Uhuru: It Wasn't Me, Blame the Computers

Kenyans are so fast at pointing fingers even at SAINTS. Now all and sundry are baying for Jomo Junior’s blood for a mistake the PRINCE didn’t make. What is more, Uhuru has equivocally clarified that the SMALL discrepancy of KES 9.2 BILLION was a computer error. What other further proof do Kenyans want from an INDUSTRIOUS and hard working politician.

For the records Uhuru is not naive to burn his fingers by engaging in silly/petty thefts. Son of Ngina was born and destined for bigger things and marauding Kenyans must give him a break. He tops the 2012 presidential wish list and that makes him a magnet of barbs in all shapes and form.

Finance Ministry is not meant for minions and unlike other dockets must be tightly guarded. UK has apologized and we must take him for his word. If anything a billion is just but some nine zeroes and such grandiose errors in 200 columns is human. We must trust Muigai with the hard task of formulating national budget next month.

But PRINCE UK is smart enough to know when to face camera and without blinking declare IT WASN’T ME. Well, Shaggy the singer had no clue when he belted that number. The DPM smells political heat miles away and with Marende breathing fire through parliamentary committee attack dogs UK knows nobody ever constipated from and overdose of humble pie.

Executive ministry
But the whole saga leaves national bitter taste. Are all the MPs so busy they blindly pass such a colossal amount of tax payers money without scrutiny? The joke is on us people as Kenya’s gatekeepers re-enforce the grills with every trick available to them.

If only computers could talk then we would know for sure how easily we are fooled as a nation. The truth is you don’t inaugurate yourself at midnight and sleep pretty without going overdrive to accomplish the Grand Mission of auctioning even the unborn Kenyan. We haven’t seen anything yet.

  2. Taabu, sorry to digress, but there is an issue of NATIONAL IMPORTANCE that we need to address.

Aii jameni, are we kenyans such fools that uhuru- FINANCE MINISTER and AN ASPIRING PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE can bring up such an excuse to explain himself after being caught red handed with his hands in the cookie jar?

Of course, his supporters and party will support this theory, and as usual, the FOSSILIZED SLOTH will stay mum and hope the next crisis 'solves the problem'

When THEFT, DECEPTION AND FRAUD runs in one's blood, the only remedy is to be subjected to a thorough lynching.

What about treasury officials? who are they and can anyone give us the geographical distribution? No wonder treasury shall remain a reserve of Mt Kenya;to perpetuate and conceal theft. Our Kenya shall never be the same. What about Ringera? Will he act on this. NEVER! he will also insist it was a human error and might insunate the minister has apologized! Ridiculous Kenya.

Kenya is a joke. If the finance Minister can adopt such a casual stance with the BUDGET! and missing 9 Billion shillings when people are starving then we really are doomed!

  8. Hurray Taabu,

Have it occured to you that you have been doing a terrible COVERUP by covering up Raila'a evils in Kumekucha?

First it was Mau forest issue that you hushed it up when the committee Raila had appointed himself brought not so shoking revelations that the forest had infact been hived of by CURRENT ODM POLITICIANS. You actually deleted some of your readers comments to this effect.

Last week when another parliamentary committee on agriculture with serving ODM MPS in attendance brought a shoking revelation that RAILA AND HIS FAMILY AND ASSOCIATES engineered the MAIZE SCANDAL, Chris went underground for 4 days. Kumekucha literally went blank. Chris, you cannot purport to stand on the pedestal of honesty, promote your blog along these lines only when your sworn enemies are involved and do a shoddy cover up in protecting your political sponsors. Thats shows how cheaply auctionable your principles are. It is noteworthy also your partner in this "CRIME" aka Taabu of DECEIT and FRAUD had conveniently taken a holiday from Kumekucha until today when a story about UK has been published.

See how quickly Taabu recycles it here? where was he when Raila SCANDAL was in the media??

    Bunch of hypocrites!!

