Nation Sex-Scandal Must Now Be Viewed In New Light

There are those readers who have argued convincingly here that the way in which the alleged Nation sex scandal has been exposed is wrong and unfair to those who stand accused, and especially their immediate families.

However after the recent developments and the arrest and harassment of former nation crime editor Stephen Muiruri, the whole saga must now be viewed in new light. It is now clear that the real issue here is a fight to protect Kenyans from the power and influence of the ruling class who apparently gloat at their breakfast tables every morning as Kenyans religiously read only what they (the rich, powerful and influential ruling class) have authorized for publication and nothing more.

Recently we have for instance exposed in this blog what really happened during a recent hijacking of a Coastbus headed to Mombasa at Emali, and the rape and harassment that followed as told to us by an eyewitness who went through the whole terrifying ordeal. Why did we not read this story in our trusted daily newspapers or see it on TV? Surely the mainstream media has much more resources and expertise to cover such an incident than this small under-staffed blog?

Yet the view taken by most Kenyans on this issue of exposing the truth at all costs is really not new. When Dedan Kimathi and the Mau Mau were fighting the colonial government in the forests, there are those indigenous Kenyans whose view was that these were just dangerous thugs and killers. Some view those who would want to expose the truth, including this blogger in a similar manner, yet the war is the same because the people who came into power after that gallant fight were actually the home guards who aided the colonials in ruthlessly crashing that rebellion. And like the masters of their fathers and grandfathers, today these sons of homeguards are keen on ensuring that only what they authorize for publication is published.

For this reason, this blogger has resolved to ensure that as far as possible, no views and comments by readers in this blog will be deleted, no matter how radical and unpalatable they are. No issue no matter how sensitive will escape publication here. The last thing I want to do is follow the route that our mainstream media has followed into self-censorship.

  1. You don't smash the mirror for lying except revealing the ugly face that is a reflection of your true self. The media is this mirror reflecting the dirty and juicy part of our society. To hate and threaten the fourth estate is akin to enntertaining the farce that information can be bottled.

Ours is a classic case of information-generational clash. We are ruled by dinosaurs whose pride is premised on the good old days albeit irrelevant 1960s. The biblical dage of bottling new wine in old winskins couldn't be more apt in capturing our delicate political predicament. The media must be left to do what they are meant to do best, report without recource to self-censorship.

Chris, I still insist on my suggestion that we go an extra mile from whining by launching 1000 petion to the governement to leave scribes do their work unhindered. It may sould naive but believe you me, the big shots log in to Kumekucha every morning and who knows, they may just realize the folly of fighting the innocent pen. Over to you, what do you have to say?

  2. Chris, dont delete or regulate public opinion. we are all invited in a public forum and we should expose the infidels, sex pests and the management of the Nation Media Group.
They are thicker, I think that the Form Six dropouts that they are running a newspaper.
They are moronic, cad, and a bunch of imbeciles. Why should they sunbject Stephen Muriuri to such kind of shame and humiliation.
Joseph Odindo has a kid with a small girl called Nelly and people know it. He was the same man who was found in the basement of Nation Centre having sex in the car. Was Muiruri the one who took him to the car or who exposed it.
Chris, dont regulate a public forum. Everybody is invited including Odindo to air his views. Shame on Odindo. Muiruri is not the author of those letters, after all Macharia Gaitho is the one who started the chain of fowarding the letter. Why dont you people hold him responsible.
Are they drunk of inter-office sex.
    Resign or own up. Slugs

    How very true Mr Chris.

The sad reality in Kenya is that we are still being ruled by the children of colonial collaborators. They occupy powerful political offices and hold firmly the wealth of our country in their treacherous hands. They are the masters of our economy, the land grabbers and lords of corruption.

Let the truth be told....Mzee Kenyatta facilitated this tragedy.

Let other Kenyans like Chris, willing to stand up for the truth take heart. I beleive the day of reckoning will still dawn in this country, when the ordinary Kenyan people will rise up and take back their country from these criminals.

  5. I also concur with Taabu that something needs to be done. However I have 2 quick questions.

    1. Is it more effective to petition the government to investigate the Nation sex allegations or should the petition be to the govt. to leave the press alone? I ask this because the immediate threat are the guys at the Nation.

    2. Technically what is the best way of getting 1,000 signatures online?

I have my own ideas but let's hear what others have to say about this first.

  6. The government gets a lot of tax from the Nation. Like KBL, the Nyeri clique that run the Nation will have their say anytime.
The best thing is the suggestion is to promote the local papers.

That is why the Nation did its best to kill the People. Nyeri vs Muranga.

At the uni people used to say 'Tuko Mapambano' I tell you, these sex pests should go.

I am sorry that journalists can be this bad to each other. I am feeling it for Muiruri

  7. Chris, those two questions are petinent in addressing the petion. One, desperate situations calls for desperate measures and knowing this govenement of see, hear, talk no evil the first option is the most sensible if not objective. But are we ready for the brick wall silence staring us in the face or do we start with a fire fighting chance to save the house before it is gutted down?

You know as I do that the cops won't investigate the Soddom and Gomora that is NMG and even if they were ordered to (I douubt by who, Ali?), they will only take advantage to line their pockets now that they have become the legal goons for hire at the right fee. As for the technicality you know better and it can be done. Need I say more? I bet not lest we join the whinning lot with no actions.

  8. Taabu, there is always a way to address such issues. I think the route the NMG guys took was the right one.
Chris, from what he has been taliking about know the story about the sex scandals at the NMG. They have been on for a long time and it was just one of the disasters waiting to happened.
Yes, Wangethi might be using Odindo to hit at Muiruri. But Odindo's fault is not that that he is clean in anything, as he might have been a good reporter during his days.
The thing is that we should use this fora to attack the evil that is the sex advantages that are applied by the NMG staff.
We can not sit back and watch a great profession going to waste thorugh means that cannot justify the nobility of the Fourth Estate.
Chris, this is the only forum. Not the government, and with people very powerful like the police commssioner now at the centre of the Muiruri plot.
In any case, the person investigating will be a former policeman who will be instructed by powers that run the kenyan government, and this is a great shame for them.

  9. When I suggested the boycott, I had in mind a couple of valid things.

Blogging, circulating e-mails, etc can't shake any of those maniacs. The Nation must be hurt where it will count and that is in sales and advertising before any one in there realises the seriousness of the issues raised.

    Reasons for a Nation boycott:

Allegations of corruption which has crippled the country. If they must report on such issues, they must allow scrutiny and investigations of the alleged corruption...it is an insult to the intelligence of Kenyans for NMG to wish this expose away.

Second reason for a Nation boycott is the abuse of women's rights. The arrogance displayed by some of those men in regard to their views on women is dispicable. Some of them think they are God's gift to women. The first demand is to have Oyunga Pala's column discontinued. His articles are degrading to women and Rhoda Orengo, being a woman caught up in the sex games for whatever reasons, is unable to recognize this. It is unacceptable that a paper that sells based on it's care for the country should view women as sex objects.

Third reason for a boycott is the abuse of human rights.I don't think I need to explain this.

That said, garnering names for a petition to boycott will not be hard. Just say the word. It must be done by us because the govt will not. They are busy exchanging favors with the top editors for favorable coverage.
