Business across the border between Kenya and Tanzania is set to explode after Safaricom this week signed a deal that merges Mpesa transactions across the two East African countries.
The first to feel the impact of this new development will be the multitudes of small traders operating between the two countries as well as the tens of thousands of Kenyans working in Tanzania who regularly need to send cash back home to Kenya.
Those who understand the tendency of Tanzanian regulators to resist anything Kenyan for fear of being overwhelmed by its' financial and business powerhouse neighbor will understand just how major a milestone this latest development is.