  25. 1. Garbage-in-garbage-out. Computers cannot be blamed for inflating figures. They only respond to the instructions given. The era of blaming computers ended decades ago. If indeed, the computers are to blame, why has'nt UK ordered that they be disposed of immediately and more accurate ones bought? They will repeat the same mistake come budget day!!

    2. UK does not even look apologetic that the country was about to lose 10 billion shillings due to human error. This thing was planned and executed, and when caught with pants down, now the computer (which cannot reply or be sacked) is to blame!!

    3. If it was due to human error, those humans must be shown the door immediately before they send the whole budget money into a bottomless pit.

    ReplyDelete
  26. at least uhuru admitted to human error and he didnt jump around saying it was a witch hunt. there's a lot to admire in such maturity of response.
on the other hand, look at the half blind, stuttering bumpkin. what did he do? he dismissed the allegations, claiming dirty politics, his minions started alleging witch hunt, tribalism and the usual dirt. now, what would happen if there is, god forbid, solid evidence that the deed was actually done? that maize intended for the starving and the dying was diverted for individual profit? by the bumpkin, his spawn and associates? will he wage another war against kikuyu, promising to completely wipe them off the face of the earth as he tried last year?
i really hope that Obama is watching keenly as many on this blog have intimated.

    Obama invitation row
Updated on: Saturday, May 09, 2009
    Story by: Kipngeno Cheruiyot
    ....................................................................................................................................................................................

US President Barack Obama has invited Raila Odinga to the White House, sparking off anxiety that pundits say is already stoking the strains within the Grand Coalition government. According to impeccable sources, the visit which is scheduled for between 20th May has set alarm bells off within the ranks of Party of National Unity (PNU). The latest development comes hot in the heels of a similar invitation by the South African government to the PM to attend Jacob Zuma’s inauguration as President later today.

Raila did not travel to South Africa when it become obvious that it could complicate diplomatic etiquette since President Kibaki was also going for the inauguration and that the PM could only travel as a member of presidential entourage. The anticipated visit also comes after the US gave the coalition government through several letters since its formation slightly over a year ago, conditions it must meet if it is to continue enjoying bilateral relations with the Washington. A source told Kenya Times that the revelation of Raila’s invitation to White House sent jitters among PNU officials who are reported to be wondering why the invitation was not to President Kibaki as the Head of State.

An influential PNU legislator who did not wish to be named termed the invitation as “irresponsible…nbsp; noting that the fact that President Kibaki was kept in the dark over the invitation smacked of ill-intent and expressed reservation about the attention the ODM leader appear to be getting internationally. “There is protocol in the way things are done. Inviting the Prime Minister and leaving out President Kibaki means that either the US does not recognize Mr Kibaki as the Head of State or the invitation can be termed blatantly discriminatory,…nbsp; said the MP. However, the MP conceded that PNU would have no problem if it turns out that the invitation to Raila was a pre-arranged informal meeting between the two political figures.

Following the revelation, another senior PNU operative who is not a Member of Parliament but sits on the party’s National Governing Council meetings said the issue had been brought to their attention. Said he: “The issue could come up during the PNU retreat where the party will be discussing the discontent and voices of difference of opinion within the coalition,…nbsp; he told us. PNU leaders under the chairmanship of chairman Prof George Saitoti are converging at the Lake Nakuru Leisure Lodge for a two -day retreat where it will discuss the latest development in the Grand Coalition government especially the row over the leader of House Business Committee and the implications of House Speaker Ken Marende’s ruling that he would chair the agenda setting House organ.

An aide who sought anonymity confirmed the invitation to the prime minister scheduled for May 20, less than a fortnight from today. The aide said Raila will be hosted by President Obama and First Lady Michelle. However, it was not immediately clear how long the visit would last. It was not also clear who among the high ranking government officials, including Cabinet ministers would accompany the PM to the trip. The aide however, concede that the invitation had generated considerable interest and that several ministers and assistant ministers had booked appointments with the PM to discuss the matter.

