The biggest problem we have in Kenya today is the fact that a man called William Samoei Ruto believes that he can fix the current crisis in Kenya. He believes he has it. Indeed there are times when his actions have implied that deep inside he does not believe that we have any serious problem in the country today.
And this is extremely scary. The reason being that this exact situation has happened in Kenya before and the resultant consequences. I've never been able to fully digest.
You see I was there watching it all unfold whilst reporting and getting minute by minute reports as well as receiving photographs of the horror that was unfolding in the country that would never have happened, had the president been more realistic and cautious. I am of course talking about the year 2008.

That was when we had a man called Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki as president. Kibaki firmly believed he had the capability and the presidential powers to fix the crisis when it started emerging. This was shortly after he had stolen the presidential election from Raila Odinga in the December 2007 General elections.
In my opinion, the biggest problem here that could cause a man to think like this, is the fact that some of us (indeed even those reading this today) is that they worship something called State machinery. They falsely believe that there's nothing that state machinery cannot do.
Naturally this is NOT true. Maybe if State Machinery was totally run by robots then maybe it would have been possible. But the reality is that dreaded, powerful state machinery is run by humans with emotions. And with human nature, where so many things can go wrong and often do.
The bottom line of all that I'm saying is that this Kenyan crisis cannot and will never be solved until President Ruto realizes the reality of what faces him. Before that happens it is very unlikely that any talks will yield much.
And what this means is that the country called Kenya is faced with deadly future as it is unlikely that Ruto will change his position any time soon.
According to experts, when a leader believes they can handle a crisis but ultimately cannot, it can have significant psychological implications. And remember, that in this scenario we are talking about the leader of country which means that their citizens are bound to bare the brunt of the consequences. Experts advise that it is important for leaders to strike a balance between confidence and caution when facing crises. Seeking input from experts, acknowledging limitations, and being open to feedback are crucial steps towards effective crisis management. By understanding the psychological factors at play, leaders can better navigate challenging situations and make informed decisions for the benefit of their teams and nations.
