Former Legislator David Mwenje Is Dead

The late David Mwenje

News just in is that former Embakasi legislator David Mwenje is dead.

Mwenje has been in hospital in the Intensive Care unit since early this year.

Signs that all was not well started to emerge when his children went to court to try and gain access to his bank accounts to pay his hospital bills and other mounting bills. Other creditors moved to court soon after.

It is not clear what exactly the former MP died from although there have been whispers for a long time now that he was HIV positive.

The late Mwenje once admitted involvement with the dreaded Jeshi La Mzee or Jeshi la Embakasi, a private army he created and used to harass his political enemies.

Mwenje who was fairly short in stature, will be remembered as one of the most violent politicians to hold a parliamentary seat within Nairobi. In one incident in January 2001 he physically fought in parliament with fellow MP Otieno Kajwang and was badly bitten in the back by Kajwang.

Interestingly Mwenje's name had also come up in a list of possible suspects behind the death of the slain Embakasi MP who won the seat from him, Melitus Were. He was however never questioned by police over the matter.

More details to follow later.

Last year when Mwenje was still appearing on TV he was looking a bit greyish and sickly. The whispers about his status were rather loud for some time. We're brought up to feel badly and mourn when people die but for some of these leaders that is just difficult. Some of these people can only be stopped by the grim reaper. Let's see who is next. Bye Mwenje.

This is what these grumpy, greedy, old men trying to hold Kenya hostage need to realize, that on earth, goodwill and goodworks must truly be our own. Our time is punctuated. They need to be considerate and think of the greater good. To them the word "Legacy" is non-existent.
Fare thee well Mwenje, time to meet the Maker.

I seriously don't know how this guy's gonna be remembered as what???

Adios Raton!

Right Akalla. It is actually terribly uncouth to talk ill of the dead…but sometimes it's very difficult to conform to that proposition. Here we are today expected to mourn a man who has delivered the pain of death to many households. While the epitaph on his grave stone will exclude the tag 'warlord' many will remember him as the knight and shinning armor of darkness.

I would prefer if Kenyans rushed into the streets to celebrate the promotion-to-hell of this vicious character. Only then would leaders like Nyachae Chinkororo and Uhuru Mungiki reexamine themselves with an unobstructed focus on their legacies. People like Waruinge might actually seek redemption after witnessing the celebrations at the pubs in Embakasi.

The way I see it, Mwenje deserves no tears or roses on his grave. I do not wish to cause pain to his family but if they never attempted to drag him, kicking and screaming, to church with the sole intention of having the thug rebuke his past ways of violence and maiming, then they too are a problem for Kenya.

Before you throw aimless barbs, ask your honest selves one question; Will you celebrate when Satan himself dies??

Death is the singular universal EQUALIZER. But while on it why so selective. Leaves you wondering where is one smart death laser guided to the right quarters when a country needs one? Maybe it is rehearsing and soon, VERY SOON death will save Kenya from all the turmoil. Not sadistic nor minimalist but just wishing.

Fastbreak said...

Kalamari and Akala, yes painful to lose life, but Mwenje caused more damage to peoples lives. He will not be remembered for any good deeds.
This just reinforces the point someone once made that the habit of making rosy eulogies and speaking all niceties at people's funerals is complete denial.
Rest In Peace Mwenje, but we Rest even better without you around.

It's what people say about you after you depart that will determine you destiny, and I guess majority have nothing good to to say about Mwenje.

I wonder if these guys would say the same things they are saying if Ntimama, Fred Gumo, Henry Kosgey, Ruto or Otieno Kajwang were to die.

Bad Blad. God to forgive him.

Taabu, it seems to me that you are not only the bringer of bad pessimistic news on top of being the 'prophet of doom'; from your comment, you are also a very astute wisher of bad things. It's one thing to dance on the body of a wicked dead man but casting a spell on wicked living men is truly use of excessive force.

Something must be said about a country whose citizenry long for deliverance through death.

Do you find it funny that South Africa, a country of many sexually rapacious men and violent criminals, has just lifted its travel advisory that warned it's citizens against flying into Kenya.

Do you see where Kibaki has led us?

Mwenje was a pointless and nasty politician. An embittered little man who used violence to divert attention from his failings. In death as in life, he will remain a figure of derision.

anon @1.54

Kenya is as dangerous a place as South Africa, probably more so. There is no doubt that since December 28(or thereabout) Kenya was worse than SA by far.

Mwenje was one of the people that gave Kenya a bad name through politically motivated insecurity that then gave rise to general insecurity.

It is unfortunate that people such as Mwenje have died without ever facing any prosecution for their role or connections to various gangs. I would rather he lived and was thrown in jail for his misdeeds. That would serve as a better lesson to other miscreants pretending to be leaders.

Anon @1:57PM: Instead of screaming here about the atrocities you've seen or know about, why don't you send it to the international media? You are wasting valuable timing waiting to get info posted and asking certain people to write to Kibaki. Why can't you do it (anonymously or using an alias if you are afraid) since you have first hand information? If you're trying to save lives and avert another crisis, you need to act fast and act smart! God speed!

