The History of Pepsi

Pepsi-Cola, commonly known as Pepsi, was created by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist in New Bern, North Carolina, in 1893. Originally called "Brad’s Drink," it was renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898, drawing from its ingredients—pepsin and kola nuts. Bradham marketed it as a refreshing drink that aided digestion.

Despite its early success, Pepsi faced bankruptcy in 1923 due to fluctuating sugar prices. The brand was revived in the 1930s by Charles Guth, who reformulated and rebranded it. Pepsi gained popularity during the Great Depression by offering double the quantity of Coca-Cola for the same price, emphasizing value with its "Nickel, Nickel" campaign.

Pepsi's rivalry with Coca-Cola has been a hallmark of its history, characterized by innovative advertising, such as the "Pepsi Generation" campaign in the 1960s and the "Pepsi Challenge" in the 1970s. Today, PepsiCo is a global leader in the beverage and snack industry, known for its diverse product portfolio and commitment to sustainability.
