Report From Kakamega And Mombasa
I have just received the following two reports from Kumekuchans on the ground;
This first one I reproduce verbatim;
Hi kumekucha,
I have been following the latest stories of a chance of rigging in president Kibaki,
But the reaction here in Kakamega has started being violent with people chanting "Kibaki toka" and a fight between the police and the people, no business going on and the tension is very high as people follow the proceedings from KICC with more anxiety of the latest development.
Thats is what i can say for now.
Report from Mombasa
It is difficult to believe that the usually peaceful and quiet city of Mombasa has now degenerated into violence. A Kumekuchan on the ground (danlieve) informs me that he was caught in the city centre in widespread fracas and left the island on foot (he lives on the North Coast). For at least two hours there was no public transport operating anywhere in the city as riots have quickly spread across Kenya's second largest city.
The government's response to this is the usual (dealing with the symptom rather than the disease) my appeal to the President is that he acts quickly and averts disaster.
When a peaceful city like Mombasa has trouble...
