How This Blog Will Soon Be Illegal In Kenya

archive

If this government and the ever smiling Ag Amos Wako have their way Kenya will soon have a ridiculous law on its’ books that will make opposition politics virtually impossible to practice in these shores.

The proposed law seeks to criminalize incitement and hate speeches. At a casual glance, this may appear to be just what the doctor ordered because the country is currently reeling under increased incidences of sop called ethnic/land skirmishes most of which have been linked to politics and inflammatory remarks made by politicians.

But the truth is that there are so many sensitive issues that can be termed inflammatory today that the law would in effect just shut down all manner of opposition politics.

For instance, there is the issue of the increasing divide between the rich and the poor in the country. The truth is that this situation has been brought about and perpetuated mainly by corruption in high places including land grabbing. So if the law is passed, any discussion of this matter can easily earn somebody 7 years in jail.

And there are many other examples, including the thorny issue of tribalism which if discussions in this blog are anything to go by is just the sort of subject that makes most Kenyan’s blood “boil” rather quickly.

There is a real danger that such a ridiculous law could just be passed. Looking at the numbers on the side of the government of national unity and the numerous defections expected as politicians realign themselves with the most popular political vehicles on the ground, this law could sail through just like the other ridiculous media bill is destined to sail through the August house.

One wonders how these guys have the audacity to squeeze in such bills in a very busy schedule that has a lot more pressing issues on its’ plate, like the constitutional review for instance.

Menstruation Odor Causes Marriage To Elude Woman

  1. It is a pipe-dream. You cannot regulate such a thing. They are lying to themselves. Kumekucha should be there for all to read all. From mensturation odours to Raila being elected the new president of kenya and Mwai Kibaki being sick. We have all read it here.

  2. Who do the Nation sex maniacs want to fool?
The Nation on May 10, 2007carried an editorial calling on the resignation of World Bank President, Mr Paul Wolfowitz, over a scandal involving the promotions and pay hikes to his girlfriend.

The newspaper has been giving the scandal a lot of prominence since it broke out. By coincidence, the scandal that threatens to bring the career of the World Bank chief broke out when a more damaging sex scandal was exposed in Nation Media Group by disgruntled journalists. Mr Wolfowitz’s scandal is so mild compared to the sex-for-hire-and-promotion scandal that sucks almost all the top executives in Nation Media Group. Some of the editors behind today’s editorial – Mr Wangethi Mwangi and Mr Joseph Odindo – have been sharing female staff unknowingly and promoting only those who performed better in bed. Worse still, Mr Mwangi has twice been taken to court by female employees for sexual harassment and other fellow managers have been accused of raping female staff in their office carpets. Yet, Nation editors want the whole world to believe Mr Wolfowitz had committed an unforgivable sin and should go.

Compared to Nation sex scandals, Mr Wolfowitz’s scandal is child’s play. How comes Nation publications have ignored the juicy sex scandals in their midst and gone ahead to report what is happening miles away from Nation Centre? Who do the Nation editors want to fool? Isn’t the sex scandal in Nation juicier and NMG is assured of drastic rise in sales of newspapers if it highlights it?

As much as Mr Wolfowitz should go, all the sex predators holed up in Nation Media Centre should be banished from holding any office anywhere in the world. Some of them should be cooling off their sex lust behind bars in Kamiti Maximum prison. If Nation Media Group was the World Bank or the company was in Britain or the US, none of its managers would hold any office. The media house has badly been tainted by sex scandals involving the top executives and it lacks the moral authority to criticise others.

The scandal facing Mr Wolfowitz is child’s play compared to the sex-for-hire-and-promotion scandals that have rock the Nation Media Group for many years. Yet, the sex maniacs of Nation turn a blind eye to their own sleaze and highlight scandals involving other personalities. Who can take the Nation Media Group seriously if it has allowed male bosses who rape, sexually harass and demand sex from female employees to continue occupying their positions and have the guts to criticise others for scandals which so minor compared to their own? Why can’t Nation chiefs clean up their stinking mess first before they see the dirt in other people’s eyes?

In a candid interview with a local new magazine last month, former long-serving Chief Executive Officer of the Nation Media Group, Mr Wilfred Kiboro, revealed how the search for his successor was conducted and the factors that knocked out most of the prospective candidates.

This is what he is quoted saying: “The shareholders wants to hand over the company to someone of trust, beyond professional competence. They look at issues of integrity. Part of the problem has been finding someone with a record and a moral high ground who would preside over an enterprise that criticizes others.”

If that is the case, none of the top executives in Nation Media Group should be in office. None of them has any moral authority to hurl stones and mud at other people. The criteria of selecting a CEO for the giant media house and qualities that were required had remained a secret until Mr Kibro let the cat out of the bag in the interview. So now we know the measuring yardstick.

Going by the yardstick, none of the top executives in Nation have the moral qualification to hold their current posts. Let’s now sample just a few of the executives . . .

