Ruto Just Had To Hire The Journalist That How So Dramatically Checkmated Him

There’s a lot happening in Kenya, and that's why, from time to time, we do a quick rundown of some key highlights before diving into our main topic, like today's controversial interview with the Deputy President. So, before that, here are a few things you might have missed:

The former managing director of Kenya Re was fined 15.2 million shillings for embezzling 7.2 million. He’s being fined nearly double the amount he stole, but not jailed—just fined.

On the same day, in a Kibera court, Akibira Libera was sentenced to 20 years in prison for stealing safari boots worth 2,500 shillings (about 25 dollars) and 400 shillings (about 4 dollars) from a board operator. Same country, same laws—only in Kenya.

Here's a crazy story: Betty Olaba is threatening Kumitsu Said after catching her mother in a lodge with her husband, David Monkey. Yes, you heard that right—her own mother.

And this last one might not seem like news to some people, but I think it’s worth mentioning: A 24-year-old woman, Joan Monene, a fourth-year student at Kenyatta University, claims she’s four weeks pregnant with the Deputy President’s baby. She says she’s tried to reach him, but he’s now unreachable. Some might say this is old news, especially given the Deputy President’s past confessions, but I just wanted to share it with you.