Efforts to get details on the invitation from Director of Communication in the PM’s office Dennis Onyango were fruitless as he did not get back to us as earlier promised. If the invitation is honoured, Raila will be the first African leader to be hosted by President Obama, a son of Kenyan father whose administration is about 100 days old. Another source told us that Raila’s earlier statement that he would not attend Zuma’s inauguration as a result of other engagements was not factual, adding that the PM had in fact confirmed attendance with air tickets to and from South Africa being set. The hotel where he would have been booked in had also been confirmed.

The source further reported that Raila had been slotted in the programme during the inauguration event and was supposed to have held a meeting with Kenyans in South Africa last evening at an address in Johannesburg. Later today, after the inauguration of Zuma, the PM was to have given a lecture at Pretoria University. It is often a requirement that any government official making a trip abroad is cleared by the Office of the President. It is said that officials at OP did not make the necessary facilitation for the PM to travel, resulting in his cancellation of the South African trip.

It is said that it was after this cancellation that they were informed of the Obama invitation. During his last term in office, former US President George Bush extended a similar invitation to President Kibaki at the White House making him one among the few African leaders ever to receive such an honour. Obama is also reported to hold President Kibaki favourably, arising from the fact that Kibaki as Finance minister in most of the 1980s was Obama Senior’s boss, having gone out of his way to ensure Obama had a job. Mr Obama late last month warned the two principals that political feuds that the coalition had suffered in the previous months put the country in serious jeopardy of renewed violence if the underlying causes were not sorted out.

Through the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Obama wrote to President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga urging them to hasten the reform process. Said Obama in the letter: “Kenya and the United States share a long history of corporation and mutual support.…nbsp; “It is that spirit that I am writing to urge you to intensify your efforts to advance the reforms and accountability agenda agreed by all parties last year,…nbsp; added the letter in part.

It at the same time decried the slow pace of the reform process, saying underlying causes of the 2007 post-election violence posed instability to the detriment of close to 40 million Kenyans as well as shared interests of the two countries. Obama in the letter was firm that the Government must also hold those responsible for perpetrating corruption as well as suspects in post-poll chaos. Corrupt elements he noted should be weeded out while a special tribunal to try perpetrators of violence is set up. “The United Sates deeply values its relations with Kenya. We stand ready to support your efforts to accelerate the reform and lay the ground work for a peaceful future,…nbsp; added Mrs Clinton in the letter.

Given Kenya’s geo-strategic importance and as the regional economic hub, the international community has maintained interest in the coalition government that was brokered by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. The latest stalemate over HBC which remains unresolved has been fuelled by differences over who should hold sway in determining crucial government business. At the heart of the conflict is the House Business Committee (HBC) - the House organ that sets the agenda for parliamentary debate. The deadlock in Parliament was a culmination of weeks of suspicion between the two principals and their brigades. Early last month, PNU and ODM leaders congregated at the Kilaguni Lodge, to explore ways of managing the coalition but the two parties could not agree on the agenda and the talks collapsed.

    (b) 7 out of 10, are the HERD minded persons. This group is influenced by the QUANTITY minded persons. So, this group follows the QUANTITY minded persons.

    (c) 1 out of 10, are the QUALITY minded men. No wonder, one ancient greek philosopher said we should have philosopher king.

It is only when this tiny group is given the chance, a society can prosper. Look no further than ancient Greece. When the QUALITY minded men were influential, it flourished. Contrast that with what happened when Alexander, a QUANTITY minded man landed in ancient Greece.

I peruse thru' several blogs a day in my search for information and I will quickly tell you that blogs are like church denominations, they target a certain audience. When you visit a church and you find the service or sermon boring and not exciting, what do you do? Do you go to the front, yelling at the top of your voice and frothing at the mouth as you release expletives at the congregation and Pastor about how they should run a service? No. You leave quietly and search for a church that meets your expectations. PLEASE DO THE SAME WITH BLOGS. If you run a blog that addresses all issues without favour, your clientele will be very few and it will take you decades to hit the 1 million readership mark. The truth is everybody (you included) is inclined towards one faction or the other, and you will prefer listening more from that faction. Those who are truly not leaning towards any side are very few and they also most likely have no passion nor time to read and contribute in blogs. So dear Rose, make your choice and do the necessary.

