Confusion Within ODM As Ruto Calls For Fresh Elections

There has never been as much tension as what has been witnessed within inner ODM circles this weekend. Actually tension and lots of confusion.

The clearest sign was the fact that for the first time William Ruto seemed to sing a very different song from that of his boss Raila Odinga.

Raila spoke in Nairobi yesterday and told legislators at a meeting that Kenyans should be patient and give both him and the President a little more time to resolve the current impasse over the naming of the coalition cabinet.

Ruto speaking in Eldoret sounded extremely impatient and said bluntly that if PNU did not want to share government then they should say so early enough and prepare themselves for another general election. This statement has already caused a lot of discomfort from the Safaricom-government-inner circle-IPO-busy PNU lot.

Still, some very disturbing reports reaching me indicate that there is deep division within ODM that has been triggered off by the issue of Safaricom shares. For now the prominent names said to be still backing Raila to the hilt on his decision to ask Kenyans to buy Safaricom shares after all promising that irregularities will be sorted out later, was Hon Musalia Mudavadi and Hon Dalmas Otieno.

Prof Anyang Nyong’o and virtually all other party big wigs are deeply disturbed by the double speak that has been coming from the party over the last few days. Probably the greatest embarrassment was the fact that ODM announced mass action to protest the sale of Safaricom shares one day and then the very next day Raila Odinga himself came out and said the very opposite thing, asking Kenyans to buy.

Many ODM activists have tried to explain away this strange behavior but the truth is that no explanation will wash. More so when there is so much “Asian presence” within ODM high circles at the moment. The clear sign is that some people are chasing business deals which naturally deeply annoys some ODM members who understand the expectations that the public are placing on this political party in most of the country and especially in six of the eight provinces in the country.

Impeccable sources also tell me now that the situation in relation to foreign powers has turned out to be very fluid indeed. While the Americans are smiling and still promising Raila sweet nothings, the truth is that they are no longer with the ODM leader and there is even talk now of Colin Bruce, the disgraced World Bank country leader returning to Nairobi.

By the way in his remarks Ruto also warned against arrests over the post election skirmishes demanding justice for all rather than the selective justice we have always seen in Kenya. He wondered why those who threw stones should be arrested when those who shot and killed Kenyans are going Scot free.

The whole political situation at the moment is way too fluid and things should become clearer I the coming week. As always I will keep you posted guys, but it is not looking good at all…

  1. What we have in place is a president who will have to be pushed through each and every stage of democratization.

Even a new constitution will have to be shoved down the throats of PNU.

TUKO TAYARI; WE WILL NOT GET TIRED.

  2. Raila needs to come out and tell us what is going on. how hard is it to form a cabinet if the rules are clearly stipulated> i think there are a lot of back door dealings going on and if Raila does not watch out this is going to sink him. He has become too "kalonzolike". Why hasn't he been sworn in yet anyway?

  3. Ruto's threat is better understood in light of effects of political frustration. That ODM goofed obtusely on Safaricom cannot be gainsaid. Fidelity to principle can be replaced with rhetorics or cheap justifications. Moral ground is akin to virginity and once you lose it is gone.

Frustrations because Ruto himself would not wish to have Kivuitu presdie over another fiasco and subsequent massacre. Meanwhile PNU is slowly achieving the objective to stretch patientce too thin till you eventully accept tokensim - mkia. That is the motto even with a ministry to peepetuate decoys of growth to blind Kenyans as rape continues till 2030. The RIDE IS ROUGH folks and you better fasten your politcial seat belts.

  4. my sources in the PNU camp say the foriegn entities have threatened hense kibaki calling an urgent meeting!! they have been informed they must accept 50/50 equal and a lean government or no money- this is from a top guy in PNU - this said i think ODM strategy is still working they are hitting the right points and people relate to them because this was actually in their campaign manifest- which i went back to check!!

kibaki has been taken hostage i'm told because uhuru and karua both want the deputy post and both are not backing down- this is one of the urgent issues to be discussed and i'm not sure how kibaki will get out of it!!maybe he should not give either the position like my source indicated -that if he can settle that issue them things will flow!!

kumekucha please post this- i got it from a very reliable top PNU member of parliament -thank you

  5. HEY KENYANS I HEAR ON GROUND THAT THE BIG ISSUE IS PNU AND THE DEPUTY POSITION^^^IMAGINE KARUA AND UHURU ARE BOTH AT IT AND NONE HAS STEPPED DOWN FOR THE OTHER.

AS FOR A CLEAN CABINET??? THEM MOST OF THE SAME PNU WHO ARE ASKING FOR THAT WILL NOT BE IN PARLIAMENT ACCORDING TO THE SCANDALS RAP SHEET!!

  6. Well i guess everyone is frustrated - but Ruto and his buddy mps have no quarrel with each other according to the list of mp slots to be shared- they have all come to an agreement on the way forward! The frustration of all odm members i'm told is the safaricom and Raila's blander not many are happy and i but are still behind him 100% though i'm told by a source they all agreed no more roadside announcements as they called it!!

in the case of PNU trouble is brewing between KNU AND NARC-K IN FACT UHURU'S CHAIRMANSHIP IS ON LINE I'M TOLD IF HE DOES NOT DELIVER FOR KANU THE DEPUTY POSITION- MARTHA KARUA ON THE OTHER HAND HAS SOLD HER SOUL FOR THE SAME POSITION DOING ALL KIBAKI'S DIRTY WORK EVEN MAKING SURE SHE RIGGED HIM IN AND ORGANIZED THE SWEARING IN !!SO WHO DO YOU SEE KIBAKI CHOOSING???FOOT SOLDIER OR THE KUNU'S CHOSEN CHAIRMAN??

