Rigathi Gachagua Drama And DP Ruto:What We Are Not being Told

There are several concerning issues related to the recent events involving Rigathi Gachagua that are deeply troubling for any patriotic Kenyan who truly cares about the country's future. In Kenya today, it's no longer about being Kenyan first; instead, we are divided into die-hard supporters of Tangatanga and Kieleweke factions, as well as followers of Deputy President William Ruto and Raila Odinga. True Kenyan unity is rare now.

For those who haven’t been following the news, Gachagua is the Member of Parliament for Mathira, Nyeri. He was arrested yesterday at his home in Nyeri and transported to Nairobi. Gachagua is a staunch ally and close personal friend of Deputy President Ruto, and interestingly, he is also the brother of the late politician, Nderitu Gachagua.

Now, let’s delve into the disturbing developments surrounding his arrest. Shortly after Gachagua was taken by DCI officers, something strange occurred. Near Karatina, some youths staged a protest, blocking the road to express their displeasure about the state’s interference with their favored legislator. What’s even more curious is that another group of youths emerged, holding placards in support of his arrest. Think about this for a moment: for a protest to be organized, there needs to be prior preparation—gathering people, making signs, and planning the message. So, how did these youths know about the arrest in advance? The only plausible explanation is that they were tipped off.

Additionally, Dennis Ole Itumbi, a member of the DP’s camp, seemed to have prior knowledge of Gachagua’s arrest. He even posted about it online before it happened. In fact, he’s also predicted that Moses Kuria, the MP for Gatundu South, will be arrested next week. Let’s see if that prediction comes true.

Why is all this troubling? In any country, it’s unusual for the authorities to announce an arrest before it happens, as it can lead to the target fleeing, warning accomplices, or destroying evidence. So why were people aware of the arrest in advance? This suggests there’s a serious issue within our security forces, particularly with officers aligned with Deputy President Ruto, who may be leaking sensitive information about ongoing investigations. This is dangerous and a direct threat to national security. It’s one thing for politicians to be divided, but it’s a whole other matter when security forces themselves are divided along political lines.

This is not the first time figures close to Ruto, like Itumbi, have had inside information about police operations. For supporters of the Deputy President, this might seem harmless, but for those in opposition, it’s deeply concerning. If Ruto takes office after the 2022 elections, his supporters might also start questioning why such information is leaking, especially if it involves arrests of their allies.

Another intriguing aspect of Gachagua’s story is his past. Between 2001 and 2006, he was a personal assistant to Uhuru Kenyatta. When you’re that close to someone, you know their secrets and can potentially use that information if you switch sides. Gachagua’s political shift to Ruto’s camp would understandably raise suspicions, and it’s natural for his former colleagues in the government to keep a close watch on him.

The issue also raises questions about why Gachagua fell out with his former boss politically. There must have been a compelling reason behind it. However, the situation becomes more confusing when we consider that he’s now being closely monitored, possibly due to his involvement in a money laundering case.

It’s important to note that some of the information circulating about Gachagua’s arrest seems premature. People are already talking about trumped-up charges before he’s even been formally charged. It's impossible to judge whether the charges are fabricated without the facts. Furthermore, the claim that the arrest is due to the government’s bitterness over a recent electoral loss in Kiambaa seems questionable. The race was tight, not a landslide, and the government had little direct involvement in the campaign.

The bigger picture suggests that Gachagua’s arrest may be linked to his past activities, particularly his former close ties to Uhuru Kenyatta. This could be creating unease among those in power who now see him as a potential threat.

Lastly, there’s something deeply troubling about how individuals are arrested these days, especially on Fridays, to ensure they spend the entire weekend in police custody. This tactic seems intended as a form of punishment before a court hearing, which is not only unconstitutional but also malicious. It’s a strategy that can easily be turned against the government by political opponents, even if they are in the wrong.

The bottom line is that if Gachagua’s arrest is politically motivated, it likely stems from his past affiliations and the current political rivalry. The fear is that this could become a dangerous precedent for the future, where political enemies are targeted unfairly.

As patriotic Kenyans, we must remain vigilant about such practices, as what happens to Gachagua today could affect any of us tomorrow. It’s crucial to stand up against any illegal actions, no matter the individual involved, to protect the integrity of our constitution and the rule of law.
