The Albert Ojwang Case: Why the Truth Is Closer Than It Seems

The recent courtroom revelations by Police Constable James Mukhwana have sent shockwaves through Kenya. For many, his testimony regarding "orders from above" in the Albert Ojwang case feels like a breakthrough. But for those of us who have watched the system for decades at Kumekucha Chris, we know that the path to justice is rarely a straight line.

To truly understand what is happening in that courtroom, we have to look past the headlines and understand two very different sets of rules: the laws of the land and the laws of the spirit.

The Myth of the "Incompetent" Officer

There is a popular belief in Kenya that the police are simply "unthinking" or don't understand the law. This is a dangerous misconception. The police understand the law—practical law—often better than lawyers do. You cannot enforce what you do not know.

When you understand a system, you also know how to twist it. The reason some "cover-up" stories seem weak isn't necessarily because of lack of intelligence; it’s because the story must be crafted around what can physically be seen. In a corrupt system, experts can be found to back up these stories, but they only hold until someone decides to look beneath the surface.

The "Orders from Above" Trap

When Constable Mukhwana named a senior officer, many jumped for joy, believing justice was served. However, in a court of law, everything hangs on evidence. Plausibility is not proof. Without a paper trail or corroboration, naming names can actually be a tactic to make a cover-up look watertight while ensuring the trajectory of the case leads nowhere legally.

But here is where the "cleverness" of men fails.

The Law That Cannot Be Corrupted

While men can manipulate evidence and "orders from above," they cannot escape Spiritual Laws.

Look at the case of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and the late Sharon Otieno. For eight years, it seemed wealth and power would shield those involved. Yet, the verdict eventually came. The spiritual consequences of our actions are impossible to escape, regardless of how many deals are made in high offices.

Even the most powerful, like the late Nicholas Biwott, eventually faced the reality that time and spiritual laws cannot be corrupted. Power is fleeting; the truth is eternal.

A Message to Kenyans: Be Patient

If you are feeling discouraged about the Albert Ojwang case, my advice is simple: Relax and be patient.

Follow the proceedings with a neutral mind. We may not know exactly who is guilty today, but the same spiritual laws that applied to Sharon Otieno apply here. No amount of wealth can buy a way out of the ultimate accounting.
