Raila and Uhuru's Secret Meetings: What’s Really Happening Behind the Scenes?

There has been a surge of excitement within the Azimio camp in recent days after reports of a secret meeting between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio leader Raila Odinga surfaced. This meeting comes at a time when all is not well in President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp, with some speculating that the drama within the ruling coalition is a deliberate attempt to divert attention from Azimio. However, this claim is unfounded. How can one divert attention from something that isn’t even happening? There is little action coming from Azimio at the moment, so there is no need for such distractions. The truth is, there are serious issues within Kenya Kwanza’s administration.

Chris suggests that there is a deeper reason behind the recent leaks about the Uhuru-Raila meeting. In his analysis, he explains that the political situation in Kenya is complex and evolving, driven largely by Raila’s strategic moves. While the political landscape is full of surprises, including intense international and local developments, Chris stresses that the most important thing is the frequency and significance of Raila and Uhuru’s meetings, particularly in 2023.

The meeting in Mombasa on January 6th isn’t the first of its kind, and it’s unlikely that it was the first meeting since the August 2022 elections. Presidents often require an exit strategy after leaving office, and given the persistent attacks on Uhuru and his allies, it’s clear that the former president must stay active politically to ensure a peaceful retirement. Therefore, Raila and Uhuru have been meeting regularly, though these discussions are often kept under wraps.

What makes Chris pay attention is not just the secret meeting, but the deliberate leak of information regarding it. This leak wasn’t meant for President Ruto’s camp— they are already aware of the ongoing discussions between Uhuru and Raila. The leak was targeted at Azimio supporters, who were becoming discouraged by headlines suggesting that Azimio was falling apart. By revealing the meeting, Azimio is trying to counter the narrative that the opposition is disintegrating.

By allowing this information to leak, Azimio is riding the political wave, strategically neutralizing the negative press by participating in the conversation. Just like a skilled soccer player who uses the force of an incoming ball to redirect it, Azimio is turning the tide of public opinion. They are reasserting their position and showing their supporters that they are ready to make a move.

Chris concludes by suggesting that the increasing frequency of Raila and Uhuru’s meetings signals that something significant is on the horizon. It’s not just about a few meetings; it’s about preparing for a major political shift that could change the game. Raila and Uhuru seem poised for action, and this might be the start of something much bigger.
