Political Semantics of Lean and Clean Cabinet

The national anxiety following failure to name a cabinet in the last week continues to produce interesting speculations. While ODM thought that it was pedalling MV moral in demanding LEAN cabinet, ingenious PNU is wondering why truncate C. PNU have thrown spanner into the works by counter-demanding a CLEAN cabinet.

No price for guessing whom PNU has their political guns blazing at. Trust Kenyan politicians to win with all letter permutations in service of expediency. They are simply playing clever deluding themselves that we ordinary mortals cannot see through their cheap schemes.

You cannot have your political cake and eat it. While ODM calculates to stealthily win the moral ground on numbers, PNU knows which card to knock for a guaranteed fall out in the opposite camp. In the process we remain the pawn shouting ourselves hoarse at their antics with the IDPs stopping harsh elements of the weather in their tattered tents. We are truly a man-eat-man society bereft of neither human feelings nor national priority.

Political jokers and forked lips
Ours is a country teaming with calculating politicians who speak with both sides of their mouths to give objective impressions than thinly masks their selfish intentions. If its not tribal balance clothed in politically correct term of face of Kenya, they readily revert to selective affirmative action. The so-called youth are no better. They have learnt fast when to use the tag for expediency too like when Ms Cecily Mbarire and her ilk want to call attention to their relevance in the
political pecking order.

Our shameless leaders take us for a mass of dunderheads. Annan had deal directly with Kibaki and Raila to get results after kicking out political gatekeepers. So who does Mutula Kilonzo thinks he is fooling by suggesting that the same mistrusting mediation team has the capacity to form a cabinet?
Kenya has degenerated into a country led by political jokers. The ensuing theatre of absurd leaves the abrasive and straight-talking COTU boss Francis Atwoli looking like an angel. He has promised to have the so-called two principals agree on a cabinet in less than three hours. His mediation offer will predictably be treated with utter contempt.

Kenya's key leaders are permanently held hostage by sectarian interests. These evil forces continuously pull in different direction and none of them is meant to benefit the country or its people. A nation whose leaders perennially fail to agree on anything is a geographical entity precariously held by threads of mistrust that will definitely snap at the slightest opportunity. It is simply a matter of when and not if.

  1. can PNU name the "clean" from their side first and lets put them all on the public spotlight.

after they come up with the three, then let ODM select the remaining 41 from 99

  5. IF KIBAKI AND RAILA ARE SCARED OF NAMING A CABINET BECAUSE OF DISAPPOINTING THEIR CRONIES THEN THEY SHOULD LET KENYANS DO IT!! WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR??? THEY ARE NOT ACTING AS LEADERS BUT SPOILT BRATS AND THEY EITHER NAME OR GET OUT OF THE WAY - WE HAVE MANY PEOPLE WHO CAN DO EXACTLY THAT AND IT WILL BE QUALIFICATION AND MERIT BASED- YOU WILL NOT HAVE A CHARCOAL DEALER HANDLING CONTROLLING THE STATE SECURITY OR A FINANCE MANAGER WITH LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF THE ECONOMY AND WORLD MARKETS AND WITH INTERESTS OF ONLY ENRICHING HIMSELF AND HIS CRONIES!!
LET THEM MOVE ASIDE AND WE WILL DO THE JOB!!

  6. Why don't the 17 ministers help out the president by resigning? They are all looking out for numero uno; their self!

  7. taabu, chris

you've done this many times before but take a look at taabu's closing paragraph

lets do away with the sweeping statements and generics

list the sectarian interests one by one, list the pulls in different direction one by one. then let kenyans decide which part of the divide they fall, and then figure out the way forward. time to bell the cat

  8. We cannot have a clean cabinet as both sides have tainted MPs. ODM has big chunk of MPs and former civil servants who were involved in scandals during the Moi/KANU regime. Goldberg and Anglo leasing cut both ways, PNU ministers in NARC government perpetuated Anglo leasing though most of them lost in the last general election.

ODM idea of lean cabinet of 34 is laughable, if they were talking of 18-25 Ministries they would at least make some sense. Their game plan is simply to ensure some PNU affiliated are shut out as Kibaki has exhausted his share, a strategic move to weaken Kalonzo and ODM-K.

ODM refusal to endorse the Safaricom IPO makes Kalonzo relevant, I am sure Kibaki would like to keep him happy in case ODM might try to paralyse government operations in future.

The other issue is whether the signed deal gave ODM Power to decide on the size of the cabinet, I thought the deal was sharing and the president had to consult PM on who was to be appointed from ODM. The president still has the powers to constitute the government as he remains the head of state and government.

