Mutava Musyimi: The Next Vice President?

The truth is that the Kibaki administration never really recovered from the death of former Vice President Wamalwa Kijana. In retrospect the late Wamalwa was an amazingly effective stabilizing factor in the Kibaki government and had he lived there is no doubt that this government would have come out with a much better score card.

Naturally this has a lot to do with the late Wamalwa's personality, the man could actually talk to anybody. The very opposite of president Kibaki himself who is said to only find something to discuss with former Makerere alumni and other high ranking scholars from some of the world's top universities.

Now word reaching this blogger is that the President is very enthusiastic about Musyimi's entry into politics, which analysts believe was as a result of being urged on and prodded regularly by the president. In fact many analysts see Musyimi fitting into the shoes of the late Kijana Wamalwa and he could easily be the president's choice for Vice President.

In fact it is clear that the Rev Musyimi will be President Kibaki's secret weapon in this years' general elections.

Interestingly many people, including ODM-Kenya are still fast asleep because if they were awake they would now be directing most of their fire in the direction of Rev Musyimi.

And if I were the president I would get Rev Musyimi to launch his campaign in his own party and even vigorously campaign for the presidency himself and then step down to back president Kibaki only at the eleventh hour.

Fireworks Expected As PLO Lumumba Now Enters Kamukunji Race

PLO Lumumba, a well-known Nairobi lawyer and a key member of the Ghai commission that was meant to have given Kenyans a new constitution by now has announced that he will seek the people's mandate to represent Kamukunji constituency in parliament.

The man will not say which party ticket he will use and neither will he confirm or deny that he is interested in the presidency. In my book he would in fact be the ideal compromise candidate for the presidency.

And right from the word "go" Mr Lumumba has clearly shown the style of politics that he is going to pursue in Kamukunji. It is instructive that he announced his candidature while on a meet-the-people tour where he was seen indulging in various activities including cutting grass with a slasher.

Of course everybody has long forgotten that Lumumba was once a big supporter of the Moi regime (and probably still is) and often came out in strong defense of the regime that for 24 years took Kenya absolutely nowhere as the government policy was only the survival of Moi and looking for ways and means he and his clan would rule Kenya forever.

The Kamukunji parliamentary seat is now set to be the most hotly contested in Nairobi. Pastor Pius Muiru, who is also a presidential candidate has already expressed interest in the seat and so has Tony "Health Ministry contracts" Gacoka. Gacoka has long positioned himself to be the ODM nominee to run for the seat. Then there is the incumbent, as hard a fighter as they come, one Norman Nyagah. Phew!!
