William Samoei Ruto is a Kenyan politician who became the 5th President of Kenya in 2022. Born on December 21, 1966, in Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County, Ruto came from humble beginnings. He attended the University of Nairobi, where he studied botany and zoology, before embarking on his political career. Ruto’s rise in Kenyan politics began in the 1990s when he joined the Youth for Kanu '92 movement, which supported the then-President Daniel arap Moi. Over the years, Ruto held various government positions, including Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Finance. He played a key role in the formation of the Jubilee Party in 2016, eventually becoming the Deputy President under Uhuru Kenyatta from 2013 to 2022. Ruto’s political platform has largely been centered on advocating for the economic empowerment of ordinary Kenyans, especially the youth and marginalized communities, through his "hustler" movement.
