In a recent speech to Wiper Party members, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka's remarks were widely misquoted, sparking a fake story that he intended to leave Azimio la Umoja. Claims that Kalonzo criticized Azimio’s focus on demonstrations and suggested abandoning mass protests to advocate for changes at the IEBC were entirely false. To clarify, Kalonzo is not defecting from Azimio. While defections from other prominent Azimio leaders may be expected, Kalonzo is not among them.
Kalonzo’s Reflections and Body Language
During the speech, Kalonzo revisited the decision by Azimio to have Martha Karua as Raila Odinga's running mate, instead of himself. Observing his body language, one might infer he believes his inclusion in the campaign could have potentially altered the political outcome. The Kamba community, his political base, was reportedly unhappy with this decision. Nonetheless, Kalonzo’s commitment to Azimio remains firm.
Tribalism and the Need for Unity
Kenyan politics has long been plagued by tribalism and jealousy. Kalonzo emphasized the importance of moving beyond tribal and gender biases to build a unified Kenya. A nation’s success hinges on collective effort and equitable opportunities for all communities and genders.
However, the Kamba community, as highlighted in the address, faces unique internal challenges, including what has been termed "crab mentality." This phenomenon describes individuals pulling each other down, preventing collective progress. Such behavior has stunted the growth of regions like Machakos, which despite its historical significance as Kenya’s first capital, lags behind Nairobi in development.
Call for Repentance and Change
Kalonzo called on the Kamba community to repent for sins such as jealousy, envy, and reliance on witchcraft. These spiritual shortcomings, he warned, are drawing divine judgment. By embracing repentance and unity, the community can pave the way for a brighter future.
Economic Challenges and Solutions
The address also touched on Kenya's ongoing economic struggles. Drawing from personal insights, the speaker urged individuals to adapt to these trying times by identifying opportunities amidst adversity. A special offer for a video series and eBooks on prospering during crises was promoted, emphasizing that fortunes are often built during challenging periods.
As Kenya grapples with political, social, and economic challenges, the message is clear: unity, repentance, and strategic thinking are essential for progress.