Mr Kiboro’s de facto deputy, Mr Dennis Aluanga, and the mean-looking Editorial Director, Mr Wangethi Mwangi, were the only managers within the company who showed interest in the coveted post of the Chief Executive Officer last year. In fact, a desperate Mr Mwangi enrolled for a management course at the Strathmore University hoping he would boost his chances of getting the job. But the man’s dreams of landing the job was soiled by several factors, the main two being his unpopularity with his juniors and being so weak in the knees that he floors any two-legged creature that has a hole between the legs!

Mr Dennis Aluanga: At 41, the man is still a bachelor for he fears responsibilities of raising a family. He has had several office affairs with secretaries and cleaners have caught him red-handed on several occasions having sex with different women on his carpet. Rahab, the secretary of Atebe of Finance Dept, was forced to break her marriage because of this sex-lust bachelor. Another employee of Finance Dept had to quit her job after being raped by Mr Aluanga in the office. The lady is still tramatised to date.

Mr Wangethi Mwangi: This man suffers from a severe problem of keeping his zip tightly shut. If carpets and walls of Nation Centre could talk, no other man in Nation could beat this man from the title race of laying junior staff on the carpet and for the highest number of women laid in this giant company. He has had a string of affairs in the office dating back to his days as the Chief Sub-Editor of the Daily Nation. Not that this man is handsome or he uses juju. The guy resembles a stature. The man uses threats and promises of promoting women in a bid to lure them into the bedroom. The lucky ones got promotions but the majority of his victims live in tears and self-guilt after being used and dumped. Despite being taken to court twice on charges of sexual harassment, the Aga Khan has found it fit to retain him for so long. No wonder Nation Centre has acquired the dubious title of a brothel. This man has greatly contributed to that title. Woe unto you if you have a wife who works in Nation Centre and this man casts his eyes on her! With recent revelations that many fathers could unknowingly be raising children sired by other men, there is serious need for husbands whose wives have worked or still work in Nation to take an early option for a DNA to determine the paternity of their kids. He is responsible for breaking up countless homes. His former secretary, Irene Karanja, and housekeeper Linda Gacheru are living examples. Irene’s husband committed suicide in an Eldoret after he failed in stopping the affair between Mr Mwangi and his wife. This sex beast was responsible for publishing the editorial calling on the resignation of the WB chief!

Mr Cyrille Nabutola, the Group Marketing Director: This man has over the years been trying to wrestle the title from Mr Mwangi in vain. Dozens of sales girls in the Advertising Department have seen his manhood and at least 10 of them are proud mothers of his kids. Just like Mr Aluanga and Mr Mwangi, Nation carpets hold so many secrets of this man. He has an unmatched lust for young girls who are old enough to pass for his daughters. He has been instrumental in the rapid rise of Neema Wamai after turning Nation carpets into a mattress and giving birth to his son.

Ms Helen Mbugua, the Group Human Resources Director: She has occupied that office for a very short time. No sooner than she landed in Nation than she quickly adopted the culture she found with her peer executives. Her love affair with KBC Managing Director, David Waweru, when he was a General Manager in Nation is no secret to her juniors. She has been photographed having sex with Mr Waweru in the sitting room of her house in Kilimani. Until the secret love affair was exposed by disgruntled journalists in March, Ms Mbugua used to sneak the man to her matrimonial home when her husband was out of the country. After being exposed, she took cover for a while but there are reports the two lovebirds have been meeting in different hotels of late. This woman also has a lust for young men and several have already fallen into her trap in Nation Centre.

Mr Joseph Odindo, the Group Managing Editor: He is best known by print journalists on 3rd Floor for falling asleep and snoring most of the afternoons after a heavy lunch. He was given a plum post by his friend, Mr Mwangi, but the office lacks roles. This man is idle most of the time and he sleeps most of the afternoons to kill boredom. Journalists who have work stations close to his office often complain how they get distracted by their snoring boss. As Mr Odindo snores, poorly-paid journalists are busy wearing their fingers to generate the hefty salaries for their sex-lust and idle bosses. He has helped several female journalists defect to Nation from their poorly-paying jobs in other media houses after testing their sex-drive. Just like Mr Mwangi, the bully Mr Odindo is so much loathed by the journalists and those who have crossed his path (unknowingly) have lived to tell a harrowing experience. Journalists tremble when summoned to his office. This sex beast was also responsible for publishing the editorial calling on the resignation of the WB chief!

Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo were in March accused by disgruntled journalists of sharing women and promoting those who had performed better in the bedroom. A classic example cited was that of Ms Adhiambo Odera, who was employed from a correspondent to a full editor of Sunday Nation’s Buzz magazine pull out through the influence of the two editors. Her colleagues say she got the job after a sex expedition with Mr Mwangi in Malindi during the time the deadly tsunami waves hit the Indian Ocean. The two editors opened the way for other editors whom Ms Odera extended sexual pleasures to cover up her inefficiency. Another better qualified and competent female editor was shuttled aside by Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo to pave way for their shared girlfriend. Ms Odera has been threatening to unleash a video clip of her in bed with Mr Mwangi, Mr Odindo and all the other editors she has ever slept with if the management contemplates of axing her due to the bad publicity the dossier released by the journalists caused the individuals and the company. The management can’t take the risk and Ms Odera remains the Buzz Editor despite admission by the top management that she was employed through the backdoor and her academic credentials are wanting. Hoping the dust would settle, Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo advised her to take a long break and in her absence, a correspondent who is better qualified has been running the show.