  40. Parliament must deal with Uhuru firmly

    http://www.eastandard.net/InsidePage.php?id=1144013746&cid=4&ttl=Parliament%20must%20deal%20with%20Uhuru%20firmly

There are many things that could be said of Finance Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s casual concession the Sh9.2 billion puzzle in the Supplementary Estimates could have been due to a ‘typing’ or ‘computer’ error.

Were it not that it is too serious a matter, where Treasury would have comfortably withdrew from Consolidated Fund Sh31 billion instead of Sh26 billion Parliament approved, it would be laughable.

Because of the spirited manner the Deputy Prime Minister defended the figures when an MP first questioned their veracity in the House, and accused him of naivety and ignorance on budgetary issues, one could say he had done his homework.

By language and disposition, self-praise and the posturing of infallibility, and by attacking Speaker Kenneth Marende when he referred the matter to the joint Finance and Budgeting committees, Uhuru cast the image of a man who knew what he was saying.

He said Mr Gitobu Imanyara who raised the issue had been misled by "advisors of questionable professional credibility" to misunderstand simple accounting methods and the rationale for supplementary budget. Then on the day the two committees sat, he told journalists he had goofed, but blamed it on a ‘typing’ or ‘computer’ error.

True, he could be right, there could have been no intention to defraud taxpayers by loading the extra Sh9.2 billion on a lesser figure sought by Treasury and approved by Parliament.

But even to a layman, surely with the myriad technocrats working under him, and his own expertise, and believably working with a toothcomb, it would not have been impossible to single out the discrepancy.

Why? Because, the total amount was just Sh26 billion, and the disputed figure of Sh9.2 billion is 34 per cent of what he sought. What Uhuru conceded could first, point at a more serious problem at the Treasury, he is surrounded by incompetent and negligent technocrats.

Secondly, if the first were true, he is personally not up to the job he was given in January otherwise he would have dug out the inconsistencies before rushing to Parliament.

    Anglo Leasing-type contracts

Thirdly, if he is competent to be entrusted with the task of guarding the national granary and did not see the discrepancy, then the question has to be asked about his frame of mind. Does he deploy his intellect, time and energy to his job or is he distracted? Fourthly, has Uhuru forgotten Treasury is as it were when the 18 Anglo Leasing-type contracts were signed and for which Kenya today is faced with risk of unnecessarily paying Sh56 billion – for contravening its contractual obligation? Would it require a rocket scientist to know one or two of the Treasury mandarins can sneak in vote items for payment of Anglo Leasing ‘ghosts’ in Uhuru’s Budget? It has happened before.

Fifthly, and which Uhuru would be grappling with in Parliament, was he up to some mischief? Computers, after all, only processes data fed by human.

Kenyans want to know if there was mischief by Treasury chiefs. The only way to clear Uhuru and restore the integrity of our budget, and confidence in Treasury, is for Parliament to order an independent audit of 2008-2009 Budget. The matter is grave and that is what public interest requires. It is unrealistic to envisage a situation where this can be done with Uhuru still in office.

An influential PNU legislator who did not wish to be named termed the invitation as “irresponsible noting that the fact that President Kibaki was kept in the dark over the invitation smacked of ill-intent and expressed reservation about the attention the ODM leader appear to be getting internationally. “There is protocol in the way things are done. Inviting the Prime Minister and leaving out President Kibaki means that either the US does not recognize Mr Kibaki as the Head of State or the invitation can be termed blatantly discriminatory, said the MP.

Said he: “The issue could come up during the PNU retreat where the party will be discussing the discontent and voices of difference of opinion within the coalition, he told us.

