Poor Sad Kenyans Nailed on the Cross

By KK Blogger

What a speedy ruinous transition from the most hopeful in the world to the saddest in under a decade? The true state of sad Kenya can only be traced to the own making of Kenyans themselves. They made the bed and must brace themselves to lie on it.

That Kenya is at crossroads is susch a remarkable paradox where human, material and achievements are celebrated irrespective of how have been acquired. The media are culpable in this context thriving on fanning emotions of the Kenyan people rather than promoting ethnic harmony. Secondly, leadership lacks direction whipping ethnic allegiance at the expense nationhood.

As revealed in a recent research, Kenyans are amongst the saddest which tells a million since majority are prone to depression worried about where the next meal would be coming from whilst those inciting us against each other worries the least about this. Majority of us lack the relaxed social contact and emotional satisfaction we need, we thrive on exploiting others to an extent where illegal drug lords are celebrated deemed as leaders.

How is it that we have created mental and emotional suffering manifested through corruption, land grabbing and exploitation the poor while at the same time keeping t the poor masses together as they follow ‘leaders’ blindly? The ilk of Ruto, Uhuru and Sonkos are the ones I have in mind. Whilst we struggle for psychological survival, we celebrate this people against the backdrop of stress and emotional exhaustion we are going through. But the truth is that they are lavishing themselves in extravagance at our expense while our children, siblings, families are dying of hunger, diseases not able to afford basic health care, least of all able to put food on the table.

These people are deeply ambivalent about our welfare or the state of affairs, rather are concerned about wealth, material gain and at the pinnacle this is how to protect what they have ‘acquired’ at all cost thus the hullabaloo about ‘time for youth leadership’. Incisive questions in this regard are whether this ‘bus’ offers any solutions to unemployment, drugs, crime , diseases and lack resources to jump start businesses or offering any vision for the future of Kenya with clear strategies. Hell no, the culture of impunity is what this promotes, with ‘me/my’ at centre of it all. The end result to all these is that we are bringing up children who will be celebrating drug lords, those with no respect to humanity , grabbers and in the long run perpetuating moral profligacy.

It is a pity that mainstream politics no longer taps on these issues and has abandoned the attempt to provide a shared vision capable of inspiring us to create a better society. As mainstream voters we have lost collective belief that that the society has bestowed upon us to shun such personalities for the sake of harmony in our midst. With this in mind it is possible to piece together intention of these ’Johny come lately’ politicians who personify dysfunction behaviour. If we spared a second in order to have a proper understanding of where these actions will take Kenya or transform politics and quality of life for all of us. This would change our experience of the world around us and change whom we support or vote in.

Instead of blaming the society, religion, values education, governance the responsibility is ours, resonating around our behaviour, culture and values. The buck therefore stops by the doorstep of the media, instead of promoting harmony in the society; they are constantly thriving in fanning animosity between different personalities an extension of divide between their communities. Positive stories/news that would help Kenyans celebrate their diversity positively are relegated to ‘less worthy stories’ as opposed tribal warlords galvanising their tribes to fight their personal wars.

This decay will result in a generation lacking vision, direction or future that which celebrates thugs, Mungikis, drug lords and proponents of widening the gap between the poor and rich or just society and broken society.

But again aren't we an enterprising lot and the envy of many neighbours? Surely the road to self destruction must be immaculately paved with golden pebbles. Ours is akin to marvelling at the beauty of every floor on our way down oblivious of the hard pavement waiting to split our collective skulls.

Africa's Curse of Eternal Slavery Inside the Box

By EMK

Blogger Mwarang'ethe has been raising here some thought-provoking questions relating the present and past POLITICONOMICS packaged in very apt historical contexts. Well, the response has been varied as the bloggers supporting and rebuking them.

No matter you take, one thing is clear and we have to give it to Bw Mwarang'ethe that he his posts raises level of discourse. Specifically, his posts demonstrate the essential validity of a systemic analysis, rooted in history, of the current African condition.

For example, Mwarang'ethe was spot on about Botswana and her relatively developed economy compared to the rest of Africa. Botswana went their own way and repudiated the neo-liberal/neo-colonial Washington Consensus and that is why they have done relatively well.

However, let us not forget that Botswana remains a poor country. They have done well relative to other African countries, but they have not done well relative to their resource and economic potential.

The truth be said those who keep talking about leaders as the problem, miss the point that you made. That our leaders will keep acting the way they do because of the historical and systemic straitjacket that we are in as neo-colonies of the west.

Granted, leadership is a problem. But it is not the fundamental problem facing Africans.

One should just ask themselves this question. How come Africa consistently produces bad leaders? Given about 50 African countries with and average of 3 post colonial presidents and probably a further dozen key leaders at lower levels each, gives a total of about 700 key African post colonial leaders.

Out of that large number how many can we say were or are good leaders? You can probably count them on just your fingers.

This should prove to anybody that what we have in Africa is a systemic problem. We have a systems of governance, politics, economics etc that consistently produce bad leaders.

To change the leaders, we must change the systems. We can't just hope that the next leader out of the same system is going to buck the trend of the previous fifty bad ones.

To change the system we must look to its fundamental underpinnings. It is an imperialist system and imperial systems consist of the subjugated and the subjugator. This is their essential nature. Just as for slavery to exist, there must be a slave and a master.

Our problem as Africans is that we are too weak both individually collectively to confront imperialism head on. Until we unite with a singular purpose, we stand no chance of breaking free of the present ruinous system. Any takers out there?

Bye Dinosaurs: Mubarak, Gbagbo, Who's Next?

By KK Blogger

Contempt and impunity are their first and middle names. They treat their countries like person fiefdoms and the resources therein as their birthright to plunder. Their citizens are nothing but a herd to be whipped into submission towards advancing selfish gain. Meet the fast-dying African despots.

Our fools we have for African presidents have never bothered to learn from a single chapter of the history of vanquished African political leaders.

Case in point,Pharaoh Mubarak scoffed at his counterpart in Tunisia by claiming that the Egyptian domestic situation was very different from the one that was falling apart in Tunisia.

So being the real Pharaoh of Egypt with a huge military under his command, Mubarak turned down so many alternative offers for a quiet life in exile with a guaranteed immunity against prosecution and confiscation of his family assets.

The Pharaoh was so sure of himself to point where he chose to spend the rest of life in the resort city of Sham el-Sheikh as a statement of defiance against all the Egyptian people who wanted him out of power and gone for good from Egyptian soil and waters.

What a difference several weeks can make in the life of a one time mighty ruler of Egypt, it now turns out that Pharaoh Mubarak's family is in hot waters because of the pharaonic arrogance, hot temper, a lack of diplomatic skills, and an obstinacy that bordered on mulishness of their patriarch.

The Pharaoh is now languishing in prison, alongside his two sons, Gamal Mubarak, and Alaa Mubarak awaiting trial for misuse of power, corruption and a slew of other charges.

All the family's assets have been frozen, the Egyptian Court has dissolved the Mubarak Party, and all of his cronies and allies have been purged from the military, national police and civil service.

Pharaoh Mubarak and his sons now wish that they had accepted the offers to flee to quite and dignified exile in Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Monaco or Australia.