When the Board of NMG failed to get a suitable candidate for Mr Kiboro’s replacement within Nation, they went out on a hunting mission. They identified potential candidates who could match Mr Kiboro. But none of them accepted the post. They could not take the risk of soiling their hands since they knew the rot that Mr Kiboro had left behind. Although Mr Kiboro was so successful in the growth of the company, he had a major weakness of steaming immorality amongst the highest ranks. Many corporate chiefs worth their name and integrity are well aware of the high-level immorality that was perpetuated right under Mr Kiboro’s watch. Those who were approached for the job declined the offer, no matter how attractive it was. Others like, Mr Evans Kidero, gave certain conditions like the removal of the sex maniacs. His demands were turned down and he too declined the job.

Mr Linus Wang’ombe Gitahi: After a futile search, the Board settled on anything they could land on. Mr Gitahi was a beneficiary of the hurried process and the Board did not give itself reasonable time to evaluate and assess the background of this man. His six months in Nation have been marked by a string of serious blunders. And he too has his own skeletons. While the disgruntled journalists were in March unleashing the dossier on the Nation sex maniacs, former colleagues of Mr Gitahi at GlaxoSmithKline gave the drama a new direction. They posted on the internet damming dossier on Mr Gitahi that seemed to explain why he was reluctant to act on the Bulls of Nation. They claimed that Mr Gitahi was a gay right from his days at the University of Nairobi and that he regularly picked up prostitutes at the infamous Koinange Street.

The worst was yet to come. It also emerged that Mr Gitahi was at the centre of a messy divorce case at the High Court’s Family Division involving one Kenndy Kairu and his wife Pamela Nduku Kairu. Mr Kairu has file a divorce on the grounds that Mr Gitahi had been having an affair with his wife when the two worked in the pharmaceutical company. To prove his case, he has attached a photo in his affidavit of Mr Gitahi and Mrs Kairu in bed doing the obvious. That is Mr Gitahi’s dark side the Board overlooked when they gave him the job. His dark history explains why he did not have the moral courage to clean up the lot in Nation. Birds of the same feather flock together.

Going back to Mr Kiboro’s quote, which of the Nation managers has the moral authority to criticise other people? The Editorial Department is the engine of any media house and the sleaze leaking from Nation Centre puts Mr Gitahi and his bedmates in immorality in a precarious situation. They can no longer be viewed as the mirror of the society and they lack moral authority to criticise other people. Nation’s reputation has gone to the dogs as the founders of the company watches from the sidelines. Who will save the Nation?

The empire which His Highness the Aga Khan built with holy funds over a long period is under serious threat of crumbling due to Mr Gitahi’s inept management.

Nation Media Group has been in the news since November – for all the wrong reasons. The rain started beating from November last year when the Board of Directors suddenly announced the unexpected retirement of Mr Kiboro. The charismatic Mr Kiboro was well respected by the staff, the corporate world and by regional governments. But his departure has rocked the boat and it’s sinking faster than anyone would have expected.

The change of guard at Nation Centre was envisaged to inject new blood to herald the media powerhouse into new levels of the corporate world. But Mr Kiboro’s replacement, has failed the test. Mr Gitahi inherited a healthy and vibrant company from Mr Kiboro. Instead of taking the relay stick from his predecessor and making a dash towards finishing line, Gitahi, who has displayed a lot of immaturity in his management style, opted to return towards the starting line! His first six months at Nation Centre has been disastrous. He has been busy drilling a hole into the NMG boat by making a string of blunders. Since he landed on the job, he has never initiated anything meaningful and he has been riding on the wave started by his predecessor. And to make matters worse, he is busy dismantling the Aga Khan’s empire rather than move it forward. Going by the string of damaging events that have rocked the leading media house in East and Central African region since November, those who proposed Mr Gitahi for the post must be cursing. The NMG boat had been sailing on calm waters before the change of guard but it has ever since been sailing on extremely turbulent waters.

Those who have been watching the unfolding events at Nation Centre were shocked to receive news that another well-respected figure was calling it quits from Nation Media Group. This time round, it’s the chairman of the Board, Mr Hannington Awori, who announced his departure. His exit has sent shockwaves in media circles, coming so soon after the departure of Mr Kiboro. One would have expected Mr Awori to stay for a longer duration to ensure a smooth handover and ensure Mr Gitahi was firmly in the driving seat. Mr Gitahi has never settled and he is still groping in the darkness like a headless chicken.

