Kenya Anti Corruption Boss In Corrupt Love Affair With Committee Colleague

This blogger has just come across some very interesting information as a follow up to the story we did here recently on Rev Mutava Musyimi.

Based on this new information, it is now clear that Rev Musyimi will stand on a Narc Kenya ticket (or whatever party that president Kibaki finally chooses to stand with). He has the full backing of the president who sees him as a major stabilizing factor in his next administration and will definitely be a member of the cabinet. This is assuming that Kibaki wins re-election.

There is no doubt that Musyimi wields clout and is a "clean face" amongst Kibaki backers. Interestingly these days it is becoming increasingly difficult to find any non-corrupt persons close to the President.

What also emerges from this new information is that the National Anti Corruption Steering Committee under the leadership of Musyimi has done an excellent job in research and compiling of information aimed at fighting corruption. They have visited every single province in the country and have compiled reports for every single district in the nation. And yet members are not wallowing in fat allowances and salaries like the KACC that specializes in catching traffic policemen taking 50 bob bribes from matatu touts when the big fish continue to do what they have to do. Our information is that Musyimi only gets a paltry Kshs 80,000 a month as chair.

But the committee has been dogged by a few problems that has hindered its' ability to achieve even more. Top on the list is the corrupt love affair that the director Polycarp Omollo Ochillo is having with another member of the committee. The effect of this illicit love affair is that it has triggered sharp divisions that have began to emerge in the committee as the said woman has taken every opportunity to use her powerful lover to fight her own personal wars against other members of the committee.

Interestingly despite the achievements of this body which surpasses that of any other government appointed outfit in recent memory it is said that the steering committee members often complain of the slow pace of the campaign. Ochillo believes in performance contracts, which is not a bad idea except that the contracts were drawn in closed door meetings between the secretariat top officials like Ochillo and people in the Justice Ministry. The effect is that as long as the mediocre standards of the performance contracts are met, the process can continue to be deliberately slow.

One of the ways that word of this affair has gotten out is because of the numerous embarrassing incidents that have occurred, especially during the committee’s field trips which has led to a powerful clique within the commitee deciding that the man has to go. Interestingly the man could actually leave sooner than they think and on his own will because it is believed that he is going to run for parliament somewhere in Nyanza on an ODM-Kenya party ticket. Nyatike is the seat he seems to be interested in. Naturally he needs to raise money for his campaigns. Where do you think the man will get the money? Any guesses out there?

I have exposed this illicit affair here because an entity of this caliber that is currently on the forefront of fighting corruption in the country should be impeccable and clean to retain its' moral authority to advice the president on corruption issues.

Mr Omollo is a well-known personality in journalism circles and also lectures at the School of Journalism at the Nairobi University.

  1. Small wonder the "war on corruption" is going the direction of it's earstwhile partner, "war on terrorism", aka war on Islam: the boss has his hands full. Literally.