Said Obama in the letter: “Kenya and the United States share a long history of corporation and mutual support. “It is that spirit that I am writing to urge you to intensify your efforts to advance the reforms and accountability agenda agreed by all parties last year, added the letter in part.

We stand ready to support your efforts to accelerate the reform and lay the ground work for a peaceful future, added Mrs Clinton in the letter.

Why selective criticism in Kenyan Blogs?
The following appeared as a comment by "Concerned Rose" in response to the post below this one on the current queries about Uhuru Kenyatta's closed eyes on the 9.6 billion missing...

"Winston Churchhill once said “Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.”

"I am a disappointed Kenyan. Disappointed because of a scaring trend that has emerged as far as fair reporting of Kenya’s politics is concerned. Many Kenyans who frequent the many blogs discussing Kenyan politics will agree with me that most of the blogs are mouth pieces of some political parties. The owners of the blogs only publish stories demonizing one of the political party's mostly unfairly quoting faceless sources. When for example a report compiled by MP’s from both political divide finds foul play on the part of the Prime Minister and his family concerning the Maize Scandal, these blogs literally continued running unrelated stories and their owners literally deleted comments from concerned Kenyans that faulted Raila. Kumekucha led in this end. Other blogs choose to recycle old stories.

Imagine if the committee had found Kibaki guilty of the sleeze? All blogs would have published the story as ‘Breaking News’. And I bet the story would have run for days. Why the hypocrisy?

When blogs that purport to lead the war of redeeming the country are involved in cover ups when their so called ‘democrats’ are caught with their snouts in the public coffers, then how do we expect a better Kenya? Where are the honest Kenyans in the blogosphere to lead the way since the road is packed with wolves in sheep skins?

I sign off with wise words from Joseph Joubert; “Children need role models rather than critics.” Don’t shake your head I know,…. that is asking too much."

  54. Why did Kibaki refuse Raila to go to the Zuma inaugration with him and yet I saw Mugabe and Tsivangirai there?

  55. There is no other blog like Mashada. All sides of political divide are always put under scrunity in mashada unlike Kumekucha the foot soilder of ODM.

Have you noticed many people are no longer in this site. The site has lost it completely and the only people left here are idiotic pyschos who haven't got a life.
If there is any good person leave here I urge you to left with immediate effect.

  56. Two days ago I tried to post my opinions, which were completely neutral but this blog decided not to allow them. I had earlier thought that they don't allow comments that appear to insult Raila. I voted for Raila in 2007 but only realised that all the current leaders are incompetent.....

So why, when I decide to be neutral, while encouraging people to make comments that will improve Kenya, is my post not allowed? Right now I still believe that that was also a computer problem. I was so neutral that I don't think Kumekucha did not allow it. Maybe I'll know from this one.

But I've also noticed that Kumekucha also leans on one side. Though I still support Raila I don't think it's proper to allow insults towards Kibaki and delete those towards Raila. It'll be better to delete all. Otherwise if you do that then, if in my dreams I meet Raila I'll blatantly tell him I'll never support him because of Kumekucha blog.

  57. Thank God my blog has been allowed. So the earlier that was not allowed seems to have been caused by 'computer problem'. But I still maintain that Kumekucha needs to improve and stop leaning on one side. I've been with Kumekucha for a long time and liked them for neutrality, which maybe was easier because most wrongdoings were done by PNU stalwarts. But now we see ODM damu leaders also doing the same mistake. If we have to improve Kenya we should not practice selective criticism.

The same way wrongs done by PNU/ODM Kenya are brought here is the same way wrongs done by ODM should be brought. We all know about mau crisis, maize scandal etc. In the same way we doubt Mutula Kilonzo's leadership in bringing reform is the same way I highly doubt Ruto's leadership in bringing reform in agricultural sector, or Kajwang bringing reform in immigration sector. Let's be sincere and not practice this selective criticism.

