Your ears pop due to changes in air pressure affecting the eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ear to the back of the throat:
1. Pressure Imbalance: When the air pressure outside the ear differs from the pressure inside, the eardrum becomes stretched.
2. Equalization: Swallowing or yawning opens the eustachian tubes, letting air flow in or out to equalize pressure.
This is common during altitude changes, like flying or driving in the mountains.
