Raila Scores Big Against Jubilee In US Trip

Folks, there’s drama—plenty of it. This time, it's Arab drama, Ben drama, and a whole mix. Interestingly, most Kenyans, including many in Western and Nyanza regions, seem unaware of what's unfolding. Truth be told, events are moving rapidly—events that will have far-reaching consequences for our nation in the coming days, weeks, and months.

I have so much to share that it's overwhelming, but let me break it down for you. Here’s a quick summary:

1. Raila Odinga is in the U.S.

That alone is a bombshell, and I’ll unpack why shortly.

2. County assemblies across Western Kenya and Nyanza are adopting the "People’s Assembly" concept at an unprecedented pace.

This move is monumental and will have significant implications.

3. The growing calls for secession are picking up speed.

It’s becoming a critical issue that can’t be ignored.

4. There are visible signs of internal divisions within the Jubilee Coalition.

In any high-stakes political contest, infighting among the losing side is inevitable. And here, the cracks are starting to show.

I’ll dive into each of these topics in detail across separate updates to ensure clarity and a proper understanding of the implications, predictions, and potential consequences. For now, let’s focus on Raila Odinga’s U.S. visit.

Raila Odinga in the U.S.

There’s been a lot of propaganda surrounding Raila’s trip. For instance, Jubilee’s media machine spread rumors that Raila was set to address the U.S. Congress—a claim that was false. This was a calculated move to build excitement, only for them to later ridicule the idea and discredit Raila’s visit when it didn’t happen. The truth? Addressing the U.S. Congress is a rare privilege, even for heads of state. Only two foreign dignitaries have done so in history: in 1934 and 1948.

What matters more, however, is what Raila is actually doing in the U.S. His focus has been precise and impactful. On November 9, 2017, he spoke at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. His message? Kenya is on the brink of dictatorship, and the U.S. needs to engage more meaningfully to help resolve the crisis.

Raila highlighted how Kenya's electoral issues extend beyond one stolen election after another. He proposed a six-month, broad-based coalition government to address systemic problems and pave the way for free, fair, and credible elections. For the first time, he also acknowledged the growing secessionist movement, noting that it reflects widespread dissatisfaction among Kenyans.

His remarks resonated globally. International opinion is shifting, with more attention being paid to the challenges facing Kenya’s democracy. This is a critical win for the opposition as Jubilee faces mounting pressure from both local and global fronts.

Growing Calls for Secession

Meanwhile, the call for secession is gaining momentum in regions like the Coast and Western Kenya. Jubilee’s narrative that Raila alone is the problem is falling apart. How can secessionist sentiments in diverse regions be blamed on one man? Clearly, deeper issues are at play.

Economic Fallout

The economic impact of political unrest is undeniable. Safaricom, for instance, has lost nearly Ksh 40 billion in value since NASA called for a boycott. Distributors and agents have been hit hard, with businesses across the country feeling the strain. The world is taking note of this, too, further complicating Jubilee's attempts to paint a picture of normalcy.

Lessons from History

Raila also drew parallels with past international interventions, such as U.S. support for dictators like Mobutu Sese Seko in Congo during the Cold War. His message was clear: short-sighted foreign policies that prioritize stability over democracy often lead to long-term damage. Kenya must not follow the same path.

What Lies Ahead

As Raila’s U.S. visit continues to gain traction, expect more propaganda from Jubilee aimed at discrediting him. But the facts speak for themselves: the world is beginning to see through the lies, and the tide is turning in favor of the Kenyan people’s fight for justice and democracy.
