Political vultures at the Coast have forced former star investigative
journalist Mohamed Ali to vie for the Nyali parliamentary seat on an
independent ticket. Can he win against a candidate imposed by Mombasa
governor Ali Hassan Joho on the people? The candidate is in fact Joho’s
blood brother.
The impact that independent candidates will have in the 2017 general
elections should not be underestimated. We will have approximately 4,000
candidates out there with no strings attached. Some of them in their
campiagns will provoke a backlash amongst the voters against the parties
that denied them a ticket. How will this impact presidential votes?