The other arrogant former president is defeated Laurent Gbagbo, his wife, family and cronies who will be brought to justice.

While there is still hope that countless other Pavlovian fools like Robert Mugabe and others will face same fate that befell the Pharaoh of Egypt, his sons and cronies when the timing is right.

Ever wonder what causes mighty military organizations on the African continent to fall apart in the eye of the storm, when engaged with rebel forces?

Woe unto you the exported villager still enslaved in ethnic politics. The next candidate may as well be your tribal warlord. Good riddance to bigoted intellect.

Wikileaks and the Pavlov Dogs Saga

By Mwarang'ethe

In the last few months, the Wikileaks has “leaked” the so called secret cables originating from the American Embassies to the superiors in the USA. From these cables, Kenyans have gained access to what their leaders tell the Americans. In reaction to these messages, we have read a lot of commentaries. As an example, on this blog, we have had Luke, Taabu and of late, Chris, whose essay is entitled: Wikileaks and Desperate Kenyans . In the “main press,” the Daily Nation’s Gitau Warigi whose essay entitled: “WikiLeaks exposes our weaknesses when in the company of foreigners” can be cited.

Having taken time to read all these essays and the comments, all we have noticed is an understandable anger of Kenyans towards their so called leaders. However, with utmost due respect to all those who have written and commented, we are of the considered opinion that, this anger and frustration is totally misplaced. We hold this view because; we are of the considered opinion that, Kenyans have confused two things. These are KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING. In other words, all we have acquired is mere KNOWLEDGE as to how our so called leaders behave in dark corners. However, this is not interesting at all. It is boring stuff. What is interesting is an UNDERSTANDING as to WHY today’s leaders and even the so called YOUNG FUTURE leaders the USA is training SHALL behave in the same manner.

However, we understand why Kenyans have reacted with anger and dismay, but, with no understanding. It is this. It is very rarely do men define the problems they face in terms of historical change and institutional contradictions. As such, seldom are men aware of the intricate connection between the patterns of their own lives and the course of world history. As a result, rarely do ordinary and even big men realise how changes in world history has a bearing on what kind of men and women they become and the kind of history they make. In other words, rarely do men form a just estimate of themselves and of mankind. This is so because, many rarely locate their actions and of others within a larger social system that severely restricts and moulds them. In other words, to expect our leaders, present and the future ones to behave differently is an illusion for such cannot happen without significant reorientation of the global power structure that empowers them in the first place. In other words, the sense that, our leaders/we are men of free choice is an illusion when viewed against the deeper influences that are normally hidden. But, what are these forces? And, how can they be understood?

An understanding of one’s life and mind and what men represent in his age, requires one to be aware of mankind’s history. The appreciation of the mankind’s treacherous history affords one at least two things. These are amusement and instruction. You see, when one studies history he or she comes to know very intimately how the human mind worked in the past, how it is working now and how it shall work in the future. Upon this knowledge, one can base his expectations of the present and the future workings of the human mind. The only problem is that, with such an understanding, one is forced to withdraw from many popular movements and ideas (remember the wonderful new constitution?) because, he knows so well, just like the old movements and human thoughts, how everything will end up. As such, he can match everything he watches in the politics of the day and thoughts all the way, for instance to the politics and thoughts of Athens and Rome. As such, when we read the Wikileaks stuff, we see nothing to ferment about the revelations, for we have seen these stuff before which enables a clear understanding of the situation.

To understand ourselves, our leaders, today and tomorrow, in relation to Wikileaks, all we need is to recall the writings of a Roman historian, Tacitus, who wrote at the time of the Roman Empire. At the Danube where the “civilised” Romans bordered with “Barbarians”, i.e. the Germans, it was the Roman Empire’s interest to keep the barbarians divided and distracted as a means of defence and PLUNDER. It is from this perspective, Tacitus, perhaps, forgetting for the moment, his sacred duty as an historian, he summarised and exhorted Rome’s imperial policy towards the barbarians:

“The Bructeri were totally exterminated by the neighbouring tribes, provoked by their insolence, allured by the hopes of spoil, and perhaps inspired by the tutelar deities of the empire. Above sixty thousand barbarians were destroyed, not by the Roman arms, but in our SIGHT and for our ENTERTAINMENT. May the nations, enemies of Rome, ever preserve this enmity to each other! We have now attained the utmost verge of prosperity, and have nothing left to demand of fortune except the DISCORD of the barbarians.”

These words of an eminent historian express the imperial policy of Rome. As it was 2000 years ago, so, it is in 2011. In other words, the strategy is this, how do you destroy those you seek to destroy while appearing as a friend? The Romans deemed it a much safer expedient to divide than to combat the barbarians. We are further told that, the Romans used money and negotiations to insinuate themselves into the heart of Germany and every art of seduction was used with dignity to conciliate those nations whom their proximity to the Rhine or Danube might render the most useful friends as well as the most troublesome enemies.

More so, we know this. Chiefs (read tribal leaders) who were known and had power were flattered by the most trifling presents. These presents were given either as a mark of distinction or as the instruments of luxury. When there were any civil commotions in the Barbarian camp, the weak parties/faction endeavoured to strengthen its interests by entering into secret deals with the governors of the frontier provinces. It is from this we learn that, every quarrel among the Germans was fomented by the intrigues of Rome and every plan of union and public good was defeated by the stronger bias of private jealousy and interest. Doesn’t this sound familiar in the 21st Century as we watch Libya, Ivory Coast etc? As an example, can the Ivorians and the Libyans manufacture the guns they are using to kill each other? No. But, are they not armed by those who appear as their friends? Arm them to what purpose? Simple, for self destruction so as to allow pillage by their friends. Isn’t this special?

This brings us to the saga of the Pavlov dogs. Briefly, Dr. Ivan Pavlov in his studies found that, he could train dogs to associate the ringing of a bell with food so that they would start salivating - which gave the stomach the message to start the digestive process every time a bell would ring. By so doing, he gave us the conditioned reflexes that are learned as opposed to innate and natural.

Here is the point to take home. Now, what the psychologists do not make explicit is that, his and these kinds of experiments are a political game. The relationship between the experimenter, i.e. Pavlov and his dogs represents the relationship of POWER. More so, the dog is conditioned and changed because of the difference in power between the dog, rat etc and the experimenter. It is so because; the experimenter is in control of things that the dogs needs/needed. As such, when you let others control your food, manufacturers, money, weapons, clothes and even condoms, and you expect them not to condition and change your psychology, like the Pavlov dogs, you are very deluded. It is therefore, this conditioning which makes Pavlov dogs like the Kalonzo’s. Kosgey’s, Wako’s etc of this world to salivate (read sing) like parrots when they are invited to the residence of the American ambassador (Pavlov) for dinner.

In essence therefore, through the Wikileaks, you have been given an opportunity to see how Empires work so as to keep their periphery economically weak and politically disorganised for the benefit of Empire and its Allies. That's why the Ambassadors and their superiors are interested in every trivial issue going around the capitals of the world. It is through such trivial, they learn the minds of those who can be used to further the imperil interests at the expense of the people. And, since we depend on them for the most vital aspects of our lives, we are conditioned to sing like Pavlov dogs.

