Nissan, one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers, traces its roots to 1933 when it was founded as the "Jidosha-Seizo Co. Ltd." in Japan. The company was initially a subsidiary of the holding company "Tobata Imono" but later rebranded to Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. after a series of mergers.
In its early years, Nissan focused on producing vehicles for the Japanese market, starting with small cars, trucks, and military vehicles during World War II. In the post-war years, Nissan became an important player in the global automotive industry, especially after it introduced the Datsun brand in the 1950s, known for producing affordable, compact cars.
In the 1970s, Nissan made its mark in the United States with the Datsun 240Z sports car, which gained significant popularity. Throughout the following decades, the company expanded its global presence, acquiring other brands like Renault in the 1990s, forming the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Today, Nissan is a major innovator in electric vehicles, with models like the Nissan Leaf being among the world’s best-selling electric cars.
