Kumekucha Comment Nomination: Most Solid Solution-Packed Comment Ever

I would like to nominate the following comment as the most solid solution-packed comment ever and quite timely too because it addresses a pressing Kenyan problem that needs to be dealt with immediately.

Without national healing, and not just for tribalism, but for corruption and other injustices against the Kenyan people, it will be virtually impossible for us to reach the promised land that we all crave so much, let alone have a real new beginning.

May the good Lord in all his mercies bring such a day to pass in Kenya.

Thank you Phil and congratulations;

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "The Kikuyu Question: The Way Forward":

Phil Says:

Thank you Chris for saying it as it is. Rather than have the Kukuyus jump start your proposed national healing, I would propose that:

a) the current constitution must be done away with in totality. Let us have a complete new one that will, among other things, have the executive powers devolved to parliament, judiciary and other offices. I will quickly add that Raila Odinga DOES NOT have to be Prime Minister or Vice President. This will demystify the Kenyan presidency once and for all. The current powers of the presidency are too much open to abuse as we have experienced since independence.

b) establishment of a truth and reconcilliation commission. This will not only give Kikuyu brethren an opportunity to repent and embrace the rest of Kenyans as you have suggested, but will also create a platform for individuals who may have committed political assasinations, high level corruption and other crimes against humanity to repent without fear of persecution.

  1. NO sober voter will and should vote for Raila Odinga. He is filled with so much hate and in all fairness, he seeks instant revenge.
If you can go back to the time that he defected from Kanu after being cheated of the presidency, something the Luos shouted their voices hoarse in 2001, he turned so badly against Moi that one could not believe that he was the same man who told an international press conference that 'I trust Moi. He is a changed man. And I think he is the best leaders for kenya'. The voting as it was, was one to get rid of a system that for 24 years had pillaged and mortgaged the country to its last coin.
    Vote Raila! NO

  2. It appears that Embu's and Meru's have been clustered in the same category as Kikuyu. Now that Chris has come out clear and believes Kikuyu's are the problem, well keep on inciting other tribes to get rid of them.

As per your assessment getting rid of GEMA will make Kenya a better country, Chris you have the power, like the Interahamwe use your blog to propagate ethnic hatred. Maybe then you will achieve your goals. (Mind you Hutu's killed their Tutsi's family members irregardless of family bonds) I'm afraid your wife would suffer similar fate!

If you know the genesis of the Rwandan Genocide you would not have published such a statements in your blog. Please grow up Chris. Watch out what you publish!

  3. This is a true one and for a laugh. I have lived in Canada for some time now and do call home alot.
Today, I called my mother in Siaya and the first thing she said was: "I hear Raila has bought a car that no Kikuyu has ever bought. But there is a rumour that the car was given by Obama. The car was being used by Obama and then he gave it to him".
This is the cheap lies that us Luos will go down in our lives with. My mother is educated, is a respected school teacher, now heading an international NGO in Kisumu (sponsored by Mellinda Gates-the name should ring a bell) but an aspirant in this year's elections went around Kisumu Bus Stand spreading cheap rumours.
I asked mum (she knows I hate the man) "What has the car got to do with the pay rise you got the other day. Or the plight of the farmers who threaten dad when the sugar cash delays"? She says, 'My son, everywhere you go, it is Hummer, Hummer and Hummer'.
'Mum, you are educated and a teacher who has taught in Alliance Girls and Moi School, Kabarak, its not good for you to go with the wind'.
She said: "But he is always using the Luos. The Kikuyu president has made changes. Anyway the ecenomoy is good, I have money in the bank, at least, my savings is not only in the co-operative nowadays. We even got out dairy cheque last week, and dad's paid most of the farmers in Muhoroni, imagine without a loan. We have even decided to keep the other portion of land that we intended to sell. WE are managing"
To pen it off, mum was satirical "Jakikuyu ni tiyo matek. Raila ne owacho in Tosha. En Tosha adier".
Over to the Luo leaders. Waol gi jokaodinga.

  5. If Raila was as bad and unworthy of leadership as some people claim in the above posts, then how come he is:-

    a) the only MP in multi-part democracy era, other than Ken Matiba, to have resigned his parlimentary seat voluntary and sought re-election on a different party, and WON?

    b) the only Kenyan MP, other than Prof. Wangari Maathai, to have won international democracy awards, not once but several times over.

    c) the only Kenyan MP to have been repeatedly invited to swearing-in ceremonies of several african presidents in his personal capacity

    d) the only Kenyan Party leader to have voluntarily wound up their own political party to join another for the sake of national unity. (Oh Why can Kibaki do the same to DP??)

    e) the only Kenyan MP whom Senator Obama officially visited their constituency

    f) the only Kenyan MP to have told-off former President Moi to his face. The only other I can remeber so far is Ken Matiba.

    g) the longest serving Kenyan MP of detention without trial at Kamiti, naivasha and shimo-la tewa maximu remand prisons, while the likes of Mungatana, were eating ice cream at school.

Having said that, Kibaki should have resigned the presidency by now, and run again on a NARC Kenya ticket if he were trully a man of the people. He should have by now honoured Wangari Maathai and Raila Odinga with more prestigious public posts as they have brought honour to this country.

That kind of hatred for Raila is only but retrogressive for the country. Criticise the fellow on the basis of his failures and shortcomings, but not ethnic origin.

  6. I think this blogger is wrong. Raila was detained because he was not fit to be among the rest of the kenyans. He wanted to kill and maim Rwanda style.Moi was right in detaining him.
His party-hopping antics and the fact that he only thinks about leading puts him aside.
Why should a popular leader be campaining for four years. Confused. After the Hummer? Mollasses? the first man to con a country of a factory???