Both Mr Kiboro and Awori were instrumental in the rapid expansion of the company in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. When the two joined the Nation, the company was a pale shadow of what it is today. It only published the Daily Nation and the Kiswahili publication, Taita Leo. Today, the company has grown into a multi-media with investment worth billions of shillings in the region.

With the exit of Mr Kiboro and now Mr Awori, the burden of overseeing (and expanding) the huge investment now lies on the amateurish Gitahi and a team of executives who are unpopular with the majority of staff. Mr Gitahi and the other executives who are helping him were among senior managers who were recently implicated in a damaging sex-for-hire and promotion scandal by disgruntled journalists working in the print section. The dossier was posted in the internet and published by the alternative press. The journalists have been threatening to unleash more dossier and photos of the sex maniacs in due course.

With the exit of Mr Kiboro, it was expected that Mr Awori would remain behind for some time to complete a smooth take over by the new leadership. Those familiar with the goings on in Nation Centre say nobody expected Mr Awori would leave before Mr Gitahi fully mastered the giant company. With the exit of both Mr Awori and Mr Kiboro, the giant company is standing on the rocks. Their departure can be equated to a student stepping in to run a school after the resignation of both the principal and his deputy. Have the two left the company in safe hands? The two have spent sleepless nights to bring the company to the level it is today. But all that is on the verge of going to waste thanks to Mr Gitahi and the bunch of his sex maniacs colleagues.

Mr Awori’s associates said he started expressing his wish to quit when he was overruled by the group of directors who settled on the inexperienced Gitahi (to please the political godfathers) at the expense professionalism. Matters became worse when Mr Gitahi arrived at Nation Centre and disgruntled journalists started writing anonymous letters demanding the resignation of Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo, blaming them for the woes facing the Editorial Department and the journalism profession. So, who is next after Mr Awori?

In a show of contempt for the journalists, Mr Gitahi appointed the two disgraced editors to chair a panel to identify journalists to be retrenched in a programme he initiated to cut down wages. Although the anonymous letters had told Mr Gitahi that the huge salary bill in the Editorial was caused by huge salaries given to so many busy-bodies (staff who had been promoted in questionable circumstances and given posts that duplicated roles). Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo were cited as examples. Their offices have similar roles and that is why they are so idle. To kill boredom, the two specialise in going under the skirt.

In fact, the two editors should have been shown the door long before the panel to carry out the retrenchment was formed. Rather than pick on the non-performers who earned huge salaries for doing nothing, Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo picked on 13 journalists they disliked and had closed paths. One curious casualty was Claire Gatheru who had been a victim of Mr Mwangi’s romance on the carpet. And what shocked the entire company was the fact that except for one, the other 12 victims of the retrenchment were all from Central Province. The move left the newsroom bare and there were no reporters to do the job. It was strange when the Human Resources Department advertised jobs for reporters even before the ink which sacked the 13 journalists had dried. Mr Odindo, the Number One tribalist in Nation, seized on the opportunity and brought in his own tribesmen to replace the vacuum created by the Central Kenya group. He also shuffled other correspondents from one station to another. All this happens because the head of the Editorial Dept has remained aloof.

Mr Gitahi’s retrenchment project backfired since it added more fuel into the hostility that has existed between the journalists and their bosses. The only option left for the journalists was to use the only weapon at their disposal. They formed a team that went round researching and compiling damming dossier on managers involved in sex affairs in the office and posted it in the internet and to the alternative press. The staff branded Nation Centre a brothel and that is the term many Kenyans refer to it today. The aftermath was devastating and many souls and families were left wounded. Woe onto you if your wife works at Nation Centre.

The damaging sex dossier is what pricked Mr Awori’s conscience into announcing his sudden departure. His associates say he wanted to resign before but was persuaded to stay on a little bit longer to allow Mr Gitahi to settle down. But he refused to extend it beyond April. He argued he did not wish to soil his reputation by associating with managers who can hardly keep their zips shut.

Mr Gitahi’s leadership has been dogged by a string of very embarrassing blunders. Here are the samples:

As soon as Mr Kiboro handed over the mantle to Mr Gitahi, the Museveni regime switched off NTV Uganda on flimsy grounds. The station has been off air until last week when the Ugandan authorities allowed it to run. Mr Gitahi and Mr Mwangi seemed impressed by the closure because it coincided with the release of the sex dossier and it gave them time to cool off from the heat and shame when they made countless trips to Kampala. Had Mr Kiboro been the CEO, the Museveni regime would never have switched off the station. Ugandan authorities wanted to humiliate Mr Gitahi whom they had a lot of contempt.
Since the arrival of Mr Gitahi, Nation has been hit by a mass exodus of the best brains from both the print and the electronic. In their place, Nation has employed quacks and no wonder the newspapers are today full of spelling mistakes and serious grammatical errors. The Sunday Nation has gone back to the same hole it was before after the sudden departure of the able news editor Catherine Gicheru. She was poached by a newspaper owned by Kiss FM to be unveiled soon. Many more journalists have letters of appointment in their pockets and they are waiting for the right time to jump ship.
Mr Gitahi squandered a good opportunity to clean up the rot in Nation by listening to the advice of the managers who were the source of the mess. Instead of retrenching the parasites and lay-abouts, he went for the good rot and left intact the networks of evil and immorality. The reaction of the disgruntled journalists was understandable. Nation has never faced a reputation and morality crisis than it has happened since January this year. Had Mr Gitahi acted, he would have saved the company from the embarrassment facing it today.
During Mr Kiboro’s tenure, the Editorial Dept enjoyed more independence from external forces. In the short time Mr Gitahi has been at the helm of NMG, he sold the independence of the Dept and the journalism profession to his political godfathers. External forces determine what is published in the newspapers today.

