Kenyan Tribe Where Men Still Get Into A Bloody Fight To Secure A Bride

During the Stone Age, men would club each other to death for a woman. The victor would then club the woman they were fighting over on the head and drag her by the hair to his cave where "the marriage" would be immediately consummated.

Something fairly similar still happens amongst the violent Pokot community in Kenya. Shocking images were aired last night on KTN TV showing youths whipping each other thoroughly in West Pokot where the victor got the opportunity to get a bride among the 'beautiful' girls watching the bloody duel.

This is how it works. Those seeking brides arrive at the market with several 'escorts' who also participate in the whipping duel with long heavy sticks, but later pull back to allow for a one on one affair between the two men seeking the bride.

Unfortunately, some of the brides have already made up their minds on who they fancy prior to the fights and the young girl was seen on television resisting and almost in tears because the one she loved had lost the duel. You can't imagine what is bound to happen to her when she reaches her new home.

An enthusiastic bride seeker seething with confidence and interviewed by news anchor Catherine Wambua shortly before the duel began, could not have out it better. He excitedly said; "Hapa, ni kiboko ndio ina amua' which means "Here, it is the cane that decides."

A Little creativity made Kenyan man $1,000 in daily profits

This woman has never had sex, the reason will shock you.

  1. Dude,
I'm not particularly impressed by this post. Its lacking heavily in originality and substance. What is ur personal view on this story? How else can u relate this story to your life? I don't really feel u in this post. Seeing as u are a writer I just needed to point out that most of your articles lack in a personal touch. As much as they act as starting points for debates, they dont really say much about u. Apart from the fact that u seem to thrive on contoversy and the mindset that nothing good can come from Kenya.
Just a point to note: Not all news from here is negative and negative news is not always news people want to hear. Fine, alot of crfap happens in Kenya but please show also the good stuff?
Can u prove to your readers that there can actually be somne good emanating from us and our culture.
    Ciku.

  2. Dude,

Keep writing all those crazy stories. Some of your stories are disgusting, embarassing and controversial but most of all humorous. So keep writing what you write. My philosophy when reading kumekucha: Don't bring your serious side and read for enjoyment pleasure, just like watching South Park.

So keep the funny stories coming.

    later,
    Regular reader
