According to polls carried out this evening on 2 local TV channels NTV and KTN where viewers were asked the question; “Do you think that the general elections will be rigged?” most Kenyans (over 50% on NTV) believe that the 2007 general elections will be rigged.
In fact the KTN poll had 78% of the respondents saying that they believed the polls will be rigged!!!
Let us not split hairs here. In this case the fact of the matter either way is irrelevant what matters is perception (what the public thinks). It seems that all the things the Kibaki administration has been doing like arrogantly appointing ECK commissioners without consulting the opposition have not gone unnoticed by the public.
In my view this is a national crisis, coming barely 7 weeks to the polls.

FRom what I have observed, Most ODM supporters watch KTN News and buy The Standard Newspaper. Thats why KTN had such a big percentage(78%). Anyway, these guys when they where in parliament should have made the gentleman agreement IPPG to be Law. Why wait when elections is around the corner to complain. The President is acting within the Law.
ReplyDeleteBut when I look at ODM bandwagon, I don't see angels in this. Look at How Raila cronies frustrated Kalonzo before they parted ways on the election issue. And how about appointing Justice Kwach to lead the ODM election board knowing very well Justice Kwach was caught on camera doing corrupt deals and that is why he was axed from judiciary when NARC came into power. They guy choose to resign instead of facing the commission to defend himself because the evidence was to incriminating. Now imagine is Raila was in Kibaki shoes. Wouldn't he be worse off?