  9. Ati make Kalonzo relevant? That is debatable for another day...By the way is he around?

PNU's clean govt will ensure even the president will fall by the wayside so asianze tafadhali.....PNU's list is full of shame on me, question their corrupt deals, Kiraitu, Kimunya, question their morals mwakwere wa Koinange, Karua wamugunda, mungiki, heh let us not mention names their....Shoot to kill order...Wacha tu...The only person i knew was clean was Kabando wa Kabando who has since been disqualified, maybe Imanyara and Noah Wekesa
So who remains....I cant judge ODM coz i dont know who is going to be given what...So wait and see

  10. Regarding a 'lean' Government, here is one proposal and since Raila because of his educational and personal background always leans to admire the Germans (as you may know he spent the major part of his studies in Germany and still speaks fluent German as he on various occasions demonstrated in giving interview on German TV):

Germany has about 3 times the inhabitants compared with Kenya - and only 'needs' 14 Ministries - and most surprising none of them has Assistant Ministers:

    These are:

    - Foreign Affairs
    - Interior
    - Justice
    - Finance
    - Economy and Technology
    - Labour and Social Affairs
    - Food, Agriculture + Consumer Protection
    - Defence
    - Family Affair, Senior Citizens, Women and Yough
    - Health
    - Transport, Building + Urban Affairs
    - Environment, Nature Conservation
    - Education and Research
    - Economic Cooorporation + Development

I know I am only 'dreaming' when I assume that also Kenya can take this example.

Because I can already hear all your protests about 'the West trying to influence - the West trying to impose their rules - the West ...... (and here I leave space to all of you to fill in....)

But just think a bit before judging 'the West'.....

  11. Since ODM continues to talk about a 'clean' Cabinet:

there is one man who has emerged to be one of the most trusted friends of Raila (he was the only one accompaying him to the - failed - talks last week.

The man I am talking about is Dalmas Otieno.

And believe me, he is not just a tainted man, but a really dirty one.

I never understood why Raila took him into his Team.

But if Raila wants to emerge clean in all this stinking dirty game of politics, he should get rid of this man.

Because I will expose him for what he is: a criminal and crook.

  12. Are you people following the Zimbabwe elections?

It is Kenya '07 deja vu. Down to the delay in releasing results.

48 hours later, only 12 parliamentary results have been released.

ZEC is supposedly being very "careful" to avoid errors.

    Hah!!! Wanaiba huko!

  13. Anon 3:20 - I fully agree - we have enough educated people to fill these slots and take over responsibilty. Thanks for giving this information. Let's see if and when one of our socalled leaders realize that it is not a bloated government which can lead us into a better future, but that it is choosing the right ones willing to take up the torch given to them by those millions of Kenyans trusting them. Let's see - although quite frankly, I have my doubts that our maximum leader(s) hear our plea. It seems that they have closed their eyes and ears since having been elected. It may be time to give them another lesson.

  14. Anon 4:01 - Can you expose Dalmas? I would like to hear the details. I believe he largely switched to ODM because that was the only way he was ever going to get back into Parliament and make any real money.

  15. I second all the sentiments about a lean cabinet and the fallacy of a "clean cabinet" as a condition precedent. Hefty demands coming from PNU. Now if only they would apply this condition to their team as well.

Anon @4:01 - please expose Dalmas. What are you waiting for? Don't wait till he's in the Cabinet then start whining about why he's there, how could he get appointed? Knowledge is power! Now that you know, what are you going to do about it?

  16. if it is about exposing - let us see!!
List of people I can expose fully and some documented-I worked in their 2007 elections and was very trusted - after which i was treated like shit!!
    Martha Karua
    Michiki
    Karume
    Muhoho
    Eddy
    kimuya(Finance-money in and out)
Kilonzo(what he was offered to leave ODM)
Uhuru (after he brought Kanu to PNU)
and much more from where-money come from- how and to who it was distributed to e.t.c
by the way all this money was government money!! get the drift!!!! some of us ordinary Kenyans can bring down kibaki if we choose to but for the sake of kenya- let us see how they plan to replace all that they took!!

  18. Anon @10:45 - if you're not going to give us facts, don't post sensational tidbits. I don't see how you're withholding info "for the sake of Kenya" when HARD EARNED tax payer funds were siphoned for non-budget purposes, thousands died and many more are sleeping in tents, etc. How is your silence helping Kenya??? Just curious, are you only pissed off because you didn't get hooked up after your "work"? If you had received a red carpet hook up and not the shit-list treatment, would you have said anything? You're talking about waiting to see if they'll replace those funds? If you're honestly waiting for that then you need a come to Jesus meeting.

Even if all your answers to the questions above are in the affirmative, do the right thing! For the love of Kenya or any other good reason you may/should have (I can think of several), tell KK or any reliable outlet what you know ASAP or spare us the soap opera-type snippets.

just toboa, no need for pandisa.

say or forever hold your peace and remain as guilty as they are. unless you are expecting someone to give you something either to keep quiet or spill the beans.

dont make sense, blow the whistle or throw it away, its your choice. plus don't kid yourself, no scandal will make these guys resign or hand over power