The question now is, so, what do we do? For one to know what to do, he or she must appreciate this fact. We are living in an imperial age. In this system, we have the New Rome, its Free Allies and the Provinces, i.e. 3rd world. There are two ways to end the system. One, we, i.e. those who live and die in the poor provinces, i.e. 3rd world, we end it. This was the sacred mandate of the COE, but, they never understood it. All they did was to create more Satraps as one would expect of those educated into ignorance by their Pavlov. The other option, which we have accepted, and if you want to see that acceptance, read the new Kenyan constitution, is to live with our poverty, wars, famine, lack of condoms etc as we wait for the New Rome to collapse on its own weight. However, this may take time, and even worse, rarely, do blood thirsty empires go without rivers of blood.

NB: Finally, remember this. They are what they are, because, we are what we are.

Prediction: The future of Uhuru Kenyatta and the KKK alliance

Chris Kumekucha is BACK!!!

It is now going to 3 months since I lost my dad and clearly it seems that it will forever be an uphill task for me to get over his death, more so because of the circumstances surrounding his sudden death (a tale for another day). But today I have a story to tell that involves him that helps point clearly to the future of the so-called KKK alliance and Uhuru Kenyatta which I want to tell today.

I know most of my dear readers hate “kumekucha’s history lessons” but please bear with me because the story is fascinating.

At the time this happened my late dad was the top cop in Western province. He happened to be in Nairobi and walked into what was in those days the Nairobi area senior police officer’s mess. It is situated within Nairobi area police headquarters. He found another senior police officer who also happens to be from the Kamba tribe (name with-held). As they started their conversation he noticed at the corner of the bar one Ben Gethi (pictured on this page). Every policeman knew of the man’s antics and he was greatly feared because he had president Kenyatta’s ear and was behind some very cruel things done to people who for some reason were “not loyal” to the Kenyatta administration. For instance the standard “signature” for assassinations by Kenyatta’s inner circle was to cut off the private parts of their victim and stuff them inside his mouth. It is widely believed that this was done when they were still alive.

So this other top cop started telling off my dad in their mother tongue. He was angry at his stubbornness in refusing to take the oath of loyalty to the Kenyatta government. A quick background is necessary here for clarity. What had happened was that after the assassination of Tom Mboya in 1969 and JM Kariuki in 1975, Kenyatta’s inner circle, led by the dreaded Kiambu mafia started having weekend sessions of oath-taking. It is said that this primitive sessions required a person to strip completely naked amongst other detestable things involved in this kind of dreary business. This was the oath my dads’ colleague had taken and felt that my dad should have also taken. It was said in those days that promotion would be impossible for those who had not taken the oath. At some point the same Kiambu mafia went as far as taking an oath that the presidency would never cross River Chania. This is the river that marks the border between Kiambu Kikuyus and Nyeri Kikuyus. JM Kariuki was originally from Nyeri. Just imagine the cockiness behind this thinking (they were already sure that the presidency would never leave the Kikuyu community and were now concerned that it would never leave Kiambu Kikuyuland, where President Kenyatta hailed from).

My dad noticed that Gethi appeared to be leaning towards their direction as if trying to catch what they were talking about (Ben Gethi was a Kikuyu but many Kikuyus can easily understand Kamba because the two dialects have many similarities). According to my dad he felt that his life was in real danger and chances were that he would be followed the minute he left the officer’s mess. It had happened many times before to others with tragic consequences. He decided that he was not going to be such an easy target. And so he ordered a beer and carefully poured out most of it into his glass as he if he was going to stick around for a long time. And then after a few minutes he casually walked towards the gents. He quickly found a way out of the place and drove away ensuring that he was not being followed. He survived somehow despite his very principled approach at a very difficult time. The people who talk that oath for promotion had terrible ends to their lives, including Ben Gethi himself.

I want to draw your attention to the oath that was taken to block the presidency from crossing the River Chania. Well, president Kibaki hails from Nyeri which is on the other side of the Chania. Some of my readers may not take this very seriously but an oath is a terrible thing. It is instructive that Kibaki’s presidency has been very shaky right from the start and now it looks like he will end up on trial at the Hague for being the main cause behind the crimes against humanity that happened in Kenya in January 2008 (that is why he is so keen to defend the Ocampo six and is still fighting a losing battle to have the case brought back home where he can control things.) But even more interesting is the fact that there is now an alliance between the Nyeri man (Kibaki) and the son of the man under whose presidency an oath was taken to ensure that the presidency would never reach his kind. Spiritual experts say that the alliance of convenience between Kibaki and Uhuru cannot last (because of the oath). They also insist that the sins of the father (President Kenyatta) are sure to follow his son (Uhuru Kenyatta). The blood spilled during the Kenyatta presidency is still crying out to God from the ground (let alone the one innocent blood shed in 2008) which makes the numerous prayers the man seems to thrive in dodgy at best. This may sound like mumbo jumbo and stuff for the superstitious but why don’t we wait and see what happens, shall we?

Ben Gethi was more powerful than most people imagined

ICC Finally Confronts Kenya's Infamous Culture of Impunity

Flashback: The body of a woman lies on the floor as her child cries during ethnic clashes in Naivasha, about 60 km (37 miles) west of Nairobi, January 27, 2008, after members of Kenya's President Mwai Kibaki's Kikuyu tribe fought running battles with the Luos and the Kalenjins who back Kibaki's rival Raila Odinga. The clashes killed at least 10 people in Kenya's Rift Valley on Sunday as former U.N. chief Kofi Annan met Odinga to try to resolve a month-long crisis that has claimed 750 lives. REUTERS/George Phicipas (KENYA)

Thank heavens for small mercies, the road to justice for post elections violence victims has begun. The war against impunity in Kenya is underway.

This morning, history unfolded with appearance of suspended Higher Education Minister William Ruto, former Minister for Industrialisation Henry Kosgey and radio executive Joshua Arap Sang - all from the ODM wing - appeared at the ICC in Hague for the preliminary hearing to face charges that include of murder, deportation, persecutions and torture.

More history is due to unfold tomorrow when Uhuru Kenyatta - deputy PM and scion of founding President Jomo Kenyatta - is set to make his appearance at the ICC alongside Chief Secretary Francis Kirimi Muthaura and former police commissioner Maj-Gen Mohammed Hussein Ali to face charges of murder, deportation, persecutions and rape.

Very serious crimes against humanity indeed. Here at Kumekucha, we predicted these unlikely scenes way back in 2008. In actual sense Kibaki's fate in tomorrow's and other hearing hangs by a thread especially if Uhuru, Muthaura and Ali confess and prove that they were acting under the orders of the then duly erected (pun intended) Commander in Chief with a clearly defined chain of command. Looking at the ICC summons, no such fears exists for Raila and ODM's Pentagon, although the party has sent legal representatives to observe the proceedings.

While Presiding Judge Ekaterina Trendafilova was issuing stern warnings to Messrs Ruto, Kosgey and Sang informing them that the ICC would issue warrants of arrest should the suspects continue to make remarks that are likely to retrigger violence in Kenya, outside the court, some 40 Kenyan MPs gathered to protest against the proceedings, singing and chanting prayers. These are MPs who do not pay tax and who the country are relying on to fastrack the implementation of the new constitution making a fool of themselves, embarrassing the country in front of international press in a foreign country just because they got free tickets and good allowances to make a Hague appearance ostensibly to offer moral support and intimidate the International Criminal Court!

