Deputy President William Ruto is a figure who seems to remain in the news, whether he's speaking or staying quiet, sparking a lot of questions and speculation about his actions. Recently, there has been a lot of noise, especially from central Kenya, with many complaints about his bid for the 2022 election. Critics are worried about how Ruto is already positioning people in key places, and some are watching the unfolding situation closely. However, I believe much of this uproar is unnecessary. A few days ago, while doing research on the Governor of Machakos, I discovered some interesting facts. One notable point was that certain political figures are positioning themselves as spoilers in order to prevent other candidates from succeeding in the upcoming election. Some of these figures are well-financed and are expected to cause a significant stir.
Machakos, a region that includes areas like at River, has a large population of diverse ethnic groups, such as the Kamba and Kikuyu. Naturally, candidates from this region have the potential to attract considerable support, and it's clear that Ruto has been working to spread his influence in various regions, including Machakos. One of the most controversial figures recently has been the independent candidate for Machakos governor, who has been gaining traction despite not being backed by any major political party.
Now, while many people criticize Deputy President Ruto for his early campaign for 2022, they fail to see the clever political maneuvering behind it. Although some argue that he should focus on the 2017 elections first, I believe his strategy is quite smart. By assisting others to get into power now, he positions himself to leverage his influence when the 2022 election rolls around. It’s almost like a negotiation, where he helps others rise now, knowing that he will eventually take control. This is a strategy that has worked for Ruto in the past, and many people underestimate his political acumen.
Ruto is a master strategist, like a chess player in the political arena, carefully considering his moves. His early push for the 2022 election may seem premature to some, but it could give him a significant advantage when the time comes. However, as with all politics, there is a level of unpredictability, and it’s hard to say for certain whether his strategy will succeed.
In addition to this, there is still some mystery surrounding the early part of this year, when President Kenyatta's mother, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, visited Ruto and discussed support for his re-election. After this meeting, there was a fast-paced shift in political strategies. This visit could have been a sign of deeper political negotiations, and it raises the question: Could it be that Ruto's early campaign for 2022 was a strategic move set in motion earlier by the political elites?
Though I have no concrete evidence, I strongly believe that this is part of a larger strategy that we're still trying to fully understand. Politics is often about observing actions and reading between the lines to predict what will happen next. For now, it seems Ruto is playing a long game, and only time will tell if this strategy will pay off.