Daily Nation – the flagship of Nation Media Group – boasted in its editorial on May 3 that Kenya had made great strides on press freedom today than it was 15 years ago. The editorial was timed to coincide with the World Press Freedom Day.

The editorial grudgingly highlighted a few incidents where the Executive has infringed on the rights of journalists. It cited the jailing of Mburu Muchoki, the Editor of a tabloid newspaper – The Independent – detention and interrogating of journalists and media directors and last year’s raid on the offices of the Standard Group by a police squad. The editorial further stated that the incidents revealed a “systematic effort to harass and intimidate into silence free and independent voices.”

And the editorial concluded: “Any attempt to cow the Press will not just translate to silencing some newspapers and broadcast outlets, but will be an assault on democracy itself.” Taken at face value, the editorial is brilliant and telling things as they should be! But let’s get to basic and the actual reality. Those who are conversant with the goings on in Nation Centre will confess to you that the editorial was a good mastery of fiction.

What the editorial failed to reveal was that a reporter had been assigned to write a story on the jailing of Mr Muchoki and the story was to be published on page three, which the newspaper reserves for news features with a human interest angle. The story was edited and placed on the page only to be plucked out on the instructions of Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo. A copy of the story is available. Why was the Nation then pretending to shed crocodile tears for Mr Muchoki? Nation has fooled Kenyans and the world for long and time to expose the conmen editors has come. Nation Media Group chiefs preach water and drink wine.

During the Moi era, Nation was the voice of the voiceless. It stood for justice. Its readership skyrocketed because the people could identify with it and its ideals. Sadly, that is not the case today. The company has abdicated that role and the Standard has cleverly cashed in on it and it has been projecting itself as the voice of the people. Mr Gitahi is in Nation on a mission to please the ruling political class to ensure they retain power at any cost. Professionalism can take a back seat.

The change of top leadership in Nation Media Group in November was meant to inject new blood to herald the media powerhouse in the new level of the corporate world. The founders of the company and Mr Gitahi’s predecessors (especially Wilfred Kiboro) spent sleepless nights to uplift the company to the position that it currently dominates.

However, the gains that Mr Kiboro fought so hard to achieve are standing in the threshold of being wasted by our youthful and immature CEO and his sex scandal-stinking advisors. When Mr Kiboro was in charge, the Nation was a respected company and it was a voice to reckon with. It was a voice of the voiceless, champion for justice and it stood firm against abuse of power and human rights by the Government and its agents. It was only Nation which had the courage, the voice and moral authority to keep the Government on its toes and check against its excesses.

But with the arrival of Mr Gitahi, things took a different turn – for the worst. The events of the week starting April 16 clearly demonstrate that something is terribly wrong somewhere in the leadership of our company. While the Standard Group and its directors and editors were under siege from police agents for reviving the Arturs saga, the silence from Nation Centre has been puzzling. Daily Nation dedicated a page four strip on April 17 to report the arrest and detention of Standard chiefs. Nation bosses could not find space or ink to write the story.

The Arturs saga has largely been ignored by the Nation to ensure the Kibaki Administration remains unsoiled as the General Election drawns nearer. The same with corruption. Isn’t it ironical that Arturs have been turning to the Standard Group – the very same company they plotted a brutal raid against last year – to expose some of their dark secrets of their stay in Kenya instead of Daily Nation? Nobody trusts NMG publications anymore. We in the newsroom know that Nation chiefs are so much in love with the Kibaki Administration and they kill and stop publication of stories that would embarrass the system or have the potential to ruin its reputation. Just like the Citizen and KBC, our publications have become the third mouthpiece of the Kibaki Administration. Nation gives favourable media coverage to the system. Nation has joined the league of the Government’s media of choice and its reaping the benefits in increased advertisements and personal favours to our bosses from the State,

Nation exposes corruption scandals selectively. Only those in the bad books of the Nation chiefs find themselves exposed. The Standard has fearless taken over the role of the society’s watchdog from the Nation. Nation is today a wing of the Kibaki regime and the Kenya Times of the Moi days. Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo went into a celebration mood when the Standard directors were detained and they instructed the news desk and the chief sub to downplay the story. When the Kiruki Commission winded up, Kibaki’s men selectively leaked the report only to Daily Nation for the sole purpose of misinforming the public. The move backfired when MPs in Parliament exposed the Nation antiques.

