kibaki Was Not On Shortlist Of Mo Ibhrahim Award

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation prize committee has moved quickly to dispel press reports that former President Mwai Kibaki was a front runner for the annual Mo Ibrahim Leadership award.

The panel blamed the media for misleading the public and went on to say while Kibaki was eligible for the prize, since he left office within the last three years, he had not met the requirements for winning the prize, which is based on an index that determines a leader’s performance in delivering good governance to the people.

This year the prize went to Namibia’s outgoing President Hifikepunye Pomamba, due to his focus in forging national cohesion and reconciliation and his ability to command the confidence and the trust of his people.
