Coming Soon: The Grand Regency Hotel IPO.

As far as I'm concerned, yesterdays' newspapers should have carried headlines proclaiming Kenya's' victory against corruption. Yes folks, headlines such as; HAIL RINGERA, THE CORRUPTION KILLER!! or KACC BITES PASTOR PAUL. Fellas, the government of the duly elected president Mwai Kibaki has confiscated the luxurious, albeit unkempt, Grand Regency Hotel.

So why is nobody praising Ringera with shouts of jubilation as he basks in the glory of impounding the corruptly acquired Grand Regency? I can think of three reasons; (1) Kenya is currently too polarized to recognize any good from this chap. We would have probably seen grand headlines were his name Ali or Abdullah. (2) Kenyans are genetically preprogrammed to be conspiracy theorists. We all know that Ringera's effort, including the decade long court battle, is part of a vicious secret plan that comes full circle when TranCentury buys the over 2.1 billion shilling hotel from the government for about 200 million shillings. Oh yes, the plan was conceived even before Goldenberg happened. (3) Too little, too late.

Questions: Are we so determined to suppress anything marginally successful related to Kibaki and his PNU folk?

  3. What a joke!

The Mt Kenya people are never trustworthy, never. They are hyeanas. Yesterday they stole your money in the name of Safaricom-IP. One of them is now ready to buy Grand Regency with your money. Find out who is behind it.

  4. I’m returning to kumekucha after a break from politics and these silly idiots calling themselves leaders of Kenya. Kumekucha is doing a great job but I’m returning back to kumekucha just to disgracefully find that Chris, Taabu, Phil and many more are still exchanging blows with anonymuses. What a sorrowful thing. It is the same thing as Raila negotiating with a thief; an irrelevant faceless creature.

Come on Chris. Moderate these bastards. Put up issues that are worth reading or thinking of.

As for your post, should Moi take over I shall seek refuge in Tanzania or somewhere. Soon you will here Gedion Moi or his cousin or bhang-addict-uhuru said so and so. And we will post more post in kumekucha crying like children.

Aside from Moi’s burial, I don’t quite get and understand what other headline news should we expect from Moi.

Election or no election, Kibaki will perish in state house. I said this before and I will try again and see if it makes sense to somebody.

Do you all think Kibaki rigged 2007 election to just give away months later? He is not going anywhere. Figure out how to uproot him instead of thinking of another election.

Swallow the irritating nasty bill ladies and gentlemen. The writings were written on the wall long time ago. It was even written with blood.

    Read people.

this belated fight or mock foight against corruption is contained in the PNU field manual published several weeks back as part of smoke screen tactics to be deployed to clean up kibaki pnu image.

we still have the script, if you need to review it, let us know. it doesn't wash, sorry.

  8. I still don't understand the reason behind the handover done in a press conference. As far as I am concerned in past if one caught a thief you only needed to invite the press to show him/her properly harnessed with shackles. May be that is the new Kenyan style of handling a thief looking emaculate in a well trimmed Gucci imported suit.

  9. I find little glee in such inconsequential victories. I'll tell you why or lets just wonder. The Lawyers, the inquiries, the lives lost, the overall cost of Goldenberg Scandal? Nah, not to mention Ringera's Ksh 2mill salary. so, there, excuse me for not expressing jubilation.

  11. PUT IT IN WRITING AND HAVE SIGNATURES ON ON IT!

THERE IS A SAY, "IF IT IS NOT DOCUMENTED FOR HISTORY, IT DOES NOT EXIST, FULL STOP!"

IT MUST BE MANDATORY THAT ANY NEGOTIATION BETWEEN PNU, ODM AND THOSE PRESSURE COOKER FOREIGN POWERS BE DOCUMENTED! KENYANS MUST INSIST ON A WRITTEN DOCUMENT ABOUT WHAT THESE "SLICK ELITES" ARE TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE ORDINARY KENYANS ARE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY THE DECISIONS THEESE SELF SERVING ELITES ARE MAKING.

THE OUTCOME OF THESE NEGOTIATIONS WILL HAVE FAR REACHING EFFECTS ON (a) job creation and employment (b)education (c) health care availability (d) KENYA'S INTERNAL secruty (THERE TOO MANY MERCENERIES ON THE LOOSE IN KENYA).

THE YOUNG KENYANS WHO DO NOT WANT THEIR FUTURE TO BE DICTATED BY THESE FOREIGNERS HAVE TO START THINKING OUT OF THE BOX. KENYA WITH MUTUAL FOREIGN INFLUENCE IS MUCH BETTER THAN THAT DICTATED BY FOREIGNERS.

  12. IPOs are usually fund raising tools for companies. World economy is currently sinking into depression. Additionally, some companies in Kenya lost a lot of money during the election turmoil and may be trying to raise money from the public by offering IPOs to recoup the losses!

Kenyans must make sure they understand the reasons behind these IPOs. Else, these companies may be taking them to the cleaners!

  14. If this is the grand plan to deal with such corruption scandals as Goldenberg, Anglo Leasing, Ken Ren and Kroll then it is a futile one.

The Grand Regency is not enough. Kamlesh Pattni owes Kenyans billions.

On this note, remember there is an amnesty clause which has illegally been enacted in Section 25A of the Anti Corruption and Economic Crimes Act 2003.

Section 25A reintroduces the rejected idea of amnesty for corruption and economic crimes. Worse it goes ahead and allows the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission (KACC) in consultation with the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the Attorney General to give “undertakings” including to the subject of corruption investigations “not to institute or continue with investigations against any person suspected of an offence under this Act.”

This new clause helpfully creates a new defence for corruption suspects to use in avoiding the legal consequences of their crimes. The so-called undertakings contemplated in clause 25A amount to an unsolicited offer (to every corruption suspect) of an amnesty on the following conditions:
    • the suspect must make “a full and true disclosure of all material facts relating to past corruption and economic crime;”
    • the suspect must through the KACC pay, refund or deposit “any property or money irregularly obtained with interest at a rate prescribed by the Minister” for Justice and Constitutional Affairs;
    • the suspect must make reparation to any person affected by his corrupt conduct; and,
    • The suspect must pay for all loss of public property occasioned by his corrupt conduct.

Wait for an announcement that all investigations against Kamlesh Pattni have been dropped. Then the floodgates will open.

  15. Grand Regency is small change compared to the entire Goldenberg scam.Who has been pocketing the humongous profits from that hotel all these years?Who is pocketing from now on?
    Don't be fooled-nothing has changed?
Are you aware some whistle blowers(employees of the hotel) cannot get reinstated despite KACC and the Justice ministers intervention?-it was in the papers last week.
KACC are nuts...they waited for the thief to "return" what he stole from us,rather than nailing him first!
    Then Ringera takes credit-for what?
So what else has KACC been discussing with the big thieves?
Tomorrow Mobitelea will return the Safaricom shares they got for free, then KACC will shamelessly take the credit.

Who will save Kenya from this crap?

    Dj Rik.

  16. Kalamari wacha uongo!. Grand Regency is not worth 2.1 billion. Even with current rates, it still wont fika that amount readjust your figures. You see, while we get the idea behind the story, exaggeration of facts takes away the gist of your story. I know you are better than that so do us the favour next time.