Although the editorial accused the State of attempting to muzzle the Press, the same thing happens inside Nation Centre. Nation preaches democracy but that is a foreign concept inside Nation Centre. One has to tow the sycophantic line or get fired.

In a bid to stem the damage caused by the sex dossier, Nation chiefs spent millions and went into great lengths to cover the leakage of the dark secrets Nation Centre has concealed for years. If there is something Nation chiefs fear most, its bad publicity and the truth being told about them. The sex sleaze dossier was the worst crisis Nation chiefs had ever handled. Having been researched and compiled by the journalists who know Nation inside out, the dossier became so embarrassing to the bosses. It was a 100 percent accurate. Nation chiefs used all sorts of dirty tricks in their books to cover the lid. But it was too late.

It is ironical that a company that preaches freedom of expression and press should attempt to gag its own employees from exposing the rot in their midst. In the same spirit of telling the truth, Nation chiefs should also have highlighted the stories of the sleaze in Nation Centre in their media outlets. Nation chiefs went a step further and disconnected yahoo inside Nation Centre for two months in a bid to block the employees from accessing the sex dossier. Since then, all mails to employees are filtered. This is not only an attempt to muzzle the employees but infringing on their human rights. Why should Nation chiefs be so afraid if the sex dossier was false? The same Nation chief went to an extent of hiring IT experts to help them investigate the source of the sex dossier but they hit a dead end. They also hacked the internet blog where the dossier was posted and all other sites that transmitted the stuff. The efforts did not bear any fruits. The journalists re-assembled the blog and used a contact in the US to hoist it from there. The site is still on to date.

As the sex maniacs take a sigh of relief thinking they have sealed all the loopholes, the journalists have been threatening to release more sex dossier at an appropriate time.

As panic gripped Mr Gitahi and his fellow sex maniacs, they attempted to frame their former Crime Editor Stephen Muiruri, who resigned in February after he resisted attempts by the CEO and the Commissioner of Police, Maj Gen Hussein Ali, to play down the insecurity situation in the country.

In a letter he posted in the internet, Mr Muiruri explained how Nation chiefs dispatched a squad of about 15 officers from CID headquarters and Parklands police station to the offices of his tour company on March 14 under the pretext of investigating who were the authors of the sex dossier. The squad was led by Nation Security Manager, Mr Sam Koskei. The squad made a fool of themselves when they drafted a charge accusing Mr Muiruri of sending an email to Mr Gitahi at 9.07pm on February 27, not knowing Mr Muiruri was nowhere near his office from 4pm that day. In his letter, Mr Muiruri explained he had gone to take his son to hospital and he had medial records and witnesses to prove his case. He further said the office building where his company is based did not open beyond 8pm.

Thanks to the good connections and networks Mr Muiruri made in his illustrious career in Nation, he did not end behind bars or in courts as Mr Gitahi had worked it out with his new-found friend, Maj Gen Ali. When authorities higher than Maj Gen Ali learnt of his arrest, they quickly ordered for his immediate release. Nation chiefs had gone home on March 14 thinking Muiruri was going to spend the night in police cells and end up in court the following day. They got a rude shock when they woke up the following day and learnt Mr Muiruri had been released the previous day and he was not going to be taken to court! The case went into a cold freezer. It is ironical that Nation was so critical of the raid on the offices of the Standard Group and do exactly the same to their former employee in a bid to cripple his business.

In his letter, Mr Muiruri explained that Nation chiefs wanted to use him as a scapegoat to scare the journalists who were posting the sex dossier in the internet. The threats did not work since more damaging stuff is still being posted in the internet.

Recently, Nation chiefs have been fighting another crisis. This time, razor-sharp employees have been hacking computers that store highly-confidential information on meetings of their bosses. This has been going on for a long time without the knowledge of the bosses. In their possession, the journalists have documents on deliberations by the Board, the entire payroll of NMG and meetings held by Mrs Mbugua, Mr Mwangi and Mr Odindo on staff recruitment and administration issues. The documents have been in circulation in the newsroom and journalists are threatening to post them in the internet.

In a bid to placate disgruntled staff and deflate mounting pressure to resign, sex maniacs Helen, Mwangi and Odindo came up with attractive packages for correspondents and offered some employment. Deputy News Editor, Ms Njeri Rugene, who has been complaining that she reports to a Form Six graduate Eric Shimoli while she is a university graduate, was given an additional Sh68,000 as car allowance to cool her off. Ms Rugene is not in a class of her own. Reporters and correspondents who have university degrees and some Masters find themselves reporting to Form Four and Six graduates. Strange enough, the three sex maniacs found it fit to abolish vital key positions and retained the ones which duplicated roles. Nation chiefs have been trying to stem the leakage of confidential documents in vain. The documents keep trickling in into the newsroom.