I am just thinking....Is it payback time....Norman Mapengo Nyagah, Maina Kamanda, Beth Mugo, Stanley Livondo, David Mwenje this people vowed that they will work hard and enusre that one Raila Amolo Odinga (The people's president and now also the people's Prime Minister..Mpende msipende) looses the Langata seat little did they know. Mapengo i hear was defeated hands down that even if elections were called today he will not even garner 100 votes, Maina Kamanda - past tense i hear is right now writting minutes in Mungiki meetings i hope he will use his pension well and maybe just go to a secretarial college, i wonder if he has an O-level certificate, if not he can enroll as a private student in mangu and will be able to get his A's come next year, Stanley Livondo huyo hata hatuna words,,beaten hands down (needs to go back to baby class to be taught sentence construction before we ship him to Mangu) Mwenje's file has just been called up ...let him meet His Maker where he will give an account of everything that he ever did in his life time...It is the day of reckoning.....Kenyans your redemption draws nigh...those who are ruling with an iron fist thinking that the destiny of kenya is in their hands will be in for a rude shock!!!!!!

I cant bring myself to speak ill of dead mwenje.....in all honesty the guy did provide a lot of comedy for me everytime he opened his mouth. thank goodness for the redykyulass group as they then were, their dramatization of the kajwang-mwenje incident is priceless!!

i will also not forget how he used to demand cabinet and other positions on account of his being the mp voted by the largest number of constituents-of course no one ever listened to his demands but i thought his blackmail was quite funny.

thats how i choose to remember mwenje.

Let me be the first to point out that unless you have been living in a hole…David Mwenje did a lot his constituency the 15 years he was an MP. I mean here is a man who could have lived anywhere he wanted in Nairobi. From the plush Runda to the manicured lawns in lavington ..but mwenje chose to say in he heart of his constituency with the ordinary people. His home was accessible to each and every person in need. So before you go speak ill of the dead.. Tell me what Raila has done for Langata all these years ?????It's so disgusting that this forum is ruled by a bunch of people obsessed with Raila and yet if they are asked what Raila has done for anybody they are MUTE. I would challenge all you fitly excuses of human beings to your homework before you open your foul mouths to yap aimlessly . Mwenje..R.I.P

Anon@6:42Am....I really detest people as ignorant as you.."What has Raila done for Langata?" Ask "duly elected" and his ilk the same question. Doesn't the buck stop with him? Government is there to create an environment where people can prosper. What has the government of the day done to elevate the down trodden of the Kenyan society? Ask yourself, has MK done that? Level the playing field then comeback with that argument, ask Kib & his cronies to bring back all that looted dough stashed in foreign bank accounts, may be then can we have a reasonable exchange of notions.

Stupid people like you need to stop stoking fires by writing inflammatory comments. Everybody knows Mwenje has been hospitalised for a long time, how then would it be possible for him to be questioned in a murder he conceivably couldnt have been part of unless he had divine powers in his comatose state. Stop writing this gutter nonsense.

@6.59..you are nothing but a belligerent Idiot. Continue cursing Kibaki and his cronies out. meanwhile RAILA is having drinks with Jimmy Kibaki and lunch with Martha Karua..they are all getting along and working together to better our nation as you continue flogging the dead horse LOL

A gov must be responsible for developing all the regions.

It is stupid to ask what Raila or any MP has done to a region. They can only develop a constituency, if they steal.

Mwenje was a thief and a thug, a Mungiki and a devil. He opted to stay in the shunty because that is where he belonged, mentally. In Karen you need to speak abit of English. Who else could have controlled Mungiki and the thugs, if he stayed in Muthaiga? Bad blood! Repent! People from Mt Kenya.

But as Christians, let's forgive him, let's pray for him.

@10.09
Raila has always longed to unite Kenyans. But the Mafias have always wanted to divide Kenyans, so that they can indulge in corruption (ECK, KCSE,ANGLO,etc) and tribalism.

What's wron in meeting Jimmy? Raila told him to think positive and not like his mother and father.

I think as Kenyans we tend to be as bad as the leaders we elect. we are hypocrites! It is common knowledge that Mwenje did more harm as a leader than good. yet we try to out do each other in praise of his "good leadership & patriotism." All that seem to come to mind at the mention of his mame is Kamjesh, Mungiki, land grabbing and fighting (physically) off his competitors. I mean, the people of Embakasi needed roads (he grabbed them), better housing (he created slums for his votes), sanitation (dandora reeks!), employment (Our youth idle away their youth) and bussiness-friendly environment (Mungiki rivals KRA in tax collection). all the people wanted was to go about their lives with some dignity! he did nothing for us. So why dignify his death? he was a self seeking, greedy leader whose death was long overdue! I refuse to mourn this man's death!

Pesa, pombe, siasa na wanawake... (he should have listened to the song!)
