Tonight, we begin with a damning verdict from the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), which has accused President William Ruto's administration of fostering "lies and falsehoods." The NCCK asserts that the country is in critical condition—comparing it to being in "intensive care"—and is urging Kenyans to rise up and take control of their destiny.
As Citizen TV's Stephen Letoo reports, the church delivered a scathing rebuke, calling out the president's leadership style:
> "You are a liar. You have elevated falsehoods. You thrive on evoking fear."
These words mark an unprecedented clash between the clergy and President Ruto, signaling rising discontent over the nation's direction. The NCCK emphasized the growing confusion among Kenyans, saying:
> “Lies and falsehoods have been elevated to the point where no one knows what to believe anymore.”
The council urged Kenyans to seek truth and stand up for their rights:
> “We appeal to you, citizens of Kenya, to exercise the powers of your office—to speak up, stand up, and shape your future.”
Amid weeks of increasing tension between the church and the government, the NCCK reaffirmed its stance on speaking truth to power. The council encouraged pastors to preach boldly and deliver messages without intimidation:
> “We ask pastors to speak freely and to prophesy when God has given them a message.”
One of the church's strongest declarations came regarding the use of pulpits for political gain. The NCCK stated it will ban all politicians from addressing congregations, declaring that worship spaces will no longer be platforms for self-promotion:
> “We will not allow sacred religious practices to be used for self-glorification.”
In addition to criticizing the administration's communication and governance, the council raised concerns about the absence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). They criticized the government for its apparent lack of urgency in addressing this electoral gap, stressing its importance for the nation’s democracy.
With these bold statements, the NCCK has solidified its position as a vocal advocate for accountability and truth, challenging President Ruto's administration to restore trust and deliver on its promises.