Uhuru and Ruto - christened 'powerful' and 'frontrunners' by the discredited Kenyan mainstream media - have lately held highly emotional nationwide political rallies with most speakers directing their heat towards Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and blaming him for all their tribulations. What Ruto and Uhuru did not know, is that the ICC has been following what they say at these rallies very keenly and today's proceedings confirms what is technically a GAG ORDER on the accused. A casual look at the MPs who opposed the formation of a local tribunal when it was brought to parliament up to three times show that it was actually Uhuru and Ruto's allies who failed to support the bills in the presence of PM Raila and President Kibaki. Like they say, mtoto akililia wembe, mpe! Na sasa wamepewa!

Back in court, a fidgety, restless and arrogant Ruto had to be warned several times by the presiding judge to 'sit down'. Ruto belittled the court when he was quoted as wondering why he had to be 'dragged' up to this place, meaning the ICC, and later contradicted himself by conceding he been sufficiently briefed and clearly understood why he had been summoned by the ICC. Flip flopping on topical issues does not add points at the court.

The pretrial judges have set September 1 as the date for a hearing to confirm the charges and determine whether the suspects should be ordered to stand trial. With an eye on 2012, Ruto's lawyers wanted this date brought forward. But thankfully, this is not the corrupt Kenya judiciary but the ICC where respect of rule of law is paramount and proceedings are conduted through pre-determined procedure.

The court also set a date of April 18 for a status hearing to discuss evidence disclosure. If successful, Kenyans should brace themselves to hear horrific tales of what the masterminds did in visiting terror against innocent civilians.

3. Convinced that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of the proper ends of government, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government.

Nothing has come of the National Accord:

a) Youth Unemployment is worse than before they came to power.

b) IDPs four years later on are still homeless living in Tents, relying on food rations and being rained on.

c) Only two bills of the 40 needed to operationalize the constitution have been passed.

d) Post Election Violence perpetrators have not been tried whilst both sides of the coalition government engages in all manner ping pong brandishing the tribal card.

e) The cost of living has gone up; fuel prices, food, transportation and no one in government looks bothered.

f) The politicians continue to treat our institutions with contempt full of impunity

Ours is to tell them that we have had it and they must wind up immediately and go! And that we shall not leave the various squares until the coalition is wound up.

Kenya Youth League wishes to set out the following rules for the Protests:

* We shall be disciplined. Discipline is paramount.

* There shall be no use or return of verbal or physical violence towards any person. The objective of the protest is to change government by popular will not by coup or by force. The protests therefore will be peaceful and non-violent, no arms, no defense, no destruction of property.

* We shall effect arrests on anyone who carries arms or engages in the destruction of property.

* We shall not loot since Protests do not lead to thuggery, it dethrones thugs.

* We shall not carry or use alcohol or illegal drugs.

* We shall not place ourselves in obvious danger and we shall try to ensure the safety of all people in and around the action squares.

* We shall be responsible for the cleanliness of the places we occupy.

It is our Prayer that the Almighty God will in due time give us a new breed of National leaders who are committed to ridding us of Poverty, ignorance and disease as hoped by our founding Fathers. God bless Kenya.

ODM War Manifest Nonsense, Fiendish Delight

Don't be vague, let's go to The Hague. Well, not quite as ODM's poor attempt to bake its cake and eat it culminates into another impending political tower of Babel. Torn between projecting a spruced face seeking justice for post-election victims and token appeasement of its residual hitherto members from Rift Valley, the ODM edifice is staring its political and credibility Waterloo in the face.

What is more, William Ruto has compounded ODM's problems by smartly rejecting the poisoned chalice that was doled out to him as legal support for his forthcoming Hague date. Granted, most Kenyan will predictably rush for the cheap ethnic explanation but the truth is far bigger than that. Speak of reverse FIENDISH DELIGHT which amounts to cheap justification of security in numbers albeit disguise. Our political parties stand for nothing apart from being used as vehicles to acquire raw political power, PERIOD.

The hitherto political juggernaut ODM is calmly lying on her deathbed crowded by opposing camps in every decision making. It is simple: YOU CANNOT HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT. While collective responsibility would demand the Orange party to go by its NEC and parliamentary decision to sponsor lawyers for Ocampo3 to placate Rift Valley voters, it is a difficult balancing act to renege on consistency to project objectivity in search of justice for the PEV.

Make no mistake, the support and opposition for the gang that is Ocampo6 is nothing but our time-tested ETHNIC POLITICS perfected. Despite the high-sounding declarations laced in chest thumbing, no camp is interested in justice or reconciliation. Your guess is as good as mine what the fate of the Ocampo6 be if ICC another of our easily-manipulated courts. All his warts notwithstanding, Luis-Moreno Ocampo has scared the IMPUNITY hell out of tribal lord and things will never be the same again.

Meanwhile, lawyers or no lawyers, ODM is a victim of its own schemes and the tower of Babel will soon leave members cowering for political safe grounds. 2012 here we come.

Don't be Vague, Mint More Huge Confusion

The political gestation period is already here ready for 2012 elections. Soon it will be mutation galore from both sides of the political divide. And don't count on any your tribal chieftains to keep a float in the impending implosion. Given the ongoing internal divisions, squabbles, fights within the two coalition parties with heat in one begetting heat from the rival, even die hard supporters are better advised to invest their loyalty elsewhere. But this is Kenya with all her unique political landscape, anything is possible.

All the wrangles within the parties, whether on ICC or posts, can be correctly traced to lack of political ideology. All there is presently are mere vehicles to acquire raw political power for personal aggrandisement, PERIOD. All parties are more of cults revolving around individual with no solid traditional identity. All the empty slogans are just that devoid any objective and unifying theme.

All the heat will soon upgrade to an inferno electioneering season set in proper Kenyan style. We haven't seen anything yet from both local and exported Kenyans waxing patriotic in support of their tribal warlords, NA BADO.

Poor Kenyans! The belief that the new constitution was crafted to make the presidency less attractive must have been misplaced given the length of queue of aspirants. Well, Kenya has changed but not Kenyans. No matter your take, the fiasco that was 2007 elections changed Kenya forever. The take off was bumpy and the landing/transition is equally scary.

Statesman President Kibaki Talks the Walk

Typical and resolute President Kibaki avoided the small talk while opening parliament and instead reminded the MPs of the bigger task ahead. While all others have been enslaved to small talk, Kibaki never mentioned ICC nor party party politics. By urging the MPs to pass the requisite laws that will anchor the new constitution, Kibaki is leading from in front and by example.

Walking the talk meant the President never lost sight of his main agenda. No petty talk on the heat generated about August/December elections next year. Those who know Kibaki will recall his singular determination and proclamation to banish our national vices in during his inauguration in 2003. The same steadfastness saw him steer Kenya out of near-apocalypse after 2005 referendum when he reorganized and formed an INCLUSIVE cabinet.

A peaceful and fair elections will guarantee all else. By reminding MPs about the urgency of the task ahead of them, Kibaki couldn't have been a better barometer of the Kenyan pulse. He is aware of the importance of passing the laws that will create Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission. The President aptly noted that 2012 elections will be MORE DEMANDING because of the many offices that will be contested.

