Why the most dangerous situation for Kenya today is that Ruto believes he can fix this

The biggest problem we have in Kenya today is the fact that a man called William Samoei Ruto believes that he can fix the current crisis in Kenya. He believes he has it. Indeed there are times when his actions have implied that deep inside he does not believe that we have any serious problem in the country today.

Why should that be a major issue, you ask? Well, it is a problem because the truth is he doesn't have this. And he can't fix this.

And this is extremely scary. The reason being that this exact situation has happened in Kenya before and the resultant consequences. I've never been able to fully digest.

You see I was there watching it all unfold whilst reporting and getting minute by minute reports as well as receiving photographs of the horror that was unfolding in the country that would never have happened, had the president been more realistic and cautious. I am of course talking about the year 2008.

That was when we had a man called Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki as president. Kibaki firmly believed he had the capability and the presidential powers to fix the crisis when it started emerging. This was shortly after he had stolen the presidential election from Raila Odinga in the December 2007 General elections.

In my opinion, the biggest problem here that could cause a man to think like this, is the fact that some of us (indeed even those reading this today) is that they worship something called State machinery. They falsely believe that there's nothing that state machinery cannot do.

---

Naturally this is NOT true. Maybe if State Machinery was totally run by robots then maybe it would have been possible. But the reality is that dreaded, powerful state machinery is run by humans with emotions. And with human nature, where so many things can go wrong and often do.

The bottom line of all that I'm saying is that this Kenyan crisis cannot and will never be solved until President Ruto realizes the reality of what faces him. Before that happens it is very unlikely that any talks will yield much.

And what this means is that the country called Kenya is faced with deadly future as it is unlikely that Ruto will change his position any time soon.

According to experts, when a leader believes they can handle a crisis but ultimately cannot, it can have significant psychological implications. Psychiatrists suggest that this mindset is often rooted in overconfidence or an inflated sense of self-assurance. In such situations, leaders may experience cognitive biases that cloud their judgment and decision-making abilities. They may underestimate the complexity of the crisis or fail to recognize their own limitations. This can lead to poor decision-making, ineffective strategies, and ultimately worsen the situation at hand. Psychiatrists also highlight the role of ego and pride in shaping this belief system. Leaders who are overly confident may be driven by a desire to maintain their reputation or prove themselves capable in challenging circumstances. However, this mindset can prevent them from seeking help or considering alternative perspectives, leading to further complications. And remember, that in this scenario we are talking about the leader of country which means that their citizens are bound to bare the brunt of the consequences. Experts advise that it is important for leaders to strike a balance between confidence and caution when facing crises. Seeking input from experts, acknowledging limitations, and being open to feedback are crucial steps towards effective crisis management. By understanding the psychological factors at play, leaders can better navigate challenging situations and make informed decisions for the benefit of their teams and nations.

Most Kenyans were not aware of it, but the appointment of the new director of public prosecutions Noordin Haji to be Ruto's first National Intelligence Services Director General was very significant for anybody following up on clues to answer many disturbing questions concerning what exactly happened last August during the mysterious Presidential elections. John Jomo succeeded in his prayers to the court and Justice Jairus Ngaah issued an injunction prohibiting the agency from requiring Jomo Kenyatta junior to surrender his pistol without first going through the laid down legal process. But how will the Ruto government respond? Here are a few possible "crazy" scenarios.

Those who saw Hussein Mohamed during his distinguished career as a Citizen TV journalist may be excused for feeling pity for him watching his body language a few hours ago as he fielded a question about Raila's claim that President Ruto invited the Tanzanian president to Kenya to mediate talks between him and Raila Odinga, only to snub her. President Samia Suluhu Hassan then left the country after two nights at a Nairobi hotel waiting in vain.

Mohamed started off laughing nervously when the question was posed. He then followed it up with his shifty answer which hardly made sense.

In just a handful of days, what happened in Nyalenda, Kisumu recently has moved from being highly sensitive to the Ruto government to something being discussed openly. And surprisingly, the international media and community are suddenly leading the discussions and showing great concern.

Raila Odinga in a press conference with the international press in Nairobi yesterday even went on to use the phrase “ethnic cleansing” and made comparisons with similar happenings from the past from all over the world. Read Chris Kumekucha full article