  7. Raila has to listen to his Members he has no choice- this is a joint marriage he did not get where he is alone!! his supporters voted and this is the only chance he has to deliver or you watch the next elections!!

as for kibaki he has a to please on of this two people !!martha or uhuru and it is turning out to be more difficult then he thought!!an informant told us that there was a big shouting much at the meeting he chaired between karua and uhuru!ati karua thought she could shout down or should i say put down uhuru and tell him of his luck of experience and knowledge- wacha the war lord come out fighting dirty- he even mentioned her tinted past with that priest- kibaki had to close the meeting and they all left on that sour note!!! if i was kibaki i swear i would not pick both of them - i would go for a more stable un heard of individual!!!

kumekucha please post my thread- i guess I'm still tickled visualizing uhuru attacking karua on her Wamagondu priest:) i wonder what his exact words were:)

  8. there are two very slippery sides to this coin

    a) leadership expediency where RAO needs to be in the door to have any effective bargaining capacity, and therein lies PNU deceit of forestalling that whole process for as long as possible, days, weeks, months, years, elections, do whatever it takes. in that light RAO is totally vulnerable

    b) political expediency, i.e mood on the ground, forget the coalition deal, roll up sleeves work within current consititution or whatever and move on and hopefully not stoke renewed and utterly vicious (more than ever witnessed) violence with no return until objectives are all achieved.

i say go for option b

  9. Kenyans are actually tired - if it means another elections for us to get a working government then so be it!! the displaced need to be taken care off- the rainy seasons are here and this two numskulls kibaki and raila say they need time while sleeping in their mansions?? nope we will not give them time- they need to name a 50/50 equal sharing cabinet or get out and let someone else do the job!!
i can't stand people who don't care about ordinary Kenyans - time out for them both!!

  10. I have been amazed at how some of the neocons from both the old and new political class are taking a high moral ground and virtually are "willing" to broker peace.

Always remember politicians will always be politicians as long as the ground remains fertile to inflict injuries on their opponents. They do come in all shades namely; political elites/brokers, religio-political leaders, social/political activists, business lobbyists/cartels, self serving 'worker's representatives' etc.

Believe me all these hoi poloi is about a do for nothing. The unfortunate part is, we are continuing to be the spring board upon which they play their political gymnastics. Don't get me wrong here, have you asked yourself who will cast the votes Ruto is looking forward to in a fresh election or do you know who was intended to go to the streets to protest against the Safaricom IPO launch? I can go on and on and on......

Do not be deceived, even if it was the ODM that was leading in the current "PNU-like game" they would not have played it any different.Oops that is the truth! Are we whining because we feel helpless?

Guys wake up because we are the only ones that can end these game of shifting political goal posts.

  11. With the yoke of election theft around their necks, and with their leader proposing ridiculous ministries, the PNU noisemakers are just getting more and more fatigued. The idea of fresh elections, which has also been floated by Gitobu Imanyara) would obviously not appeal to them though. And considering that Kibaki would be constitutionally barred from vying again, I wonder who PNU would front. Martha Karua maybe?

  12. The coalition need to work so that kenyans can get back to their normal life. The problem with the signed deal is that it silent on what happens if the coalition does not work or die if one patner withdraw. There is no clause talking of fresh elections, I dont know what section of the constitution those suggesting the fresh election are refering to.

  13. This thing about appointing a new cabinet on a 50/50 with potfolio balance is very simple. Here is how: let the two leaders choose the ministries (not ministers) in turn, one after the other until all the ministries are over. In this simple selection algorithm, each of the leaders will end up with the ministries they want and they can appoint whoever they want. If one leader is so desparate for a ministry held by the other, it is traded on willing buyer willing seller basis. Strangely, I remember using this many times in my primary school days many times we played football. We would go out and choose two people (usually good footballers/organisers) then ask them to pick one member to their teams each at a time. At the end of the selection, everyone felt it was fair. That is a lower primary solution to this problem of joint cabinet appointement which our more educated politicians don't seem to know. Anyone agree it is a fair method?

  14. I saw a nice book in one of the supermarkets y'day: "Put your money where your morals are"....Anon 4:30 when everyone was yapping about safcom shares i didn't hear anyone mention the IDPs, was it not kibs who bought 100,000 shares to them and other hardworking noisemakers in this blog it doesn't matter so long as i can invest in shares wale wenye wako displaced wajipange afterall i am safe in my home.
Atwoli said it, Ruto said it, Orengo supported him....Cabinet portfolio and size ikilete noma (whatever that is) Wajipange turudu uchaguzi.....I can't put it better than Ruto. What will it take for Kenyans to move out of this mentality of I, Me and Myself???
Chris just to clarify, whether Raila said yes or no iam not opening any CDS account to buy safaricom shares.

  15. What I do not understand up to this point is why everyone seem to be blaming both Raila and Kibaki for the cabinet fiasco. It is an open secret that the main stumbling block thus far is Kibaki and even some PNU folk have admitted. So, Why does everyone including the press have to throw Raila's name in there?

    ReplyDelete
  16. could someone kindly explain how kibaki chairing a meeting with members of PNU can be called a cabinet meeting.

after signing into law the peace accord formalising the coalition and a 50/50 sharing of cabinet/govt, then that "committee" that previously run affairs of the cabinet should legally be void until a new cabinet is formed in line with the spirit of the peace accord.

DOnt we have any brave constitutional lawyers out there that can sue these guys ?

  17. Raila is nobody's fool he knows exactly what he is doing , he uses his leutenants to pass messeges that may not look good coming from him because the whole world is looking at Kibaki and Raila , Ruto was passing a message from Raila to PNU that a general election is also an option incase they have been consumed by greed that they cant let go a single ministy.