So there we go, Kibaki has set the ball rolling. We can only hope and pray that the heat and foul-mouthed politics revolving around The Hague will not rear its ugly head to derail implementation of the constitution. Kibaki is the political giraffe whose advise will see us avoid the hitherto predicted chaos because of only two people.

Bright, Clean Face of Future Kenyan Politics

True patriots, three young Kenyans with a singular vision and boiling warrior blood ready to slay our endemic trinity evil: tribalism, corruption and impunity. A breathe of fresh political air.

Ocampo Plans to Arrest Muthaura on April 8

Forget about April 7. Now the D-Day is April 8. Ocampo is no fool to crowd a day designated for his prized catch. While Ruto and Koskei will appear before ICC Judges on the morning of April 7 to confirm the charges against them, Muthaura and Uhuru have been reallocated a new date/day to enable Ocampo sufficient time to execute his plans to detain them on account stopping them from interfering with police, investigations and witnesses in the course of their official duties.

Make no mistake, President Kibaki is no fool as WikiLeaks revealed the other day. HE knows too well who prosecutor Luis-Moreno Ocampo has on his radar. And when push comes to a shove Mzee Muthaura has already made it known about his dismay at being left holding the can of worms. The next natural course of action will see him letting the worms slither. Well, a few more TRADITIONAL mysterious deaths in the near future is not fat-fetched.

All the war drum gimmicks will be served the contempt card they duly deserve. The hydra that is Kenya's impunity has exhausted all orifices to sprout ahead. And Moreno knows it that is why he is waging both media and legal wars to prepare both suspects and their gullible apologists for the dark political/legal future lurking ahead.

Diner with the devil
Now our patriotic leaders are shamelessly peddling the cheap and laughable theory that local political parties have extended their influence from ICC to the UN. Looking at all the motions and charades to defeat justice, one need not be a nuclear physicists to imagine what a local tribunal would be mandated to do. You have to excuse the regime apologists for supporting the hitherto poisoned judicial appointments.

We invited the devil for dinner and he must be ready to sup with our guest now that he is promptly seated. Like him, hate him, Ocampo has the ruling class by the balls. No amount of posturing or bravado will loosen the grip. Hardly 1000 days after collectively raping a country and her voters, the incalculable bill of that national fraud is just beginning to stream in threatening to blow up the calculators.

While we live beautiful national coloured lies always prefaced in denial and acute selective amnesia, the internationals community which saved from ourselves are knocking for their pound of flesh. No amount of threats will have them buy our twin vices of deceit and fraud. We made the bed and must brace ourselves for the eventful sleep.

Governor Ocampo Triggers False War Drums

Imaginative Kenyans. They mint new phrases every time the political temperature soars. Thanks to them now we have new lingo in POWER GRAB CALCULUS alongside MANIFEST NONSENSE that is devoid of PATRIOTIC flavour. Well give it to one governor Ocampo (hate him, like him) the Argentine has rattled Kenya's ruling class like never before. Meanwhile the gullible Kenyan is still pitching for the tribal warlords.

Make no mistake, Ocampo's incessant media briefs is both political and legal. He is simply conditioning the leading suspects for a SUMMON-WARRANT transition in addition to preparing the masses. No amount of threats of violence will deter Lius-Moreno. Having successfully prosecuted Argentinian military junta, the threats and bravado flying from our public rallies only succeed in providing him with more ammunition against the suspects.

Both Ocampo6 and their supporters have exhausted all our traditional trademark excuses lakini wapi? The sovereignty card won't wash neither the naked lies dressed as motion with no trace of movement. We cannot export our NATIONAL culture of deceit. We only fool ourselves by claiming to task police with investigating themselves and reporting to a suspect himself.

It is true proving and convicting a suspect on crimes against humanity is no mean feat and Ocampo knows it. Judge Kaul had to dissent for legal fidelity lest he loses credibility after differing with his colleagues in round one. But reading his report is no consolation to the suspects. The diplomat in him refer to local solutions that do not exist.

Granted we created our own bed of mess and must be ready to lie on the filth. But given the gimmicks from the owners of Kenya, you need not be a neurologist to see through the beauty of coloured lies. Truth is there will be no more ELECTION/TRIBALLY-instigated violence like that witnessed in 2007/8. Every tribal warlord now has his (no lady yet) horn firmly in ICC and/or Ocampo's hands.

The cheap and empty threat of POWER GRAB CALCULUS is MANIFEST NONSENSE, period. Leta ingine.

Ocampo6 Parallels Present Day Kapenguria Six

History is prone to repeat itself with regard to Kenya stewing in her own blood come 2012 elections. Exactly 20 years ago Moi prophetically warned about the perils of multi-party politics. Fast forward to 2012 and the game remains the same except the players are donning jerseys in different colour - the foot is in the other boot. The world would be IRRESPONSIBLE to let Kenya go to the dogs. And we have been warned that indicting Ocampo6 is an open invitation to chaos.

The SHATTERED diplomacy was not an exercise in futility but a chance to remind the world that Kenya has her owners. The truth is that you only risk arresting LEADING PRESIDENTIAL candidates at the peril of the remaining 40 million Kenyans. Kibki is no political fool to risk his legacy by shooting himself in both feet.

Make no mistake, defending the Ocampo6 is a national project, MTA DO? Uhuru and Muthaura cannot be left to their own devices when their only crime was to do what they had to do given the near-Armageddon in 2007/8. As for Ruto, it is REALPOLITIK and expediency both rolled in one, period.

At the risk of distorting our national history, the gand of Ocampo6 may as well be compared to the Kapenguria six in their fight for independence. The later delivered and the former have the potential to deliver us from APOCALYPSE if Kibaki saves them from the noose of vindictive ICC.

Presidential frontrunners
Naysayers will cheaply equate the cost of shuttle diplomacy to dancing on the graves of PEV victims. Far from it, brother Kalonzo has selflessly devoted his energy and time to help Kenyans reclaim their country back. The born-again VP has put at stake his moral compass, dignity, self-respect, honour and pride on the national chopping block. What is more, no price is bigger than patriotism and sovereignty.

While saving the Ocampo6 will definitely guarantee peace for the IDPs in their camps, carting the suspects to The Hague is a sure recipe for another bloodbath. Well, the choice for a lesser evil must be natural. President Kibaki is never known to protect anybody from prosecution but since he is neck deep into saving the Ocampo6 we must accord him the benefit of doubt for he surely knows alot that we don't.

Kenya needs no babysitting given our selfless and competent leaders. Post-election violence was our own making and we are better placed to solve all its problems by ourselves. The Americans and Britons are better advised to keep off and so do the loud-mouthed so-called international community.

No amount of judicial posturing can solve the plethora of our domestic problems. Truth is our problems are political which demand political solutions. We have the political will and leadership to steer MV Kenya out of the present and future doldrums. With Gaddafi and Mubarak as our trusted allies who wants neo-colonialists?

The ICC is poised to shape 2012 polls. It is true that while Uhuru and Ruto may miss 2012 polls, the 1300 victims of PEV will definitely miss 2012 polls. Similarly while the next president is not known, what is known is who the 4th PORK will NOT BE. That is HARD BALL politics 100. Meanwhile the Rift Valley (and Central) remain the focal point and hotbed of Kenya's politics.