Thanks and I hope this post will not be deleted, rather Kumekucha will take my criticism kindly. For sometimes it's so easy, even to an intellectual to control oneself from leaning on one side, that's why we are also here, to tell Kumekucha to watch out otherwise they might find themselves.....

  58. Kumekucha is a place for perverts (those who stay all night watching porn on the internet) lonely souls, troubled souls, pyschotic souls, deranged individuals, bitter and twisted souls like Taabu.

good people, its time to leave!

Maize scandal started with Ruto, then went to Lucy Kibaki and Family and now has reached Raila.

As far as I am concerned, this blog dealt with Ruto extensively. Lucy was spared and Raila too. Every fool knows that the Raila's connection to the Maize scandal is political to tarnish his name focussing 2012. Yeah Ruto's was also propaganda focussing Madoadoa post-election violence. The man who mentioned Lucy's name was forced to eat his words.

Remember Ruto is in ODM, while Kibaki is in PANUA. Why did this blog allowed Ruto to be discussed and not Lucy?

Can you really claim that this blog is biased?

  60. Who is fooling who? Diaspora people have been coned.
In Kiambu, hard working Kenyans in the US have been sold bogus land. They are out to lose millions.

Now you Kenyans supporting corruption, what do you say? Is Kimunya good, is Uhuru perfect? What of Anglo-Lease Kiraitu?

Why dont you want Orengo to streamline the ministry and let past injustices in Central and RV corrected?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Also I highly doubt if Uhuru will be removed from Finance docket. If this is done then he's likely to be given a break and to be returned to another powerful docket.

This is a big blow to PNU who are grooming UK to contend for presidency. I know very well and maybe you may all know that Kalonzo will never be given this, since you and I know that Kalonzo is also not trusted by the 'mafias'.

Let me continue with my political analysis that i know is wrong...

It will be easier for members of Muthaiga club and Kiambu mafia (Mt Kenya mafia are not that powerful nowadays) to support Raila than to support Kalonzo. In fact when thay are pushed to the limit they will prefer to support Martha Karua.

They know very well that Martha Karua assisted in vote stealing, which, even after spanking her several times in the ass and forcing her to live her powerful ministry, she did not divulge. In the same way Raila can be closer to Moi than most of you think since they also got involved together in mollasses affairs, is the same way Martha and Muthaiga club members and Kiambu mafia can be close with Martha.

They also know that Martha was involved in murder of John Mbai and she will never divulge details of vote stealing.

As we are speaking now, and following details from my reliable source, which is better than NSIS details, Martha is very aware that imminent dwindling of UK popularity in national politics is a blessing in disguise for her. Mt kenya mafia, Kiambu mafia and Muthaiga club members are also aware that Martha will have the advantage as a result of her being a Kikuyu and a waman, which is enough to make her win 2012 election.

You will all notice that as UK's popularity dwindles so will you realise that firstly Mt Kenya mafia, followed by Kiambu mafia, will stop accusing Martha or poiting fingers at her, even a toddler can notice that that has already started.

So as people of Kenya if you don't want Martha to be the next president then you shouldn't accuse Uhuru, for his failure is a sure ticket for Martha to presidency in 2012, nobody will stop it apart from an assasin bullet, which I highly doubt if it ever happen, especially from the PNU side.

I hope Raila is reading my political analysis. If he thinks going to Prophet of Doom and publicise his getting born again will attract votes in 2012 then I'm sorry for him, Kalonzo failed with that strategy. Raila should request for my help since I have the formula for him to win 2012 election.

High chances were that Kalonzo, UK and Ruto wanted to run together as one, which is unlikely unless they both accept Kalonzo to be President, UK to be Prime Minister and Ruto to be vice president. Which I highly doubt it will ever happen. However, if they do that then they are assured to get the post.

I'll contunue with my analysis later, which will tell you why the people to watch are Martha Karua, Raila (if he'll read my political analysis here in future) and "that young man that we still don't know".

    Thank you.