Although NMG chiefs have been working so hard to dismantle KUJ and it had refused to enter into any CBA agreements with union officials, the sudden change of heart that saw the unionisable employees get a 20 percent pay rise did not come as a surprise to many. The change of heart – which has benefited reporters and correspondents – did not come like that. Mr Gitahi and Co. were awaken from the slumber by the damming sex dossier and they have been trying to please the journalists in a bid to save their careers and reputation. Their efforts have come too late. The journalists have promised to unleash Part Two of the sex dossier soon. Keep watching the internet.

  4. Woo, what a lengthy thesis with interesting subtitles. However, the theme remains what bloggers hate most 'being athletic around the waist' Well Chris I cannot help imagining what the accusation this time will be? Maybe that you are a Std mole trying to drag NMG's namein murk.

But you can't fault the writer/s of tis piece. They have a peg to hung their beef, world press day and freedom of the press and the hypocracy.

NMG has been a pillar of conscience and information for Kenyans of all walks. But as they say one easily gets blinded by fame and you guess right unless they address the issue.....Being number one is no big deal but staying there is. If the dossier is right (and nobody knows better) then most people have swalloed NMG propaganda line, hook and sinker as they cheaply brand Std a tabloid. I hope I am wrong but I fear I am right and what a crowd of imbeciles we have been turned to?

The NMG saga is all about politics and ethnicity simple. Scratch my back and I scratch yours, the wider good can go to hell on foot and come back riding on a mosquito. Behind all these scum is power play. Some guys have their eyes on the political trophy at whatever cost and the nostalgic past can take a walk. Bring it on, our eyes are ears are wider open to sample all and sundry.

  6. With all the scientific and social studies about men being genetically predisposed to spreading their genes (or semen) into any accepting vessel (or cat by another name) and of women prone to spreading their legs wide open for the nestling of the dominant seed (or semen), I’m at loss as to why the Nation Brothel makes any news at all. The Aga Khan seems to be understanding the frailty of men (and women for that matter) anyway….right?
Whereas I subscribe to the notion that sexual morality is defined only within the cultural boundaries of a said people, in the Kenyan context, it’s hard to imagine that sex on the office carpet or the mezzanine floor is taboo. Lest we forget that our sexual heroes are the likes of the revered Okuku Danger (ask Taabu). I’m yet to meet a Kenyan man who’d decline a lumpish fat Italian tourist nor a woman who distastes bejeweled Artur Margayan (ask W. Mwai) or any degenerate coffee/sugarcane/miraa/maize farmer in Kitale, Meru etc…..well, after a cash payout boom.
The point is that Kenyans are an extremely sexually explicit people. HIV has not deterred us from Koinange Street neither will it discourage us from that coveted editor in chief position. We are so ready to label and point accusing fingers to bosses/managers who lay secretaries and junior staff as we forget our own escapades with household maids in our teens (at least admit to that).
As for the men who negatively view and judge the “sex for job” women who’s loins they so much long to embellish, remember this: A bitch is a woman who sleeps with all men except you!!!

  7. I work in Nation and all what has been written is the absolute truth. It's true that Linus Gitahi and the other sex maniacs - Aluanga, Wangethi Mwangi, Joe Odindo - have been trying to entice disgruntled journalists and bribing them with free beer and parties in the false believe that they would stop exposing the sex scandals rocking the giant media house.

What I know for sure is that the authors (some of whom I know) will never relent in their crusade until all the bosses who have turned Nation Centre into a brothel are shown the door.

A majority of us at Nation Centre support the campaign but we fear sticking out our necks for fearing of losing our jobs. It's not a secret in Nation Centre which women Wangethi or Odindo have been sleeping around with.

My brothers and sisters, go ahead and expose all the sex maniacs in Nation. We can't pretend we are the conscience of the society while we are rotten to the core!

  8. It seems the ghosts in Nation Centre that have continued to haunt our bosses have never gone to sleep. I have been watching the raging saga with keen interest and I'll make some shocking revelations on the issue.

Sometimes in November last year, I went to see Odindo in his office but found he was with the infamous Adhiambo Odera. I took a seat in the waiting lobby, next to Odindo's secretary, Prisca Kimani. I had a long wait.

As I was flipping through the newspaper pages, my ears caught the attention of Prisca who was talking to somebody on the phone in low tones. The conversation was in Kikuyu and Prisca thought I did not understand the language since I was from a different tribe.

The secretary was complaining bitterly how Adhiambo had turned Odindo's office into a personal office; disregarding her (the secretary) and walking into the office without bothering to seek permission. She also complained how she sat on the visitor's chairs facing Odindo with her mini-skirt pulled upwards.

Prisca took a long time vomiting her frustrations to the person on the other side and she had a solution on how to teach the girl a lesson. She suggested that they should write a petition to Linus, who had just reported to Nation, and detail the sex scandals dogging the top executives. Prisca went on to narrate to the other person how Adhiambo had affairs with Wangethi and Odindo without the knowledge of the two men, how she was taken to Malindi by Wangethi, and how she screwed around with anyone to hide her professional weaknesses.