Ocampo 6: Kalonzo Wins, Vindictive ICC Loses

The VP Kalonzo Musyoka is the true political winner whether the Ocampo6 are indicted or not. His is an enviable win-win political scenario. Either Kalonzo will inherit all political votes following Uhuru and Ruto's being carted to The Hague or he will bask in glory and reap abundantly as the defender of the duo at time of need.

See latest post by Chris: Evil plan to stay in power for 3 more years

Hon Kalonzo Musyoka's unwavering shuttle diplomacy has been vindicated by the vindictive ICC following sermons for the so-called Ocampo 6. Now that two of the three ICC Judges have joined the global political chorus in making Kenya an example of fighting EXECUTIVE IMPUNITY, all Kenyans must join the VP in the global fight to reclaim our country and pride.

Those who derided Kalonzo for wasting taxpayers' money must now bury their heads in shame. See Steve has proved once again what it means to be steadfast while armed with wisdom of being able to see ahead of time. We must have faith and confidence in our national institutions otherwise the recently promulgated constitution would not be worth the paper it was printed on.

And the message to the world is clear: defer the ICC cases and you spare the WHOLE REGION and our country Armageddon. Only doomsayers would argue with that truism given our immediate political past experience. What is more, Kibaki and Kalonzo should know better given the comprehensive daily intelligence briefings at their disposal.

The President and his principal assistant must not be faulted for operating at a variance with the aspirations of most Kenyans. Truth is they know more that we don't know as ordinary citizens. Forget about the NGOs. They can as well sing IMPUNITY till cows come home but we know their sights remain singularly trained on donor funds while they remain oblivious of the plight of IDPs.

As a country we must learn to be grateful. So far our born-again brother Steve has worked diplomatic MIRACLES on a shoestring budget of just about KES 30m. Make no mistake, that amount cannot even built a MODERN MANSION for a single IDP family leave alone the many thousands littering our national landscape in the Rift Valley.

We must all pull together to save the 6 gallant Kenyans from Ocampo's jaws of prejudice and neocolonialism packaged as seeking justice against impunity. It is no coincidence that half of the Ocampo 6 share a sodiac star - all born in December (CLOSURE?).

The VP deserves the support of every breathing Kenyan in securing our national pride and sovereignty. A closer look will reveal that his singular objectivity has even seen him SHUTTLE together with SALACIOUS Sally Koskei who SLAPPED him while she was his PS as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Surely, there comes a time when national priorities outweigh personal traumas.

Evil plan to stay in power for 3 more years

In a recent post I talked about diversionary tactics of the executive and the president in particular. This is an update on that post which reveals information that should not really surprise keen followers of the Kenyan political scene.

In the run up to the 2007 ill-fated presidential elections, there was a clique of advisors to the president who could smell disaster and were pushing for Kibaki to delay those general elections. Indeed many in the clergy were voicing the same opinion and were rightfully worried that political temperatures then were way too high for a peaceful general election to happen. But other advisors were alarmed at the very thought of delaying elections fearing that their candidate would be seen as a coward who was already sensing defeat from Raila Odinga and seeking a way out. We all know now which was the more prudent advise that would have saved lives.

But fast-forward to the present and the same clique of advisors have convinced the president that it would be in his best interests to delay the next general elections for as long as possible. “We told you so the last time,” they are saying. In fact the way things are going Mwai Kibaki could easily end up enjoying as much as 3 extra valuable years at the helm. And it is so easy to delay the next general elections. All that has to be done is complicate the implementation of the new constitution.

We have already been treated to public drama which wasted a whole valuable 3 weeks. All the president did in that circus was insisting that his appointments were constitutional (when he knew very well that they were not).

There are many good reasons for the Kibaki camp to delay the elections. One is that the cash being poured into the country by the Americans to push a new cream of youthful leaders into politics (which the president’s handlers see as a threat to the security of the state) will be spent and because elections will not happen in 2012, its’ impact will be greatly watered down.

Another reason is that there will be enough time to completely dismantle what the president’s men see as a still-powerful political juggernaut in the name of ODM. (I beg to differ on that one. In my view ODM is already a spent force and so is its’ presidential candidate. And you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Just go back in history and check what happened to Narc, Kanu etc. In Kenya political parties are ALWAYS designed to self distract as soon as they have fulfilled their objective which is to get some Kenyan safely into the grounds of State House as the main occupant. Admittedly Raila Odinga didn’t quiet get there but those are semantics in this case). Hilariously the person who is being used to “deal with the Jaruos” (William Ruto) knows this very well but is enjoying the moment looking good and gaining massive political capital flogging a horse that is already on it’s death bed.

But I digress. What should alarm Kenyans even more is the fact that delaying elections is not the kind of idea one needs to sell to parliament. The thing just sells itself. Who can resist the super remuneration and package fit for nothing less than a king?

Bado mapabano folks. Bado sana!!!

Was president Kibaki fit to rule in 2003? Is he fit now?

Wikileaks and desperate Kenyans

If there is something major that I have learnt this year thus far then it is the fact that one is never old enough to lose a parent. I can hardly think of anything that have been as devastating to me in this life as the loss of my Dad. Even if he was from a different generation. The generation of President Mwai Kibaki. Conservative as they come with certain views, rules and principals cast in stone. This had to be the main reason why in his last days he had clearly lost touch with a new world where rules and principals are super-fluid and where change is happening too fast for anybody to fully grasp it, let alone its’ implications.

A friend once quipped that I seem to know Mwai Kibaki so well. If this has come out in my writing then it has a lot to do with the fact that I understood that my dad was from the same time and thus tended to think along very similar lines.

It took me many years but finally I learnt to accept him for what he was. Especially because of the positive side of being unshakeable. The man just couldn’t take a bribe or even look the other way. He just couldn’t. Many times his life was threatened simply because he was unable to do the safe thing of walking away and pretending he had seen nothing. He often told me that his conscience just couldn’t take it. Rare breed indeed and clearly the kind of people we need to shape and create our new Kenya. And if he were still alive today and was in a position of power he would not have been worried about that terror word amongst the high and mighty these days; wikileaks.

Wikileaks is that magic terror word that causes the rich and powerful to wake up in cold sweat at night (that is when they do manage to get some sleep). I spent a little time yesterday reading the Sunday Nation and could not help agreeing wholeheartedly with a number of opinion pieces denouncing Kenyans for the habit of falling over themselves to show mzungus just how much they knew.

I have been privileged to have gone to school with and even found myself in quite a number of situations where I have interacted with Mzungus and I can authoritatively tell you that irrespective of the smiles and kind words, they have a very low opinion of us in general. And I am not being racial. This is made worse when we always seem to want to bend over backwards to please them and show them how clever we are.

Indeed this is one of the reasons why I respect Tanzanians, even with all their poverty and issues. Walk into any office in Kenya today ahead of a mzungu and you will be told to wait while the mzungu who is behind you in the queue is served first. One day in 2004 I walked into a Dar office several paces behind a mzungu and was shocked beyond words when he was asked to wait while the man asked me; nitakusaidia aje kaka? (How can I help you my brother?). Later I heard many Tanzanians point out how most mzungus love to come to Africa to exploit Africans and take away from them while pretending to help. I thought to myself how true this was and how naïve we Kenyans are while being so desperate to look intelligent in front of white folks while actually making an utter fool of ourselves.

