I don't know if you know this but this increase in VAT tax on fuel of 16 percent was first introduced into Parliament in the year 2013. But the Uhuru Kenyatta government applied emergency brakes and halted the plan.
And yet they had the power to push it through. They could have done it easily because they had the numbers in Parliament. But instead they decided to apply emergency brakes.

Why did they do that? Are these people idiots? Was the Kenyatta government stupid? Were they not thinking straight? Were they not brave enough?
Put very simpRutly, the Uhuru Kenyatta administration realized that the political backlash from the people of Kenya would have been so huge that the very survival of that administration would have been in grave danger. That's why they stopped it.
Is the situation any different today, under the Ruto administration?