Prisca suggested that the other person should compile the dossier and send it to her for printing. They would then send the anonymous petition to Linus and ask him to take action.

The two discussed so many things on the phone and even by the time I entered Odindo's office, the conversation was till going on.

I was not shocked to see anonymous letters circulating in the newsroom before end of November. The letters contained most of the things that Prisca had been discussing with the person on the other end of the telephone. The same has been the basis of the dossiers which have been flying in the internet.

I suspect Prisca was bitter with Adhiambo because she too has been having an affair with Odindo. It's a case of sour grapes. Odindo is reaping the fruits of double crossing his own secretary right in her face. The lesson he should learn is that there are no secrets in office affairs.

I have enjoyed the Nation sex soap opera and the more we expose our cheating bosses, the more we will regain our lost glory. All sex pests washindwe!!

I have been so embarassed when everyone who knows that I work in Nation Centre thinks I'm part of the brothel. Who wants to be associated with the K Street type? Let's expose those of us who find it hard to zip up.

Linus lost a golden opportunity to kick out the sex predators and he, too, is reaping the fruits of his inept management.

  9. After having read the 'dossier', perhaps the editors even with their pants at the ankles are doing a pretty good job.

The article is long, repetitive and full of grammatical errors! Reading it through, you cannot help see through some lies - especially the attempt at reading the mind of Awori as to the reasons for his retirement.

I normally struggle to understand employees who have an issue with their employers. If these Nation staffers are too unhappy with the goings on at Nation Centre, then the logical thing is to break that association with the media house by quitting. Let those who can work with sex pests carry on.

Finally the authors of these stories want us to believe that women are sexually harrassed in to to the affairs. This is a lot of bull and this whole saga has been used by a few people to soil the names of women who probably had sex with the bosses because they liked them and not for purposes of favours!

  10. The comments by the so-called Mumbi wa Gikuyu shows how some minds are shallow. You can't burry your head in the sand and pretend all is well for the sake of it. Even if the authors have poor English, the fact of the matter remains that these things happen/happened in Nation and all of us who work here know it.
Stop trivialising an issue for the sake of it. Or are you defending evil coz you do the same or you a beneficiary of illicit sex? Where is the fun when Nation managers use their offices to force job applicants into bed or use sexual performance as the basis of awarding promotions and salary increments?

  11. Dear Chris,
Thanks for your nice job. I'm a regular reader of your blog and I have been following the Nation Media Group sex saga through your blog. It's nice that the authors of the dossier have re-surfaced for we want the whole truth about goings on inside Nation Centre. The guys can't pretend to be the mirror of the society yet they are worse stinking than the people they expose every day in their newspapers.
For your information, Daily Nation has today carried an advert on [age 24 on the annual general meeting of the shareholders of NMG. Kenyans and the world will be watching with keen interest to see if the shareholders will demand the truth about the sex scandals which have rocked the media company for the last couple of months.

We look upon the Kumekucha blog for the absolute truth on what goes on inside Nation Centre.

    Regards

  13. Dear Chris,

I wish to thank you for your blog keeping the Nation sex scandal alive.

I wish to inform you that the dossier above was not authored by the original committee in Nation which has been researching and compiling the real dossier on the sex filth at Nation Centre. However, we welcome the authors and the subsequent comments from your readers. This shows that a majority of the staff in Nation are right behind us and they want to join hands with us in cleansing it. All those who are interested in redeeming the image of our company are free to join the campaign.

We promise our bosses that the campaign has not yet begun. What we unleashed between November and March was child's play. The real stuff is yet to come. And it will roll out soon. Our strategy is our secret weapon. We don't care what any detractors think about our campaign . . . whether you discredit it or not, we'll still go ahead. We write for those who care about integrity and those who want to read. If you feel whatever we unleash is rubbish, nobody forces you to read. You can take a walk and read the stuff you like. Nobody is forcing you to read or agree with the content. We expose the rot for those who want to know not those whose norals match those of Nation bulls.

However, we wish to sincerely the millions of readers who have read our blog and seen the sense of our campaign. Those who are opposed to it are those who practice the same evils we are trying to fight. Sex should never be a consideration in employment or promotion in any work place. Whoever feels its right must be going to be with akia Linus Gitahi, Wangethi Mwangi, Joseph Odindo and the other sex maniacs that rule Nation Centre. So far, our blog has attracted more than 35 million hits from all parts of the world from March 1. If what we had exposed was nonsense, why would 35 million readers waste their time going through the blog? We have been informed by our friends that the dossier has also been downloaded and circulated via emails and stored in computers and flash-disks by readers who are eager to support our campaign.

We'll never disappoint our readers. The razor will soon be slicing further deep very soon. All sex maniacs in Nation, be forewarned. The hour of reckoning is coming.

Secretary of the Committee Against Immorality in NMG.