That is how diplomats readily get so much information from clueless government officials and even politicians. I can imagine a new arrival being briefed by a fellow diplomat thus;

“Simply wine and dine them old fellow. They are obsessed with unhealthy red meat. Just roast plenty of the disgusting flesh over some charcoal fire and keep their glasses filled mostly with that trashy beer they call Tusker and they will sing better than any bird you know…”

I recently almost threw up as I listened to a popular Radio personality host a mzungu on their show. I have interviewed many people and attended many press conferences in my time and it is so easy for me to tell when the person asking the questions is making an effort to look intelligent. Actually the best interview is where you ask the kind of questions your audience would ask, even the stupid ones. The reason why the Wikileaks revelations are so detailed and accurate is because somebody asked plenty of stupid questions over some nyama choma and Tusker, now guess who looks intelligent?

Don't miss: Wikileaks and the Pavlov Dogs Saga

P.S. Did you catch the Wikileaks where VP Kalonzo Musyoka wanted the mzungus to put pressure on Kibaki to step aside on account of his health (discussed here in Kumekucha many times before 2007) so that he would ascend to the presidency and be in pole position when fresh elections are called? Amazing stuff!!

What is the executive diverting attention away from?

5I have been away burying my dad. Predictably it has been a very sad time for me. Yeah, yeah I know how fashionable it is these days to celebrate somebody’s life at their funeral rather than just feel sad and only focus on what may have been but never was, but hey I am human after all and the guy was my dad.

Enough of that for now but for those still interested I will talk about the man who was the true inspiration behind your beloved Kumekucha and our stormy relationship in the weeks and months to come as I continue to come to terms with the sudden events of January 19th this year and the aftermath.
Time for me may have stood still in the past few weeks but oh my, nothing has stood still on the local political scene. So much has happened and there is so much to discuss and reveal. Indeed I debated with myself for hours to decide what this first post would be about.

Let’s talk about diversion tactics, shall we. Because there has been so much of that in recent times so much so that I am very scared for Kenya. By the end of this post you too will be.

Diversion tactics work best when you want to attack a fortress of sorts. You start a small fire (that looks big) on the side so that everybody’s attention is focused on your dangerous looking fire, including those who are supposed to be guarding the fortress with their lives. And so it becomes very easy for you to go in and steal the crown jewels. With proper execution some people will never get an inkling of what you did.

There was a time that many people used to believe that Mwai Kibaki drunk too much, but would president Kibaki with his array of top notch advisors make unconstitutional appointments without realizing what he had done? And then keep insisting that they were constitutional while clinging to legal straws that are at best laughable?

I don’t think so. The idea there was to divert attention.

Many of you will have heard of the Prime Minister using the same effective technique (according to Wikileaks revelations) to divert attention from substantiated allegations that he had appointed close relatives to key diplomatic posts.

All past Kenyan presidents starting from Kenyatta and Moi have been known to frequently use diversion tactics on the hapless public.

The question on your mind now should be; what is our attention being diverted away from? Serious political analysts will have no problem with the first guess. The ICC stu***.

But methinks that there is also something else almost as serious brewing which I hope to discuss here in the days to come. Meanwhile it is great to be back. I missed Kumekucha much more than I thought I would.

Some people don't think Kibaki is the main target on Ocampo's list

Smart Kibaki Now Upgrades Shuttle Diplomacy

President Kibaki has once again shown his genius side by appointing VP Kalonzo to lead the group of envoys who will push for ICC deferrals. And that what it takes to lead from the front and by example. The truth is some of these issues are too complex to be solved using pedestrian antics packaged as cheap populism. Granted, it is one thing to respect the views of Kenyans but quite another to do the right thing for the long term benefit of those who MOVE (and own) this country. And Kibaki should know better.

As a servant leader, VP Kalonzo's rallying call to give us back our country is no empty slogan. Forget about the diplomatic rumours labelling the handsome and born-again Veep as an opportunist and an intellectual lightweight. Nothing can be so condescending from an arrogant guest with an obtuse appetite to scandalize his hosts. It is the height of diplomatic hypocrisy to turn the truism of real (kati kati) politics as devoid of gist, gravitas and agenda.

Make no mistake, Kibaki has seen it all. HE often draws from his alloyed wisdom to serve all Kenyans equally including the so-called Ocampo 3 (not 6). A look at the list of envoys tasked with ICC deferral reveals the TRUE FACE of Kenya and intellect both dolled in a unit. What is more, Kibaki even respects both the spirit and letter of the new constitution on gender parity by appointing two ladies. Both Dr. Sally Kosgei and Prof. Hellen Sambili are women with superlative brains, the former having hinted at being underutilized prompting her deride our national flag.

What is more, while Minister Njeru Githae is an accomplished legal mind, Chirau Ali Mwakwere is Kenya's ex-chief diplomat. Add Saitoti's experience to the mix and you get a team teeming with all it takes to competently and selfishly serve our national interest.

Kalonzo is a reputed peace maker. That his sojourn as Minister for Foreign Affairs saw peace in Southern Sudan and Somalia cannot be gainsaid. Only him could have Libya's Muammar Gadaffi listen and endorse our cause. Forget about the NON-EXISTENT unrest in the Middle East, we owe the pride of our own LAICO (sorry Grand Regency) it to dear Leader through Libya Investment Authority.

The naysayers must spare HE Kibaki spats and wait to see the fruits of his vision. He is no lame duck President and serving the interests of movers and shakers of Kenya has always been his forte. No need for juvenile consultations. Kalonzo will deliver ICC deferral under stringent budget and squalor among the IDPs will disappear.

And the ultimate reward awaits brother Steve next year when he brings the trophy home parading his fighting spirit. Who said the VP needs KKK? Both Imanyara and Orengo only have single votes. Washindwe!

Kenyans Must Unite Against Diplomatic Rumours And Wild Allegations

Once again our filthy national fabric is being aired for all and sundry to see. US Ambassadors to Kenya must be our politicial classes' ego-therapist massuers. During their tenure in our swamp of corruption their ears act as international megaphones loud mouthing WILD ALLEGATIONS that would shame our local journalists best reports even on their greatest day

Former POTUS Bush and his successor Obama could not have asked for better international conduits of exported juicy RUMOURS than their men posted in Kenya. The smart diplomats do not play in the same league as former anti-corruption czar John Githongo who was forced to resort to secretly taping his unsuspecting informers. On the contrary in the presence of Rannenberger and his successive predecessors the collective overinflated egos of our political scoundrels simply exhale their utter contempt toward each other and their naked emotive tribal stereotypes masked as warped championing of good governance and democracy for Wanjiku.

Wikileaks cables reveal nothing new about Kenya's tribal based politics-the "muchene" (rumours) uttered in the consul massage parlors of Rannenberger&co. is nothing more than a reflection of our own rotten values as a society.Visit any Kenyan homestead after 8pm and witness for yourself wanaNICHI national past time of cheering fellow tribesmate thieves, murderers and drug barons MPigs while interpreting the main 9pm news bulletin through narrow tribal jingoism

Well, nothing exemplifies our fledgling democracy more than a fractitious coalition.Let embattled wikileaks founder Julian Assange not fool himself into thinking he did us a favour by exposing our skeleton closet to the world. We are a sovereign nation and will remain united against the meddling westerners.True they played their part in saving us from a one way ticket to hell but that was then. Now thanks to a new constitution plus ongoing judicial reforms we are once again standing tall in the international community of nations and nothing can ever put us to shame again.NA BADO

Would Snap Elections Resolve the Abortive Judicial Appointments & Impending Hague Trials?

Desperate PNU ready to sacrifice......if only to avoid the Hague!

Following political uncertainty arising out of disagreement by the principals on key judicial appointments, speculation is rising over the possibility of one partner unexpectedly pulling out of the coalition and demanding a snap general election. Political temperatures are escalating and it is noticeable through the same vitriolic utterances of some of the amateur players (read-Hague suspects) who so nearly led this country to civil war in 2008.

But even as the two principals retreat and appear to close ranks, both are still talking of following difference routes towards resolving the stalemate and it now seems unlikely they will reach an amicable agreement given the contents of statements released by each of them. To add insult to injury, PNU and its allies continue to plot all manner of attacks against their coalition partners aimed at weakening them politically. Despite their presumed greater numbers, they came out of parliament with black eye and without any victory against mainstream ODM.

Matters are not made easier by the immense pressure on key political figures named as ICC suspects in Kenya's post elections violence. The Ocampo6, actually Ocampo3, are believed to be the real power behind the push for the ill conceived and moribund ICC deferrals. ICC Prosecutor has vowed to make Kenya an example to the rest of the world and had promised to start the Kenyan cases at pre-trial chamber of the ICC at the beginning of March 2011. This date which is hardly one week away is giving the powerful Ocampo3 sleepless nights. The rejection of judicial nominees by speaker Marende almost drove Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto to tears. The reality is dawning key men of the president's camp, including defecting ODM allies, who have made a huge about-turn from favouring Hague, to favouring a local tribunal. They are hopeful that the UN-Security Council may just grant their wish.

The unspoken secret is that the recent controversial and hurried judicial appointments were geared towards showcasing to the international community that Kenya's judiciary is now reformed and peddle the lie that the country can successful put to trial all the post election violence suspects using local mechanisms. The AU Heads of State fell for the campaign and it is only the UNSC that now stands between Kenya and the ICC. All signs are that some members of the UNSC will veto Kenya's application for a deferral and that the ICC pre-trial chamber judges will soon be issuing summons, or on a worst case scenario, arrest warrants, against the Kenyan suspects, since Ocampo had predicted the cases would begin by March 2011. Arrest warrants are more likely because on all intents and purposes, the Kibaki government will not co-operate with ICC since the suspects still serve in the same government.

With the dreaded month of March fast approaching, PNU (and defecting ODM allies) are extremely desperate and are now exploring unthinkable options to ward off the possibility of Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto, Francis Muthaura, Maj-Gen. Ali, Henry Kosgey and KASS FM presenter Joshua Arap Sang being shipped to face justice at the Hague. Not only are the individuals influential in their own right, there are deep fears that they may cut deals with Ocampo to implicate one or both of the principals, and even agree to testify against one of them. One can only imagine the bombshells if, say, Muthaura or Ali decides to testify against their boss Kibaki!

Although a snap election appears to many as a far fetched eventuality, keen observers of the Kenya's political arena, will not have failed to notice the recent semi official political rallies by ODM Leader in all parts of the country. Raila has already been to NEP, Coast and is this coming weekend expect to be in Western, where ODM bigwigs are expected to troop to town and address a huge political rally at Kakamega's historic Muliro Gardens.

Before this, an unexpected sms is already doing the rounds in Nairobi today that Raila Odinga will tomorrow morning at 10am, Friday the 25th February, address an unscheduled political rally at Nairobi's Country Bus station, otherwise known as Machakos airport. Not only is the rally an unusual occurrence, but it is an obvious choice to any smart politician. It happens to fall in Kamkunji constituency which is due for a by-election soon, and it is a location through which hundreds of thousands of common Kenyans pass through each day. It is also adjacent to the populous Eastlands area of Nairobi and also close to the ever busy and quite expansive Gikomba open air market. In other words, rather than hold a rally in Uhuru Park, there are hordes of common inflation-hit wananchi readily available at Machakos airport everyday and the ever scheming Raila, it seems, wants to take full advantage of this to address them directly. ODM insiders have already confirmed the rallies are on. So what does Raila know that the rest of the country does not know? Will Kamkunji OCS ban this rally on grounds of insecurity as he did for Eugene Wamalwa and Maina Njenga, or is the PM on a 'working tour'?

These highly charged political rallies can only mean, either the country may be in for a snap election, or subtle campaigns for the 2012 have began.

With the recently promulgated constitution hardly implemented, it remains to be seen if the coalition may collapse, or if snap elections may be called. Many middle class and upper class Kenyans are expressing their usual scepticism over the possibility of going for premature polls but if you talk to any poor Kenyan on the street, you will be shocked at how much wananchi are fed-up with the MPs of the 10th parliament and the dysfunctional coalition government. Wananchi are ready to vote out these pretenders to the thrown.

Kibaki Backs Down,Next Constitutional Deadlock Please

President Kibaki finally put his house in order.Well,Kenyans are far ahead of their leaders and were not fooled by Tuesday's cleverly crafted press conference and stage managed photo op disguised as smart give and take politics.Make no mistake,H.E.had painted himself into a corner that left no option but to beat a hasty retreat in order to save his face from an inevitable egg plastering.Just imagine the combined embarrassment of swallowing pie in public with the inevitable rulings from the constitutional court favouring the same verdict as Parliament, AG Wako, CJ and High Court. What would he have done then?We may find out come the next inevitable constitutional deadlock thanks to his cabal of advisors, PNU allies and ODM rebel MPs

Phony Advisors
What a shame to his close croonie advisors? This cartel of stubborn elderly elitist never miss an opportunity to try and introduce primitive style old leadership schemes and gimmicks through the back door. Once again their bad decision has cost PORK humiliation in the just concluded nominations row.Throw PNU allies and ODM rebel MPs into the mix and the picture slowly starts to emerges of a posse out to advance their selfish causes with the singular result of constantly undressing the emperor leaving him naked. Well, after December 2007 and August 2010 Kenya will never be the same again and it is no longer business as usual.Kenya is now anchored on a NEW CONSTITUTION and no amount of political TANTRUMS will derail our determined march towards realizing a truly united and prosperous country.

Let TRUE leadership lead from the front and by example;the 2 principals the Prime Minister and the duly elected must be alone so that BOTH may take charge of not just the nominations process but the entire remainder of implementing the new constitution. The national expectation now is that our leaders will stop politiking and listen to the nation's pulse by allowing only the Prime Minister and President to read from the same script so that the current scenario of constitutional deadlocks will not keep repeating itself.Parliament and the house speaker should not be required to keep on adjudicating political stalemates between the 2 principals while Kenyans continue to be robbed of their peace and subjected to permanent tensions.God bless Kenya
